Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I appreciate you wanting to let everyone express their opinions, and you're right about that. I guess it's not so much the original post that's a problem but more that these types of threads quickly become breeding grounds for the kinds of posters that ruined the old place. People speaking in absolutes and insulting anyone who challenges them is just annoying and destroys any chance at a healthy baseball discussion. Agreed, already see same posters posting the same negative crap in every thread. We all know the Jays will need to beat the odds to make something of this season, why keep harping on it with constant dreariness and negativity?
Nox Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I thought we left this crap on the old board. Are people completely forgetting the two wildcard spots? No. As I posted, there's a 5-10% chance we end up with one of those 2 spots or better.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 No. As I posted, there's a 5-10% chance we end up with one of those 2 spots or better. I like those odds!

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 We just have to think back to the BJ board 3 or 4 years ago. When there were less troll threads. You used to be able to beat them by making the topic legitimately about baseball. Throw stats at them, that usually conifuses them. Add in that if they don't talk about baseball, they can get banned. Report away when you think someone is a troll but try not to give them what they want which is attention. The mods are running IP reports every single day so we know who the duplicate accounts are and have banned a few accounts already and issued several warnings. No board will be perfect but this one is as much better and is active. The multiple accounts thing was the real problem. The dogg and the high85 or whatever are fine, as long as there is only one of them. The fact is that these guys, the dogg, and the high85 did the Jays a favour. If I was a completely nuts, instead of just somewhat unstable I would speculate these were the creation of an internet "reputation" firm hired by Paul Beeston. If the Blue Jays hired one of these firms that's exactly what they'd do. Go to places where people were critical of the organization and flood them with drivel and spam. It seems that teams really don't want the message boards to be active. They can be a source of rabid (but often legitamite) criticism of the organization, directly accessible from the team's home page. What marketers would want that??? Stay in line everybody. Buy some tickets. Romero didn't break down last night. Buerhle doesn't have a 7+ era. Lawrie is developing just fine. Nothing to see here. Buy some tickets. You want to buy them now before the Jays heat up. It will be hard to get tickets in August in the middle of the pennant race.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 vBulletin has an option to have someone's posts to be approved by a moderator before being actually posted and viewed by others. It would be nice to place the trolls on this option before this forum becomes just like the old one. If the poster keeps on trolling then he needs to be banned. It would give the moderators the needed power to control this forum in a positive way.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I was under the impression that we moved to this board to avoid this crap.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I was under the impression that we moved to this board to avoid this crap. I don't get why this thread is so bad. He said it will likely take 92 wins to make the playoffs. That's about what it took last year to get one of the wild card spots. I guess he doesn't really quantify what the chances are. He indicates the chances are zero. Which isn't true, there is some chance. What it is exactly I don't know. So maybe that's why it's a bad thread?? Because he doesn't quantify how bad things are?? Would it be OK if he quantified how bad things are?? I heard maybe 5% chance somewhere. Is that OK?? Or is that considered negative too??

Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Down to 3%. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/ May 10 and the season is almost already a write off, ugh..... this one hurts.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 May 10 and the season is almost already a write off, ugh..... this one hurts. And that's why I don't think it's fair to call this a troll thread. I mean maybe the language that was used was just meant to get people going?? But honestly there is almost no way to write about the general situation without being overly negative. It's been a bad year. It's not like we are 17-19 after losing a couple tough ones but with a +15 run differential and several guys looking good... I mean in that case you might have guys starting threads saying it's over... and that would be trolling. But given the situation how could this be considered trolling??
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I don't even know why everyone is jumping on you. It wasn't a necessary thread, but it also didn't read as trolling. Lingering effect from the old board. I think people are so afraid of what happened there happening here, that they're willing to jump on anything critical as being potential trolling.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I don't even know why everyone is jumping on you. It wasn't a necessary thread, but it also didn't read as trolling. Negativity shouldn't be classified as trolling. This even had some decent math in it lol.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Lol and that's the 2nd person to respond with that video. This should be a tradition.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 0.1% WS Win is comical And Bodog had as 10:1 to win a little more than a month ago. Why do secondary sports betting markets not exist? We need to be able to short utter nonsense like that.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Negativity shouldn't be classified as trolling. This even had some decent math in it lol. lol, most trolls don't use fatcs, but some of the better trolls use them and twist them to their argument.
