I looked around and couldn't find a trade thread so I figured I'd create one. We can consolidate any speculation or rumors here to avoid clutter.

 

A couple of Blue Jays related tidbits from today's Baseball Prospectus chat.

Kaya (Toronto): If the Blue Jays traded Josh Johnson at the deadline what could they realistically expect in return? Would Rougned Odor from Texas or Kolten Wong from St. Louis be feasible?

 

Jason Cole: I think it'll all depend on how Johnson performs and, perhaps mostly importantly, how the stuff looks leading up to the deadline. I think there are a number of teams curious about the direction Johnson will go over the next month. But those types of prospects would be at the very least what Toronto could probably get.

 

Trent (El Paso): One sports writer was ruminating over the possibility of a trade of Jurickson Profar for a power hitting outfielder like Jose Bautista. He's in the prime of his career and has a very team friendly contract. Is this even a viable trade possibility. Who loses that trade if it ever happened?

 

Jason Cole: I don't think the Rangers will trade Profar for an outfielder who turns 33 in October. Bautista is currently in his prime, but he's likely to be exiting it soon. If the Rangers unload Profar, it's going to be for a younger player with his best years ahead of him – like a Giancarlo Stanton.

Dumb question to ask about JJ considering he's been hurt.

 

90% likely he is just OK the rest of the year, gets a QO, declines and walks, and we get a good draft pick

 

10% likely Jays are out of contention at the trade deadline, and JJ has been good enough that another team will trade us something better than a good draft pick. Saves $ too potentially if you do that for cheaper younger players.

+1, I highly doubt JJ would get us more than a semi-solid prospect.

 

 

 

I think this is the time to be looking for another Rasmus-like deal. A young, controllable player who's maybe fallen out of favor with his team. Maybe Gallardo or Arrieta. Maybe Hosmer. I'd wonder if the Cubs would deal Castro but I'd assume not. It'd be cool seeing if we could get Hedges from SD somehow.

*cough*Pineda for Montero*cough* haha. It doesn't happen often I don't think, but imo it should happen more.

 

Stanton for Profar straight up is ridiculous but I don't think he was insinuating it'd be straight up. It'd obviously involve Olt, Perez, Sardinas, Alfaro, all those guys.

if he's healthy and pitching well for the next month he's going to draw a top 100 prospect at the very least. Why take a pick, pay that pick a Million+ (plus the development, all while paying JJ another $5-7M. It's not a bright decision unless the deals aren't there. if a trade for a young MLB ready arm is there you jump at it. I still think the Pirates will jump at him if James McDonald isn't ready. They do have Burnett as a Free Agent at the end of the year...so maybe they wouldn't deal for another FA pitcher but they have a shitload of young arms (Cole, Taillon, Kingham, Wilson, Locke, Heredia, McPherson) at least 4 of those are ready. Rotation next year should have McDonald, Liriano and Wandy in it so they have room to make for a push for JJ.

I don't understand why that guy hasn't been banned. All he does is try to annoy others and stir the pot. The iggy list combined with Stylish is so nice - only time I ever see word of him is when someone quotes something stupid he says or he creates a new thread.

I know they have a bunch of B-rated SP but I only read capsules on them. Dont know much about them but I think JJ would fit nice there.

Let's trade Zaun for a decent analyst.. he's an idiot. However, I can see Johnson, Izturis and Rajai(and Darren Oliver) being traded. Buehrle is unmovable due to his contract, Lawrie's still young, and who knows on JPA.
