Did Rogers become the best starter on this team? He has been such a breath of fresh air ever since filling in. Is he this good or does everyone else just suck?

Take a guess..

I am pleasantly surprised with his performance thus far, I don't EXPECT it to continue, but would be thrilled if it did. I hope they keep him in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

Answer: He's probably not THIS good, and everyone else HAS sucked.

Because none of our starters have pitched even reasonably well lol. Well, maybe MB.

We usually do get lucky with these random plug in starters... It's always the guys that are supposed to be good, that suck ass, that ruin our season

Hahaha yep. Rogers, Ortiz far exceeded expectations. Even Jenkins.

It's been Romero Dickey and Johnson the giant disappointments

I was mad about Jenkins demotion... I doubt Wang does more, seems more like an aesthetic move.

Yeah... Jenkins did nothing to deserve that demotion... AA is very weird with his roster moves

The depth was terrible though. Better to have Wang in the rotation and Jenkins as depth than to have Jenkins in the rotation and some shitbag like McGuire behind him.

They both suck ass though. Only good thing about Wang is that they can treat him like dirt and have him throw 140 s***** pitches every night, saving the bullpen (hopefully). God knows they need it with this sorry rotation.

This. I actually think Wang could be a pretty decent #5 though.

Leave it to Esmil to throw 7.0 innings of 5.06 FIP baseball against Texas and look good doing it.

He's gonna get the groundballs. The FIP isn't gonna be pretty, but the amount of plays that the Blue Jays can make behind him could be the difference between a low 4's ERA, or something north of 6.

Lawrie would help immensely. Reyes marginally.

That's baseball - fringy player can find success over short periods. He'll start gas-canning games eventually.

And sometimes fringy players become a long term success.. Bautista, Scutaro, EE... To name a few. That too is baseball.

Well Reyes helps by getting Izturis or Kawasaki to 2B and Bonifacio off the field entirely

I've been pretty content with Boni of late. Which means by the third inning tomorrow he will have walked off a f***ing cliff.

He has gotten better as the year goes on

Defensively anyway. Still can't hit worth a lick.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wang and Rogers become our best 2 pitchers over the next little while..

How sad that is considering we once were suppose to have the best rotation in baseball

He hits like my ex, all windup no punch. f***, I wouldn't trust him to get me out of bed if the house was one fire.

I have to disagree with you...

Almost everyone underestimates the unpredictability of baseball... This happens all the time guys come from nowhere at about this age and are HUGE successes.

As soon as the need for Ramon Ortiz arose I pointed out that the best way to find another starter is to sort through the younger junk we have and find a diamond. I suggested Loup or Cecil... but it turned out (so far) Rogers is the guy.

My philosaphy is that you don't overthink anything or try to predict the future. Just take the recent past and see what comes.

Small sample sizes will work themselves out quickly. Two weeks from now if Rogers gets bombed a couple of times his numbers will look different. Deal with it then. Never a good thing to try to predict failure. Better to ride success and try to keep it going.

Sometimes. There's no reason to expect that though. Especially when the player in question has a 4.51 xFIP.

Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and we certainly are due for some after all the injuries we have had . Rogers has improved every time out there and is still young He may just be able to figure it out . Changing speeds and fastball command can make a huge difference . He has decent enough stuff to start . Wang could also be a good pickup . I expect him to get better and if the defense doesn't s*** the bed behind him we could get some quality starts out of the guy .

It's not like we should expect top of rotation guys to come in here when they are our 11 or 12th choice .

Might Wang now be the best starter on this team?

What a crazy season

Look, I recognize either one could easily blow up at any time, but if one could stick and the other hang on until Morrow is back, I'm thrilled.

Buehrle is right now. If JJ can get going things are going to start getting real interesting, especially with Morrow and Happ working towards coming back. This team may actually have some quality depth in the rotation. Throw in Hutch in a couple months and if this team can slug their way to a winning record, they may be able to hold things down until the rotation has stabilized.

Yeah you're right of course. Buerhle has been phenomenal this past month.

A lot of board members were saying it would be a top 5 rotation if not the best before the season started.

It's really hard to pass judgement when Dickey has been pitching through an injury and Johnson, Morrow, and Happ missing significant time.
