Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Huge news for a potential Top 2 pick in the upcoming draft. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/397983/jonathan-gray-tests-positive-for-adderall Does this affect his eligibility? He will almost certainly fall from the Top 3 now.

He will almost certainly fall from the Top 3 now. He's not a union member so there will be no suspension. The NCAA didn't administer the test so it doesn't effect him there either (he has been tested there). He does not have a TUE but it's unknown if he can apply for one as a professional. Overall it shouldn't affect anything with his status.

He will almost certainly fall from the Top 3 now. Already discussed in the draft thread. MLB can't suspend him but he will be put through a more rigorous drug testing program than the rest of the class in the future. Apparently the test results aren't shared with the NCAA and they can't suspend him either. I still can't see him falling out of the Top 3 and fully expect him to be taken by HOU 1-1. The talk is Houston wants a true #1 talent while maintaining some of their draft budget to go over slot in later rounds. The failed drug test allows them to snag Gray at a possible discount and get the elite talent they want.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 How hard would be to get a doctor to diagnose him as ADHD right now and apply for the TUE moving forward?
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I appreciate baseball trying to clean up the game. But Adderall wouldn't make you a better baseball player. Wrong.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 How hard would be to get a doctor to diagnose him as ADHD right now and apply for the TUE moving forward? For a normal person like you and me very easy. I'm not sure of the requirements for a TUE. Can any doctor prescribe the Adderall or does it have to be an MLB doctor. It would be much easier to get from the former rather then the later.
admin Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 How hard would be to get a doctor to diagnose him as ADHD right now and apply for the TUE moving forward? Exactly what I was thinking. My guess is it has a short half life as well, I wouldn't think it would be in his system that long. Probably took it day of the test. I appreciate baseball trying to clean up the game. But Adderall wouldn't make you a better baseball player. I take things in my daily life that would test positive in major league baseball. I'm a very health conscious person and find this ridiculous. My guess is it would increase your focus and concentration, thus giving a mental edge. Since baseball is a lot, if not majority mental, it would probably give a pretty good advantage.
admin Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 That's what it says it does but that has never been proven. Well there are so many stupid drugs that are banned, I'm sure one that might improve focus and concentration would be banned. Like why is marijuana banned? What would be the physical edge of that? Relaxing you maybe? I don't know.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 only player I know for sure is Andres Torres as he has talked about his ADHD. The list of TUE's are not released or else everyone would know who is the one player who has the Hypogonadism TUE.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Doesn't Morrow have ADHD? Or am I thinking of McGowan, I know they're both diabetic but was sure one of them was diagnosed with ADHD. I can't find anything on either.
