Nox Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Any chance this guy is capable of filling the FO with capable baseball people? No idea really.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Well I guess the best I can wish for this season is a .500 record. they will finish 81-81
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 John Gibbons: "You shouldn’t lose games like that. You’ve got to throw strikes. ... let them hit their way to victory.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Strongly disagree. Wasn't that bad meaning we didn't get totally mauled like the Dickey trade. In terms of value, we got killed in the Marlins trade as well. I kind of understood the trade and was okay with it, but I thought the Dickey trade was overkill. In terms of value yeah but I don't think we really gave up anything special. Well we're probably going to get absolutely nothing from JJ, Buehrle looks like a huge negative-value asset, and Boni is f***ing awful. This trade won't end well. We'll at least get a draft pick from JJ. Reyes could probably fetch something nice.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 they will finish 81-81 That would suck. I rather them lose big time and be out of it by June so I can waste my summer doing something else.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 the soccer show lol zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The silver lining..............back to back top-10 draft pick '13 and '14
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Indeed. There is literally nothing else. Maybe Gose as well. But if were counting on Lawrie and Gose as our future, well then were screwed.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 That would suck. I rather them lose big time and be out of it by June so I can waste my summer doing something else. they will get red hot and be well over .500 and then s*** the bed down the stretch.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Will we? This could be a completely lost season. We may not even qualify him @ $13 million or whatever. Why wouldn't we? There's absolutely no reason not to.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 they will get red hot and be well over .500 and then s*** the bed down the stretch. With this pitching staff I don't see how they ever get close to .500.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Not so sure about the JJ draft pick. They have to offer him 12 million. If we get the draft pick I'll consider it a small victory. If he doesn't go 18-8 with the red sox next year.... that would even be a victory.
digiblader Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Boston just lost to lesser pitchers in Minnesota this week and 6 of their last 7--that team is in trouble. Can't see a sweep with the way Boston's playing right now.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Wasn't that bad meaning we didn't get totally mauled like the Dickey trade. Lol, understood.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 What if he goes 5-9 with a 5+ era in only 20 starts or something??
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 With this pitching staff I don't see how they ever get close to .500. this organization gravitates to .500 they will find a way to get it down

Can't see a sweep with the way Boston's playing right now. I can. I suppose anything can happen, but our rotation is pretty awful right now.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 they will get red hot and be well over .500 and then s*** the bed down the stretch. With this pitching staff? Forget about it.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Honestly, the Marlins trade wasn't really even that bad. It's just the Dickey trade that worries me. We may not even get anything back for him at this point. Disagree. But even if you make that trade, you have to get a discount on the prospects side for Reyes' and especially Buehrle's backloaded deals. I do think the moves were dictated to an extent by Beeston and upper management, but as an MLB GM, you can't take on Buehrle's contract, especially given the Marlins' history of firesales. I won't even go into the Dickey trade, it was just horrible. What made it worse was reading about how AA basically just accepted that you give up 2 top prospects for an ace without taking into account the guys' age and how the contract negotiations were going with the Mets. I don't think many would be mad about the state of the franchise if they had overspent in free agency, but to overspend in terms of prospects and $ just sets this franchise up for a rough ride, especially with the age of the team. It's basically the complete opposite of what the rebuilding plan AA laid out was supposed to be, which makes me suspicious of the goofball that is the president.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Now? Maybe not. That could change if he's out all year. We're looking at about $125 million without JJ next year, and I imagine Rogers will be none too pleased with the prospect of increasing payroll yet again. Guaranteeing $13 million to a broken 30-year old coming off a lost season may be far from a sure thing. They almost have to though. Even a hurt 2013 JJ likely gets a decent contract offer if he is healthy come the winter.
