fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Most of them were high risk/high reward picks and mostly high school players. can we stop with this s***? Why can't we draft more Stromans? Every pitcher is from High School, and they aren't panning out!

mitchf Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Maybe he has a lack of cooking skill or he's vegetarian or something? Damn fat greeks Even though this is probably the most likely reason, I wouldn't rule out Alex thinking Bickford doesn't have a spot on the depth chart.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Maybe they know they need more money to sign the other guys. They've signed at least a couple of the others at well below slot value
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Even though this is probably the most likely reason, I wouldn't rule out Alex thinking Bickford doesn't have a spot on the depth chart. Then why the f*** didn't they draft a position player?!?!?!
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Once all our minor leaguer's go on Velocity Program, the workout routine invented by Jamie Evans. Our pitchers will be throwing 95 mph and will reduced our injuries
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Not about money means that Bickford doesn't want to sign with the Jays? If so, that is an AA failure, you need to know these things ahead of the draft AA probably too busy pigging out to do his due diligence
mitchf Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Then why the f*** didn't they draft a position player?!?!?! That's simply too much to ask for when discussing the Blue Jays. We prefer to draft pitchers, let them walk unsigned and play the "what if?" game.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 2 top 15 2014 draft>>>>>> Bickford and top 15 next year

mitchf Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 2 top 15 2014 draft>>>>>> Bickford and top 15 next year I'm most excited about the top 5 pick we get the following year.
mitchf Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 We will have so many Aces in our system The key term is "in our system". We'll blow their arms out by the time they're 25.
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Like Deck McGuire you mean? Still stings to think the Jays passed on Chris Sale to pick McGuire. I remember following the draft thread that year, and those who seemed knowledgable about prospects were screaming for AA to pick Sale.

I remember following the draft thread that year, and those who seemed knowledgable about prospects were screaming for AA to pick Sale. Some were saying Chris Sale but some were also saying Josh Sale. It's hindsight 20/20
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 The key term is "in our system". We'll blow their arms out by the time they're 25. This is AA's fourth draft. He's developed zero players for the team at all, let alone any aces. The velocity system work out will help with that and they were mostly highschool players.

Yes but who knows, maybe Sale made it clear he didn't want to go to the Jays
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Drafted Kalfus, draft = success Couldn't have said it better myself. The King will be with the Jays soon
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Yes but who knows, maybe Sale made it clear he didn't want to go to the Jays Very possible, of course, but it is important to keep the scouting department accountable.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I f***ing love this, especially if they get tellez and brentz. A lot of guys were blowing smoke up Bickford's ass. Not a true first round talent in a weak draft demands 4 f***ing million dollars. f*** him and get three first round picks next year.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Yeah, the whole point of popping Bickford so early should be to open up a pool of money to sign a couple of guys like Brentz and Tellez. As if something like ~2 million isn't enough for Phil f***ing Bickford, who really wasn't even on the radar at #10. He was a kid that most thought would fall to the supplemental round. Kind of excited for the two top 10 picks in next year's draft though.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I'm most excited about the top 5 pick we get the following year. Booooooooo We're not tanking yet
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I wanted Bickford signed, but only under slot or maybe at slot. We'll have to wait till next year to see if this is made up for by getting a better talent. I thought this was a very important draft given how much talent was traded away, but in reality all drafts are important. If they can get Brentz, Tellez and another guy, it would lessen the blow.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 1 first round pick for this 1 first round pick (hopefully, depends who signs him) for JJ leaving Deep talented draft next year I guess I can live with this
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Booooooooo We're not tanking yet The Jays don't tank and they don't crawl. They are the doggy-paddlers of baseball.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Like Deck McGuire you mean? Really now? Out of all our drafted pitchers under AA, Stroman seems the most polished and the most ready. McGuire was a bad pick in general, we passed on Chris Sale in that draft! Even though this is probably the most likely reason, I wouldn't rule out Alex thinking Bickford doesn't have a spot on the depth chart. I don't have complete memory of the draft, but, was there no good bats that we could have picked 10th overall?
IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 The guys AA has hired then. The Jays haven't developed anyone under AA. This is baseball not hockey, AA has only been in since 2009. High schoolers probably take 4-6 years before they crack the bigs.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 This is AA's fourth draft. He's developed zero players for the team at all, let alone any aces. Players take time to develop. This isn't the NHL or NBA. From 2010, only 8 of the top 50 picks (first round) have appeared in the majors so far (and two of those were fairly brief). From 2011, only 5 of the top 60 picks (first round) have appeared, and only 2 (Rendon and Fernandez) have done anything noteworthy. From 2012, only 2 of the top 60 picks (first round) have appeared (Wacha and Gausman).
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I don't have complete memory of the draft, but, was there no good bats that we could have picked 10th overall? I think AA said he really wanted a bat, but the ones he wanted went before we picked. He didn't like what was available at pick 10, so went with a pitcher.

McGuire was a bad pick in general, we passed on Chris Sale in that draft! You might be too young to remember, but back in the Ricciardi era the Jays were notorious for drafting 'safe' college pitchers over higher risk high schooler's..... to much complaint from baseball forum geeks Syndergaard looks to be the best pitcher drafted by the Jays in the past decade
Arjun Nimmala New Hampshire Fisher Cats - AA SS The Jays have promoted the 20-year-old shortstop to Double-A New Hampshire! He hit .241/.362/.483 (.845) in his 23-game return to Vancouver. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
