JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I hope Dickey shows up as the ace he can be. Worried a little with Martin when someone is on base. He had some passed balls with him. We need our offense to show up early and give us a 3+ run lead, then I won't be all stressed out. Go Jays Go!
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Using Dickey over price is Fire worthy so dumb. This Org keeps shooting themself in the foot, this is why we got Price, who just had 11 days rest. From letting the boys party for two days after clinching a playoff birth and celebrating as if they won the World Series, with the Jays showing up to the Leafs home opener drinking in a private booth and giggling on tv the NIGHT BEFORE THE FIRST PLAYOFF GAME IN 22 YEARS!, this team was never ready for the post season mentally. I went to games 1 and 2 and everyone except Goins was trying to hit a 900 foot homerun to be the hero was the worst. If they can play like they did last night and not be a selfish team then I think this will come back to Toronto for game 5.
fireballW Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 If Dickey is cruising do you still yank him after 4/5 just cause? Of course not. We already lost a game because our manager took out our starter early when he looked near unhittable. If Dickey is cruising you let him go. Price is not used to pitching out of the bullpen and although our relievers are really quite good, you never know what you might get on any given day when a guy walks out to the mound. If Dickey is pitching well then he shouldn't come out until you see real warning signs (not a bloopers single). Obvious exceptions if it is like the bottom of the 8th and Fielder comes up with a runner on after going 2 for 2 against Dickey already that night, or similar situations. In general Gibbons has had hooked way too many SP early this year when the other team was struggling and the pitcher was showing no real signs of slowing down.
fireballW Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Yes, statistically no matter how good the pitcher the third time through the order they are far more likely to get hit hard. Going from Dickey's knuckleball to Price's 96 mph on the corners could be a lethal combination and I'm very much looking forward for this to happen. I love Stroman, but if Dickey is going strong and the team is looking good, it'd be stupid to waste Price for those couple innings. Plus for whatever reason, sp coming out of the pen when they aren't used to it can really seem to backfire. If at all possible, save Price for game 5. Don't pretend pitching in an elimination game in a playoff series is the same as a side session either.

Pretty sure grown adults can stay up until 11 or 12 and still wake up the next day ready to play baseball.

Not to mention I am convinced there is a Dickey effect on Martin too. Every time he catches Dickey he really looks uncomfortable when the relief pitcher comes in. Like really, really bad.

I don't know about you but when I was in College I didn't stay up late and have drinks a night before an exam...... These guys are supposed to be professionals and they were acting as if they had a red carpet rolled out for them all the way to the World Series before they even threw a pitch.
Nafro Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 R.A. Dickey throws a gem today! Oldest pitcher in history to make his postseason debut. Win this won for pops today R.A. He's most certainly cheering for you!
93 Jays Verified Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Gotta have a quality start out of Dickey of course. If there was ever a time for it, it's obviously now. More noticeable to me though is that this team start coming through in critical situations like Tulo did yesterday. They're averaging only 4 runs per game right now, which I know isn't bad come playoff time. But they really need a few games where they capitalize on their scoring situations and play solid, team based, fundamental baseball. Don't need a homerun with a runner on third and less than 2 out, so stop swinging for the fences. Grounding into 4 double plays yesterday against a pitcher who is struggling is a recipe for disaster. Really am thankful that kids like Osuna, Sanchez and Stroman are getting playoff experience. It can only help us down the road. Hopefully a combination of Dickey, Price and whoever else, if needed, get it done today. I still think Toronto win this series
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Dickey, BBBB and Longstick goes Boom tonight!!! Cumtogether.... EH !!!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 It would be nice if Dickey stepped up, but realistically he'll be yanked immediately if he gives up a few early runs.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 If the Dickster throws a clunker (5 runs in 2 innings), I wonder if ppl will sour on him so much that they don't want to pick up that year.

Let's hope that doesn't happen but it won't factor into the FO decision regardless of what some on here may think. Personally, whatever he does today won't change my view. Go RA and Jays!
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Lets hope Dickey goes 5 giving 2 runs or less. Then Price for an inning, Stroman for an inning, Loup if there are left handers in the 8th and Hendriks/Osuna to close it

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Who the hell starts game 5 then if you're going use Price and Stroman today? They're basically our Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Trickey Dickey's got this!!! that is all..... Go Jays Go !!!
