Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I would say based on his stats and attacking approach, yes. Thoughts? So far this season, top 3! Kimbrel, Mo, Janssen, Chapman
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I would say based on his stats and attacking approach, yes. Thoughts? There's no such thing as a top 5 closer imo. It all depends on the situation the reliever finds himself in on a team. Is Janssen a capable pitcher with the mindset and smarts to be a success in a late-inning relief role? Definitely.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I just want to know why he gets so many calls lol. Does his cutter's movement make it look like a strike to the umps?
LittleWall Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 I just love his approach. He looks so wired on the mound, how can a batter focus?
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 He's an excellent reliever. Too much volatility at the position to call him top-5 or anything. He is a tier below Kimbrel and Chapman though. While I agree with you, it is interesting to note that both Aroldis and Kimbrel are predominately teo pitch pitchers. Janssen commands half a dozen offerings. Not saying he's better, I just value his ability to offer different looks.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Who cares if he doesnt throw hard, pinpoint control, command of a billion different pitches, works fast and pounda the zone Hes elite

Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Who cares, we have him on our team and we get to enjoy watching him carve up the opposition.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Janssen is nails. Love watching the dude pitch.
LittleWall Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 This was a proud moment last year in Cleveland. Cool dude for sure
Iluvbjs Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Especially considering that just a few years back, he was in no-mans land with this team. He has aced his craft to just about perfection. He's certainly not overpowering, but he's sure learned that command makes up for 5-8 mph hour of fastball. I'm glad he's our closer and I grow more confident in his ability every time I see him pitch.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I just want to know why he gets so many calls lol. Does his cutter's movement make it look like a strike to the umps? cause the dude paints the black so often. His pitches are so rarely out over the plate, and he's gaining a reputation with his pin point control.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I wonder what the Jays could get for Casey from a team like Detroit.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I wonder what the Jays could get for Casey from a team like Detroit. Valverde.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Kimbrel Chapman Papelbon/Rivera Then some others including Janssen
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Kimbrel Chapman Papelbon/Rivera Then some others including Janssen Kimbrel has blown three of his last five. You say SSS, I say lack of control.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Kimbrel has three blown saves already this season and an ERA over 3. Casey has 0 blown saves, and an ERA of 0.75 Kimbrel might look more impressive, but I trust Casey more to get the job done.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Kimbrel has blown three of his last five. You say SSS, I say lack of control. Kimbrel hasn't lacked control, for example the pitch against Choo tonight was fantastic but he went down and got it.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I wonder what the Jays could get for Casey from a team like Detroit. Rondon, Jake Thompson & Austin Schotts.
Figgy1R22R Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 You really wouldn't think he would be. But it's hard to deny the results so far this year as well as what he was able to accomplish last year. He won't overpower you but can really locate well and just comes at you. He works quick, throws strikes, keeps the ball down, hits his corners and his playing with a ton of confidence. Nothing worse for a batter when you know the pitcher is going to throw a strike, and you still can't hit it. To me, he is definitely top 5.
EdwinJanssen Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Possibly the most interesting pitching mechanics ive ever seen from the windup. Most pitchers are very sterile and have similar mechanics but not Janssen. Good break/cut, just enough velocity, and perfect location around the strikezone. Easily top 5.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I've been calling for Janssen to be the closer for the last four years, but oh no, you guys wanted Santos, because he has "wicked stuff". Unfortunately, that wicked stuff, comes with walks, wild pitches, and hard hit balls. Casey on the other hand, doesn't have all the flash. He just gets the job done by out-thinking the hitters with a veritable arsenal of pitches. Kimbrel was definitely better last year, definitely gets more strikeouts, and definitely has more 'wicked stuff', but I prefer the nice boring W in the win column.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I've been calling for Janssen to be the closer for the last four years, but oh no, you guys wanted Santos, because he has "wicked stuff". No one said this, lol.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 No one said this, lol. Yes they did.Once again Adam Greenwood is dropping truth bombs. Some were even calling for Delabar to be the closer this year because of the K numbers. Casey is our best reliever by a mile.
