fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Not much to say. Buherle did what we expected, 6 innings of 5 run ball but the offence decided not to play when they saw Reyes in the dugout and Kuroda on the mound lol Scoring Plays: Bottom of the 1st: Yankees score (Yanks lead 1-0): Robinson Cano grounds out to Emilio Bonifacio, Brett Gardiner scores from 3rd. Bottom of the 5th: Yankees score (Yanks lead 2-0): Jayson Nix lifts a flyball to Melky Cabrera, David Adams just beats the throw home Bottom of the 6th: Yankees score (Yanks lead 3-0): Austin Romine doubles to left scoring David Adams and moving Ichiro to 3rd Yankees score (Yanks lead 4-0): Brett Gardiner singles to left, Ichiro scores and Austin Romine to 3rd Yankees score (Yanks lead 5-0): Jayson Nix lifts a sac fly to Colby Rasmus, Austin Romine scores Box Scores: Box score on MLB.com not working yet

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 +1 / seriously / f***ing selfish d-bag Why should he change when he hits in the middle of the order almost every game? The message he gets from hitting in the meat of the order is that they're happy with him.

I cringed in his second AB. 5 pitches, only 1 of which was in the strike zone, the 4 others were at least a foot off the plate outside and down and he was there hacking at them.

Exactly what they had been avoiding during this 4-game winning streak. Now, Kuroda was good and they couldn't get anything going, but we know JPA has like 2 walks the whole year. Almost all the other hitters on the team have shown some improvement in this regard, but hey, he's the cleanup hitter, he's gotta get his reebeezz!

What a pathetic hitter JP is

I absolutely don't like jpa.. he has very bad plate discipline, bad plate vision and very bad play calling.. id be in favour of trading him.. but for what is the question? in reality what do you think jpa is valued at?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 If they don't win the next 2 season is done. Lol ok.
crrr Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Lol ok. The sad thing is it's true. They just don't have any games to give away.

Caper Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I wonder if Colby should bat clean up. At least he walks.
Figgy1R22R Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Edwin should be batting clean up, with Lind battened 3rd vs RHP, Colby 5, JPA 6

You never know with GM's, there may be one out there who might give up a prospect for him. The more important question is, do AA and his gang see JPA's shortcomings? I'd like to think they'd like to see A.J. Jimenez be the catcher of the future starting next year (unrealistic), or at least get a good defensive catcher and go with a platoon with Thole, but i have my doubts. I was hoping Gibbons, I guess cause he's a former catcher, would see how bad he is defensively. And given the way Gibbons has constructed the lineup, it makes it disappointing that he thinks JPA belongs in the middle of the order. The worst part about JPA hitting in the middle of the order is that it tells him everything is fine and he don't need to improve on anything except swing harder.

I haven't looked up the stats but Kuroda is exactly the type of pitcher who can just own Arencibia. Right hander, down in the zone, great control, nothing over the heart of the plate ever. JP is no match for that. Free swinger who can't lay off a pitch low and away. So that's exactly where Kuroda worked him, with fantastic results.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Yet our coaching staff bats him fourth............. I looked it up. Somehow JP has managed to hit 7 for 18 off Kuroda. That may or may not include last night.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 JP OBP right now is under .250 no way he should be in the top half of the lineup, let alone cleanup.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 JP OBP right now is under .250 no way he should be in the top half of the lineup, let alone cleanup. At this point, my instruction to him (were I Mattola) would be "don't swing, just... stop swinging for a few days, maybe if you don't swing at everything, they'll give you a pitch that's not a foot outside and then you can try to hit a homer."
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I'd love to join in on the JPA bashing but I've accepted that as long as he's on a 25 HR pace nothing will be done.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Rasmus and Arencibia should be hitting 7th and 8th Once Reyes is back that's exactly what we'll see
