Why? Cant it be just bad luck?

Well high school picks are far more of a crapshoot than any other pick since they are far more raw in their skillsets, so even the most optimistic results from a high school oriented draft philosophy will yield few results, bad luck or not

from an org perspective AA needs to draft more guys that are closer to being ready this year. there isn't much on the horizon and they have a lot of old guys who the jays will have to move.

It seems AA has a much tougher time pulling the trigger and cutting ties with position players than he does pitchers. I can see why you give Blanco the job out of spring training so that Thole gets regular at bats. But with how bad he has been a DFA should have occurred by now.

Would love to see JPA reduced to being behind the plate 60% of the time at most, and filling in at DH if we feel it necessary to get him some additional at bats. Let's give Thole a look.

Didn't take him long to cut ties with Aviles :D

Austin Wilson or Colin Moran are nice safe mature hit skill first prospects who would move up quickly.

Like that safe project-able kid they took..... Deck McGuire?

Don't worry, they'll probsbly take Stanek if he's available and his ceiling is certainly higher than Deck's. So for the couple of people who thought I was crazed-- who would rather have Kolten Wong over McGuire now?

I don't think there is anything safe about Wilson. He's just an older version of the athletic, project-able OF's we once had plenty of.

lol everyone HATED the idea of Kolten Wong, I was so against him. At least they didn't take Levi Michael though, it goes both ways.

Note that they took Beede instead of Wong, McGuire's draft was 2010. And we stole Aaron Sanchez in 2010, so it's a wash.

Yes, Beede. Brain cramp.

You know what.. I think this team is just starting to gel,

they have the potential to do damage but for f sakes they need to get a second baseman...

izturis and bonifaciao are not cutting it...

I don't really know who to go after if we were to trade

any thoughts on a second baseman ?

In house options

1. Call up Jim Negrych

2. Brett Lawrie to 2B

Or

Wait a few weeks and move Kawasaki to 2B once Reyes back

Realistic trade option

Chase Utley

I would absolutely love Chase Utley.

I think a Colby Rasmus - Nick Franklin/Brad Miller would be pretty beneficial for both the M's and Blue Jays, and Franklin's destined to move to 2nd anyways.

But Utley's career .375 OBP is too high - not a good fit for this team, so they'll probably pass

You've hot to realize that all that Spring Training talk of McGowan relieving was much ado about nothing. He's going to start and he either finally makes it back or not.

Dustin Mcgowan back as a starter??? I would be stunned. He is a reliever now.Santos would be a welcome addition to the team. Casey & Santos would be a good 1-2 punch

To be fair AA did say he wants to see him as a starter earlier this year

So who knows...

Lord knows we could use another right handed starter... All except Dickey spend a just a *little* too much time on the DL.

If AA was in charge of drafting pleasure slaves for a Greek bath house, he would be one of the best in baseball.

Drafting guys to play baseball? That's a little tougher.

Hit tool? What's that?

Apparently about the 4th or 5th criteria he looks at in order of importance

I am siding with KSaw on this - He will be a starter and if he stumbles (arm issues again) that will be the end of the experiment.

Scene from Spring training

Beest: "Alex... the minor leaguers. They look great. Absolutely great. Unbelievable job."

Alex: "Thanks Paul. We worked really hard on the draft the last few years."

Beest: "And you guys did a bang-up job. I just got a look at some of those boys. And I'm drooling. I'm drooling Alex. You did terrific. Did I tell you I'm drooling?"

Alex (laughing): "It's great to see you so excited."

Beest: "Excited?? Oh boy am I excited... hey Alex listen. Do those boys all have a place to stay for the spring. You see I have this Condo and Mrs. Beest didn't come down this year... so there's lots of extra room."

I agree Negrych should be up but lets face it, A.A wants a good Triple A team

lawrie to 2b.. jose to 3b.. gose to cf.

that sounds like the best option,

what do you think about getting Jemile Weeks from OAK?

That we have enough replacement level options and he's not even outhitting Negrych in AAA.
