Hard for me to judge since I've grown up in a place that is so accepting to gays. It's hard to picture a society that treats people different.

This is why there isn't, for instance, a straight pride month.

Posted

One would think that a scoreboard message in recognition of Pride Day would be enough. Maybe have a prominent member of their gay community throw out the first pitch.

Flags in the ballpark should be for the two host nations of MLB. Additional flags should be limited to team flags and flags of the host State and city. This descision is a poor one. Is it now ok to fly a Shriners Flag on a Shriners Day? How a about a Republican Party Flag on Republicans Night? How about a Conservative Party of Canada Flag? An NAACP Flag on Martin Luther King Day during Spring Training? Slippery slope!

Posted
End of the day, the Pride Flag is representative not of Gay Pride but is in actuality a political flag that represents a civil rights group. It seems that people either don't realize that or have forgotten.

The comments in that Yahoo article make me want to vomit.

Look at this comment that wasn't immediately torched in any way. People support this view:

"why is it suddenly so cool and trendy to support all things homosexual? Sorry to say, but it is a sin. Are we gonna have adultery night, murderers night, wife-beaters night, etc?

I will still attend their games, but I am against it."

The real question is: Who geefs a fock?

It's been used for both actually:

The rainbow flag, sometimes LGBT pride flag or gay pride flag, is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements in use since the 1970s. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride in LGBT rights marches. It originated in California, but is now used worldwide.

People care. Call the Blue Jays tomorrow and ask how many complaint calls they've received over the years due to the Canadian Flag not being properly displayed higher than the US flag.

This is why you never look into the bowels of hell... erm, I mean the Yahoo comments section.

Yes but remains a political civil rights flag. Sorry, it's just not appropriate for any group and I mean any group to have their flag displayed at a MLB game. There has to be a better way to show community support for Pride Day.

Why on earth would you go into a Yahoo article comments section?

People complain over this?

Oh God yes, especially seniors.

Wow lol. That's kinda funny, picturing an angry senior on the phone with some poor intern yelling about this.

With all the gay guys coming out of the closet these days, it is not a good time Dirk to tell Mike how much you want to ...........him. It was Sid and some other fellow, (just his voice sounded like yours), these guys put on a ridiculous bs show, kidding each other for an hour as if there was NO listeners on the radio. THATS BAD RADIO!

I'll probably get flamed but honestly in my opinion being gay is a disease. Just like cancer is up over 2000% and diabetes is up over 5000% since the 1960s so too, is people becoming gay. I'm sure I'll get called a nutbar, but it seems like something or someone out there wants us dead, and not reproducing. What better way to stop people from reproducing than being gay?

Honestly would you support the gay agenda still if you found out that it wasn't people turning gay by choice, but rather something else?

The world is overpopulated so that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Oh BTW, you're a f***ing retard.

Time to get educated about epigenetics.

I'm not trolling. I'm also not denying that some people can be born gay. I'm sure it happens. Just like back in the 1950s when 1/2000 people got cancer, there still is that 1. But the fact is that it is off the chain now, just like cancer and diabetes. There can still be other causes.

Stop being such a sheep.

Do you believe government is just great people? governments have killed more than 260 million people in just the last one hundred years.

Another thing you need to account for is this: Is the number of LGBT people relative to the general population rising, or is there a rise in LGBT folks willing to come out of the closet now that this is a more favorable environment than it was, say, 40 years ago? My bets are on the latter.

So you're saying that this rise in the LGBT community is the result of this massive government conspiracy? Yeah...

1 in 2000 people in the 1950s got cancer? Lmao!

1) Slippery slope arguments are terrible because there is no reason you have to continue going down the slope

2) The number of people in Seattle who are going to refuse to go to Seattle Mariner games because of this is statistically irrelevant (and even if it were relevant, it would be a dying demographic). The number of people for which this gesture is going to make a very good impression is very large. It is a business decision to try to reach out in a positive way to fans for a team that has sucked for quite a long time now.

Gay people can actually reproduce you know.

Shhh, the concept of artificial insemination will blow his mind away.

I don't think the number of fans it costs them or doesn't cost them matters. Its about protocol. Flags at a MLB park should never be representative of any group, lobby, political party, charity or organization.

A special patch-- sure. A scoreboard recognition-- sure. Even when the NFL puts the pink bows around their fields and have players and officials wear pink, there is still no Cancer Society Flags or a flag with the Breast Cancer logo on them. Banners or other forms of recognition are very different than flying a flag.

Your'e using statistics that show diagnosis of cancer not cancer rates.

You think hundreds of years ago common folk had autopsies, or even in the early 20th century? You think all these different types of cancer were commonly known? The fact of the matter is cancer has always been with us and you need to refrain from pulling statistics out of you ass. Everything you type stems from ignorance and couldn't be further from the truth. Put the f***ing keyboard down man

I really doubt anyone is going to care about the difference between a flag and a patch. If the Seattle Mariners were putting the Palestinian State flag up, or on the scoreboard, or whatever else there would be outrage either way.
