Ermahgerd, Austin Meadows please.

This draft is promising in the idea that one of Meadows/Frazier has a very good chance to fall to us and if they don't there's always Smith, but it's saddening in the thought that AA will pass up on all of them.

again, Trey Ball or Reese McGuire

AA doesn't decide who to draft, the scouting director does. They'll take the best prospect, don't worry guys.

It depends on who they define as the best prospect, though. For all we know they could have Frazier and McGuire on the board and they could easily think McGuire is truly the better prospect.

It would be excellent.

Frazier or Meadows

I don't see why Seattle would take McGuire but Ball would be s*** too

Have you ever seen any of these guys actually play a game?

Perfect Game's 2nd mock draft

10. TORONTO BLUE JAYS

SEAN MANAEA - LHP - Indiana State

Manaea was the No. 1 ranked prospect at the start of the 2013, based on his overpowering summer in the Cape Cod League. His stuff hasn't been as electric this spring and he has missed some mid-season starts because of a hip flexor, but the latest indications are he is healthy, and he simply can't last any longer. It hasn't gone unnoticed, either, that the Blue Jays have stumbled mostly this season because of erratic starting pitching. -- AS

If they think McGuire is the better prospect, then they should take him.

I see your reasoning but I they shouldn't think McGuire is the better prospect.

Well, Keith Law had us taking McGuire over Smith, Meadows and Frazier in his latest mock. I'd be very excited with McGuire, he seems to be a true catcher with standout offensive tools.

Isn't that a view of not who's best, but who will go where? I'm quite sure it is.

Yep. But KLaw doesn't seem to have any real insider info on who the Jays will take, it's his opinion that we would take McGuire over Frazier. He hasn't updated his overall rankings since March.

It's his opinion that we will take him over Frazier, not that we should.

Don't get me wrong, McGuire is actually an excellent prospect and I agree with what you stated earlier, but Frazier is just an incredible talent and shouldn't be passed over.

I'm sure Keith would say if we took McGuire over Frazier that we should have done so.

Frazier has good tools that play up because of a high motor. He's not a generational talent.

That's to make himself look good lol.

He's a better pick than McGuire, he's got a nice hit tool and we need that.

I wasn't trying to work you up. The Jays have a very good scouting staff... Despite what "experts" think on here. What are you 16?18? Do you really think you can make a better pick the people that have been doing this most of their lives?

But at least your putting your time in reading up on everyone.

Ha, there's a first.

Not disclosing my age because that's not something one should do on a board that most likely is inhibited somewhere by the Dogg (I prefer my body outside of a meat grinder thanks). I'm just voicing my opinion on what the Jays, in my opinion (which doesn't matter :P ) should do, and despite the fact that I'm usually wrong, I'll try and at least put up a damn good fight. But this isn't even just about my opinion, the majority of what I've read from those much smarter than me (not saying much), those who 'have been doing this most of their lives' have Frazier ahead of McGuire, and that, plus my own opinion, is why I think that we should take Frazier over McGuire if such an opportunity presented itself.

Do they?

I dont really think we can say that at this point.

Not even BA and Keith Law know as much about these players as the Jays do. That's why I'm fine with them taking whoever they want, Caper is right.

BA will talk to some scouts who've seen Frazier and McGuire a couple times and ask some front-office personnel from teams not picking in the top half for their opinion on the two. The Jays will get hundreds of full looks at these guys, they're the true experts.

Law and BA and whoever would know more about prospects that the Jays don't bother scouting in depth, though. They probably know more on Frazier as I've not once heard the Jays linked to them, but I'm not Kirk, I'm not an insider. :P

GordieDougie, haven't you already told us your age in another thread? You and Fatcow are both '96 born IIRC.

Whaa? No.

The Jays do see everybody even if you don't hear about, I'm sure they've had dozens of looks on Frazier. They have an area scout sitting on every baseball region in North America and cross-checkers who oversee that and scout the more interesting players themselves. Also, Law and BA only rank 100 prospects because they don't have any way to rank more than that. The Jays will have a board of 1000+ guys.

--

I must be thinking of someone else then.

Well, there's no way of knowing this, and we're getting into org preferences that we don't know much about.

Probably, I'd never reveal my age on a dogg-board.

Perfect Game's 2nd mock draft

I'd be ok with this. It really depends on his health but, Manaea has some of the best stuff in the draft and is the best LHP IMO. I'd prefer a high upside bat but, AA should go BPA and that very well may be Manaea.

At this point I have it;

Frazier

Bryant

Meadows

Moran

Crawford

McGuire

Smith

Wilson

Renfroe

I'd be very concerned that McGuire is one of those in-betweeners that can't stick behind the plate and doesn't have a bat for a corner spot.

Except Frazier has +20HR pop and some think he can stick in CF...

I think i would rather go for Ball, seems to have better secondaries and command, the fastball isn't as good but i could see Ball adding some velo pretty easily

Velo > Stuff/Command

Do you wanna another McGuire or Jenkins in your farm system?

It really depends on the health of Manaea's hip. When healthy Manaea already had the velo and has a supposed great pitcher's frame. As a LHP I can't really see the advantage of going with Ball, who has way more question marks, unless there are sign-ability concerns I'm not aware of.

Deck was coming out of college, Ball is is still in hs and has a lot of room to grow

Heat bro, we need heat over command.

McGuire (command+pitchability) over Sale (Heat) was a disaster.

i also thought manaea was under boras advisory? I would definately be a little concerned with manaea's injury troubles as well

Manaea is a Boras guy but, he hurt his hip not his shoulder or elbow. If it doesn't look to be chronic the Jays should at least be interested. If he's still around he is probably the BPA when the Jays on the clock.
