Sweet! I thought the Jays weren't even gonna get Brentz or Tellez let alone both for under $2MM!

I don't mind the haul for this draft and getting next year's pick. If the Jays go on a significant losing

streak right after the AS break, I don't mind them just absolutely TANKING for the rest of the season

in order to get a better draft pick next year.

2 possibly 3 first round picks next year? Sounds great

3 first round picks in next years draft = bananas. Power arms for days next year, man.

I they offered what's left to Tewes or Tanner Cable? There looks to be at least 500-600k left over.

They should distribute the remaining 500k to the fans for screwing up the whole organization.

kinda a bad sign. I really like how the forums are now organized, but it seems like it's gonna take a while

for everyone to adjust and i feel like most just won't.

At least we got a few people to follow from this draft. Jansen, Tellez, Brentz, maybe Hollon and Smith. And of course Kalfus

I found this quote interesting

Clubs need to have offered 40% of slot in order to get a compensation pick the next year. Interestingly, that’s exactly the percentage of slot second rounder Clinton Hollon signed for.

I wonder if they offered Hollon the absolute bare minimum thinking either they'll save money or get the 48 pick next year. I wonder if they did not expect Hollon to sign for so low given his commitment to Kentucky.

I'm going to finally merge this in to the draft forum in the prospects section.

Need to consolidate the discussion now that the signings and non-signings are all official.

That is very interesting. HOllon must have really wanted to go pro. Jays probably gave him 40% of the slot

as a take it or leave it offer after finding out about his arm troubles.

Hmm, if that's the case then maybe they really are seriously punting the first round pick to next year. The fact that they did not give a specific reason for not signing Bickford might support this.

Thought I'd repost again to see who we "could" get next year at pick #11. At this early stage I want Tyler Kolek or Michael Cederoth, though they're ranked out of our range at present.

Here are the current top 20 prospects for next years draft IMO. There are a ton of power arms. The guys from PG said they already had over 40 guys throwing 90+ at the PG national.

1) Carlos Rodon, LHP, NCAA: Power lefty with wide stout frame. Two 60-65 pitches. FB 94-96, into upper 90s, SL is an out pitch right now.

2) Tyler Beede, RHP, NCAA: Tall athletic frame. FB 91-94, up to 97. CU at 79-82 and hard SL both flash plus. Needs to improve command.

3) Trea Turner, SS, NCAA: Explosive speed. Good approach at the plate. Top of the order hitter, who should hit for average and get on base.

4) Alex Jackson, C/OF, HS: Plus athlete, plus-plus power, plus-plus arm, above average speed and bat (ridiculous 1.73 pop to second base).

5) Michael Cederoth, RHP, NCAA: Tall right hander. Electric stuff. FB 92-98mph, as high as 100mph. Both SL and CB show flashes of being plus.

6) Tyler Kolek, RHP, HS: Ideal pitchers frame. Lots of present stuff. Fastball 92-96, up to 100, potential plus slider. Compared to Jonathan Gray.

7) Jeff Hoffman, RHP, NCAA: Big lanky athlete. FB up to 96 almost. Above average curveball and change. Best pitcher on Cape this summer.

8) Jacob Gatewood, 3B/RHP, HS: Big time power projection with plus-plus arm strength. Plays shortstop but will have to move to third.

9) Touki Toussaint, RHP, HS: Long slender frame, loose arm. Fastball 91-94 with life. Has been up to 98 with potential plus curve.

10) Michael Gettys, OF/RHP, HS: Low to mid 90s from the mound, sharp SL, up to 98 from outfield, above average speed-power combo.

11) Nick Gordon, RHP/SS, HS: Defensive wiz, with projectable lefty bat. Better on mound. Easy 89-92 FB with plus-plus CB. Good bloodlines.

12) Grant Holmes, RHP, HS: Very good present stuff. FB 92-96 with advanced command. Plus hammer CB.

13) Dylan Cease, RHP, HS: Easy FB 92-94, up to 97, good spin on CB, feel for CU.

14) Aaron Nola, RHP, NCAA: Low 90s FB. Pinpoint command and control. Plus-plus CU, nice SL.

15) Michael Kopech, RHP, HS: Big and projectable. FB, 92-94, sharp BB.

16) Kyle Schwarber, C/OF, NCAA: One of the top power bats in the NCAA. Hits to all fields. Good approach at the plate. Bat will play anywhere.

17) Kel Johnson, OF, HS: One of the best power bats in high school. Average athlete with solid arm strength.

18) Sean Newcomb, LHP, NCAA: Big lefty with power stuff. FB low to mid-90s, peak of 97. Big breaking 12-6 CB is an out pitch.

19) Trenton Kemp, OF, HS: 5-tool player with plus speed and athleticism, plus bat speed and raw power. Shows feel for hitting.

20) Brandon Finnegan, LHP, NCAA: Small lefty. FB sits 93-95, up to 98. Flashes two above average pitches in his 78-82mph SL and his 82mph CU.

You might as remove all the position players.

I hope we take a college pitcher.

It's considered a week college class compared to HS, but there are some intriguing arms like Nola and Hoffman who could be there. Newcomb's profile reminds me of David Purcey for some reason, which makes me weary.

I'm going to save that list I think.... will be interesting if even 10 of those guys goes top 20.

Tyler Beede, RHP, NCAA: Tall athletic frame. FB 91-94, up to 97. CU at 79-82 and hard SL both flash plus.

Sounds like a prospect the Jays FO would adore.

But seriously, anyone know if Beede already gave the green light to the Jays to draft him again?

My understanding is that since he was drafted by the jays and didn’t sign, Jays now have to get

his permission before being able to draft him again.

If Beede is there at #11, do the jays take him if they have his permission? lol

This would be nice too. I wonder if he'll get back into 1st round consideration or fall to the comp round. I wouldn't mind taking him with our actual 2014 pick, even though he's not ranked in that range currently.

We didn't waste any yet. 500-600 still left for undrafted high school free agents

Ummm... even though they can still use the pool towards those players, isn't the deadline now over for them as well?

He would have to sign the waiver form prior to next year's draft.

If he did slip to us at 11 I would be conflicted haha. We've spent the last 2 years hating on him.

Kolek would be awesome if we could get him.
