Colby is great in CF, and I'm pretty sure Gose has a better arm anyway... I'd do Colby CF, Gose RF (if that was the option...)

I would do Gose CF, Colby LF and Melky RF

+1

More balls hit to left for Rasmus to use his range on, with less need for a better arm. And less balls hit to right for Melky to play, but when they are his arm is better suited in right than Rasmus.

And Gose in CF, just makes too much sense.

Or they can deal Melky at the deadline and promote Sierra.

Well, that would be a giving up move, so maybe...

But frankly, Melky is a statue, and I haven't really seen any examples of him having a good arm... Gose is speedy and has a great arm, but Colby reads the ball of the bat so well that he's rarely, if ever, breaking wrong on a ball...

2B Lawrie

3B Bautista

CF Gose

RF Colby

Needs to happen, and I vaguely remember that Bautista said something about his back being unrelated to 3B.

I'm still all for trying this

There's no harm it it

Guys, in 2011:

3B = 0.309 wOBA

2B = 0.307 wOBA

I'm far too lazy to check if this is still the case, but it seems as though his bat may not play any better at 2B.

I'm quickly becoming your wOBA bitch

2B = 0.320 wOBA, 100 wRC+

3B = 0.328 wOBA, 106 wRC+

So his bat would profile a fair bit better at 2B.

Knowing the Jays and their ridiculous love of the long ball, they're probably thinking of giving Schimpf a shot at third base.

Who cares if he's hitting .220, he hits homerunz

I don't think we are close enough to a fit with the Padres to land Headley. Byrnes said he has no intention of trading him this year but admitted that the Pirates made a very spirited effort to land him. It's going to take 3 prospects to land him this year, maybe down to two by the off season. Without Lawrie heading back there is zero chance the deal could be done without Sanchez and we'd still have to add to that. I'd love to know what the Pirates "spirited effort" was.

This was the quote

Byrnes conceded that many teams have made an attempt to acquire Headley over the past year, with Heyman noting that the Pirates made "an especially spirited" effort. Heyman also adds that the Indians, Diamondbacks and and Dodgers tried to a lesser extent and came up short. Byrnes added that since those trade efforts took place, the Padres have only come to value Headley even more.

I wonder what we'd have to give up. Probably one of Sanchez or Gose, probably Osuna, etc.

Osuna is such a huge fit for them being a Mexican. I was thinking that they wouldn't need a CF with Maybin locked up until 2017 but I suppose they might not be depending on them. I still seriously doubt we'd be pursuing Headley but it's the kind of stupid thing that AA might do.

Their OF depth ain't great and Maybin's not incredible or anything.

I could see a Gose + Osuna + Stilson trade being AA's final trade

With so many teams being interested I just can't see that being enough. And with the Padres admitted $75M max, they just can't afford to be paying someone $20M over 3 years and not play him...even if that's small in baseball terms.

If he pays more than that he should be fired on the spot lol.

And it's not like their OF is full. Will Venable and Carlos Quentein (sp?) aren't exactly stars lol.

I wonder if the Rays would trade Zobrist? He has a 7M and 7.5M team option the next two years, which might be a bit pricey for them (especially with Price and Longoria getting raises). If they're one of the teams that were drooling over Boni in the off-season (and apparently there were a few that really liked him), perhaps there'd be some kind of fit.

Why on earth would we want headley right now. He has less power than Lawrie...close to the same avg and Lawrie plays better d....keep the prospects and Lawrie

Nope

pretty close. Certainly won't be enough to say Lawrie would have to be the 3B over him...all of this is just fantasy as Headley won't be here

Trading one player isn't giving up, especially Melky. But really, there's many other moves I'd like Alex to make but that's not the direction of the team anymore. Josh Johnson's another that needs to go.

If he can be an average defender at second, I say do it. If he can even hit like he did last year and play second then he's a very good player. Maybe the Brewers would consider trading Aramis Ramirez!

The Ramirez suggestion......a joke right?

Hopefully. There's no reason to dive into the all veteran expensive team and deal every single prospect away.

Brett Lawrie is never gonna be a guy like Evan Longoria, but what he offers this team is defense and a .605 average with 2 outs, no one on base in innings 3 innings after a fan has run on the field but before the 7th

No, why not? The Brewers are bad and and maybe they'd want his $16M off next year's payroll. If it doesn't take any good prospects go for it.

I saw that MLBTR post earlier today and quite frankly, I absolutely love the suggestion. Exactly what we need.

It's easier to find a good hitter at 3B than 2B, this could be a good thing.

Maybe they've already identified some offseason 3B targets.

Lawrie would have be able to play the position of course.

Sigh. Perhaps they're so impressed with Lind that he'll be staying, while also figuring its almost time to move Bautista to 1b. That would put E5 back at third, Lawrie at second, and an outfield with Rasmus, Melky and Gose by opening day.

I did sigh. I wouldn't trust EE everyday at third. Bautista fine in RF? Sure but that won't continue long term. He will move to 1b and it should happen going into a season. If Melky isn't dealt, he, Rasmus and Gose should be everyday starters next year.
