GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 LOL i just gotta take a second to quote this to make sure nobody missed it. I actually laughed out loud Lol it was a great post. DAT MATH. Nothing a 16 and 4 / 17 and 3 run wouldn't fix . Offense is showing signs of coming alive (except Lawrie ) and these two comeback wins plus Happ ,s injury not being serious may just kickstart this team . Certainly have the potential to go one a run like that if this offense goes into high gear . I've said this a million times and I'll say it again. If Lawrie plays up to a sliver of his potential, this team is gonna play really well.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 BEDMAS bro do you even math? Brackets Exponents Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction. Gr 9 math aint got nothin on me
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Brackets Exponents Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction. Gr 9 math aint got nothin on me I hate people who say PEDMAS. It's brackets, not f***ing parentheses. Pisses me off.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 OK. please tell me how the pitching situation will change. I want to see the scenario you have in your brain. This isn't a "bad stretch". It's a bad team. Then why the f*** are you here? Dont you have a subway to throw your body in front of?
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Pathetic thread. I thought we were past this kind of useless BS when we came to this board?
Dude Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I think the dream team is creeping in slowly.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Pathetic thread. I thought we were past this kind of useless BS when we came to this board? Why would you think that?

jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I just want to see the Jays make it to .500 or better before the all-star break. Short term goals are more attainable.
admin Site Manager Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Pathetic thread. I thought we were past this kind of useless BS when we came to this board? If someone wants to argue the season is over, it's a fair point to make. I'm not going to delete it. But other than that, yeah some of these comments are borderline trolling, and if it keeps up, and that's the sole purpose of signing up here, than what's the point of being here.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I don't like to think of it in terms of ....we have to win so many games, out of so many games to have a chance. All I know is that if we all 5 games back by July 1.... Reyes comes back, maybe Stroman is ready to contribute..... Maybe DMac can contribute.... Maybe Romero can regain form....ect,ect.... We got a good shot. The Red Sox are not winning 92 games.... I don't think the Yankees or O's are either.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The Cardinals and A's both had 10-20 30 game stretches last year and both made the playoffs. Kindly shut the f*** up and take your Debbie Downer trolling to the old board. It doesn't work like that. given a team is 92-70 the probablity that looking back one 30 game stretch would be 10-30 is much higher than given a team starts 10-30 what is the probability that they finish 92-70

kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I hate people who say PEDMAS. It's brackets, not f***ing parentheses. Pisses me off. While parentheses are just one subset of the set of brackets, the order of operations mnemonic is often taught at a very low level, with only one set of brackets (typically parentheses) in the expression. I don't see why it's an issue that the term "parentheses" is used.

Theres no reason why the probability would be any different. You win when you win, you lose when you lose. And its 10-20, not 10-30.

It would be pretty pathetic if you thought about deleting the thread. The problem with the old board, was not that there were threads like these...... It's that there were 100 threads like these.... All posted on the same day..... There is nothing wrong with this.... Except that the opinion is not that great.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The season isn't over but the horrendous start will be VERY hard to overcome. You can't undo those games and just because we had a far worse than expected stretch, it does not entitle us to a far better than expected stretch to compensate. That's the gambler's fallacy and it's fundamentally NOT how this works. Baseball Prospectus has us at 5% to make the playoffs, 3% to make the divisional round. They're more bearish on the team's underlying true talent level than most projection systems but no matter how you slice it, we're not better than a 1 in 10 shot of making the playoffs. That is the unfortunate truth of the situation.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Ju1ced, just please don't let the dream team back. While parentheses are just one subset of the set of brackets, the order of operations mnemonic is often taught at a very low level, with only one set of brackets (typically parentheses) in the expression. I don't see why it's an issue that the term "parentheses" is used. It's not an issue, I just really hate it for some reason. I just learned BEDMAS, I guess, and it's weird seeing it and thinking, "what the f***? Oh, right, parentheses."

People obviously get emotional and want to deny it no matter how far out we are. But if your sole purpose of signing up here is to post negative comments, then it's obvious the only reason you signed up here is to troll. If you only post negative comments, you're obviously not really a fan of the team, so why are you here?

I'm pretty sure I learnt it PEMDAS/PEDMAS, but honestly, I don't even think about it anymore, as order of operations is second nature to me at this point in my life.

Yeah, but on facebook, there are always those stupid "which answer is it" questions, so I see people posting "PEDMAS" a lot.

jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 This thread was created to elicit a negative emotional response from the readers. Thats what trolling is. The difference between this guy and a troll is I think he would still cheer for the Jays if they were winning. I think he is a bit pessimistic at the moment, but it could also be argued that he is being realistic about the Jays chances of turning things around. It doesn't happen often. I think most of this board is trying to be optimistic right now because it's May and we don't want to consider Jays games worthless just yet. As I said, I just want to see them make it back to .500 before the all-star break and then make a push from there.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Yeah, but on facebook, there are always those stupid "which answer is it" questions, so I see people posting "PEDMAS" a lot. Where the mnemonic itself is the answer to a question? That seems like a fairly worthless bit of trivia.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I'm not sure this is trolling per se, just a stupid thread from a casual.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Where the mnemonic itself is the answer to a question? That seems like a fairly worthless bit of trivia. It's facebook. Everything on there is worthless, lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Really they are synonyms, it's a matter of preference what you use. Parenthesis is used more commonly in British English. American English commonly refer to them as brackets, Exactly, I just strongly prefer brackets for whatever reason.
