G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Snider is getting full playing time for the Pirates. Although he's hitting for a lower average his OBP is similar and slugging is a bit better. Both are unspectacular but dependable defenders. Melky supposedly has a plus arm but I don't recall a single OF assist this year. Both are slow as $h!t. I ask you - Is Melky worth 8M compared to having kept Snider at 500K? Discuss. 2013 Snider .285 wOBA, OPS .653 with 3HR, 0.1 WAR Cabrera .302 wOBA, OPS .686 with 3 HR, -0.1 WAR
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 For the record? I was against the Snider trade. But once he was gone I thought the Cabrera signing was fantastic But he hasn't lived up to expectations
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Remember how everyone was ecstatic about the Melky signing and his performance in ST? Don't you dare flipflop.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It's not even half a season and Melky has been hobbled. Fair?
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Melky was very good early on but cooled off alot since he had those legs problems. I could be wrong but i think Melky has higher potential.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Maybe Lincoln will improve if you give him another year or two, who knows.

He still has it in him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Really both guys have been underwhelming obviously. They should both be >800 OPS bats. Both have seemingly lost almost all of their extra base power. I agree that Melky probably gets better once he's past his current leg problems.

The guy continues to play on a turf and it's been 3 months now, 4 including ST. You'd think he'd recover in a few weeks but nope. I don't think even a DL stint will help. The guy is a liability in the field at the moment and I can see him getting traded in the offseason.

Lincoln looked very good in his last 2 appearances prior to being sent back to Buffalo. In fact he was filthy during that 18 inning win. He was the number's game victim because the pen was gassed and his arm was the most tired.

I got my wish but both have been terrible.

I really think that once Reyes gets it going at the plate, we should put Melky on the DL for 3-4 weeks. It is obvious he playing at 75% max right now. We would get just as good of production out of a Gose/Davis platoon, substantially better defence and baserunning. Hopefully Melky could come back recovered and play like the player we were expecting for the last two months of the season.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Ditto Sad isn't it? Though my #1 dream was probably Yu Darvish and Justin Upton Both have been playing hurt and way under expectations. Very sad. I was all over Darvish and Latos but, I have to admit BJ scared me off of JUpton.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I wouldn't say Snider is slow as s***, I thought he had reasonable speed?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 I wouldn't say Snider is slow as s***, I thought he had reasonable speed? Yeah I might be being a bit unfair there. Snider probably has average speed.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Justin >> BJ IMO BJ has a terrible attitude and it really hinders his production. Admittedly, I thought it was a family trait but, Justin is proving me wrong.

Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Snider wOBA by month (wRC+); Apr - .354 (128) May - .291 (85) Jun - .213 (31) I'd still take Travis over Melky..........
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'd still take Travis over Melky.......... I'd take Schierholtz over them both and he's available.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 League average guys for $2M are the signings that all teams should be looking for (in reference to Schierholtz ) but trading for him expecting him to continue his current pace would be a mistake.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Yeah. Justin looks like the real deal and worthy of his #1 pick status. You haven't looked recently have you? Last 28 days BJ .231/.341/.435 Justin .200/.305/.256 They are starting to sit BJ against certain righties so his OPS is looking better because of it. Justin has been horrible all month though.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Schierholtz doesn't look impressive to me...
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'd still take Travis over Melky.......... You're crazy.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You're crazy. All you can see is his PED-inflated numbers.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Or you realize Snider is AAAA filler.
