I don't understand why they didn't do this in the first place, he sure isn't getting innings right now.

I don't see that happening unless we send him to Buffalo...

Do we have the money to take on Peavy?

Probably, he'd likely replace Johnson for 2014

14.5M per year

Has there been any talk of moving McGowan back into the rotation? When he made his last comeback, they did that, stating the more consistent work was better for him.

Yes but they want him stretching out into a long man before even considering it. Commanding his breaking pitches has to come first and he'll get several more short outings to improve that command and feel before building up his stamina.

Ahh... I had long departed that forum by the time that happened :P

Ahh, I see

Well the whole Miami deal was discussed at some length in there

It's still a great read to this day actually, if you have time :)

Lee or bust

Lee to Texas

Garza to Baltimore

Feldman to Pittsburgh

Norris to Boston

Peavy to Toronto

But who really knows right?

I can solve this mystery for everyone. The Cuban kid Gonzalez is pitching in Tijuana tonight. AA is heading to the game.

He's supposed to be MLB ready, right? Could he be the solution to Rogers' innings limit?

Who can find a scouting report on this guy? How old is he? MLB ready?

There should be something in the prospect forum about him, and if you search the main forum, Ang posted a thread about him.

Dirk Hayhurst is having a live chat right now. I asked him what the likelihood we upgrade C if we were buyers is, and asked about McCann. He said he'd rather a Ruiz for JPA + Oliver deal. Who thinks that'd go through? I'm not sure.

Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez and his array of stuff that wowed scouts at a showcase this week in Mexico. The 26-year-old Cuban defector's fastball sat at 94-95 mph, topping out at 97, according to one official in attendance. The right-hander also threw a 91-mph cutter and mixed in a curveball, changeup and splitter for good measure, striking out six in three innings against Ensenada in a Mexican League game.

Some excerpts from Dirk Hayhurst's chat today:

Dirk, do you think AA should add pitching depth before the deadline?

by BDC 1:01 PM

@BDC: AA could always add pitching depth. But, at what cost? He doesn't have a lot of prospects to swap for that depth. And, this is all a bit premature since the Jays don't know if they're going to be Buyers or Sellers at this point considering their record and last place stake.

by Dirk Hayhurst 1:02 PM

If the Jays are sellers, who will likely be moved? Johnson seems obvious, but who else? I can't foresee a fire sale.

by BDC 1:16 PM

@BDC: Johnson, because his contract is so large with Free Agency looming, yes, but also Oliver and possibly Gose (as a sweetener for a deal).

by Dirk Hayhurst 1:18 PM

What do you think is the Jays biggest need, or what position they could use the biggest upgrade when the trade deadline approaches.

by Dirk the Jerk 1:20 PM

@DirktheJerk: Some power from their 3rd base and 2nd base positions would be great. Also, a nice controllable and HEALTHY starting pitcher couldn't hurt, ever.

by Dirk Hayhurst 1:21 PM

Hey Dirk, assuming the Blue Jays are in fact buyers (which may be a rather large assumption), what are the chances we upgrade C? AA seems content at C but a .298 wOBA from Arencibia is unacceptable with sub-par defense at this point, and there are some options like Brian McCann, who may be rendered expendable by Gattis and Bethancourt, out there.

by GordieDougie 1:23 PM

@GordieDougie: McCann? Nah, I'd rather have Ruiz. I'd swap JPA and Oliver for Ruiz...

Hey Dirk, First, I'm a big fan of yours, and how you deal with trolls on twitter.

Second, what are your thoughts about the rumours or thoughts about AA going after Cliff Lee. Is there anyone we have that would be a fair offer? Do you think we should get him? Thanks!

by Fids 1:30 PM

@Fids: There are no rumors of this. Ruben Amaro has be adamant he doesn't want to deal him. The Jays would have to give up to much for him. I don't think it happens, nor have I heard anything about it happening.... now watch, it TOTALY WILL because I downplayed it... A better trade might be Uttely and Young and Ruiz—all of which represent possible upgrades to positions the Jays have needs at.

by Dirk Hayhurst 1:32 PM

Will AA be looking to add a starter and do you think the Jays have the requisite assets to do so?

by maximus tacitus 1:34 PM

@maximustacitus: Depends on the starter. Edison Volquez I've heard things about. Garza is a possibility. Jays could go for Nolasco—just to get a complete set of Marlins. Hard to say. It'sa all speculative.

I honestly don't think Michael Young is even better than DeRosa.

On that note, maybe we can sign him for cheap next year to be the new DeRosa, if there must be a vetrin leader guy on the roster. But don't trade for him.

I vote that 2014 be the first season since 2011 free of a replacement level corpse.

As long as AA is in charge, there are going to be certain aspects of this team that we as fans are just going to have to accept :(
