How the hell did Deck McGuire strike out 10 guys?

Maybe he has a tiny bit of value after all.

Matt (Peterborough)

Signs of life from Deck McGuire today, can he still develop into an MLB starter?

Klaw (1:52 PM)

Doubt it.

I found some proof that neither King nor I were behind the crazy Kalfus fan:

He commented with Kalfus stuff to a blog (http://www.bluejaysfromaway.com/toronto-blue-jays-2013-mlb-draft-report-rd-21-30/) a day after Kalfus' draft, June 11, 2013.

King, GD and I didn't even start the Kalfus hysteria and accompanying thread until July 18th! He clearly existed before we had any knowledge of Kalfus or his accomplishments.

It was June 18th but yeah that guy is all over the internet. He comments on youtube videos of Brenden as well. Also, if you read through this guys tweets, I'm pretty sure it's his twitter.

Hit 'tweets and replies' to see more.

No, it was the 11th. Three days after the draft though.

There is something very very strange going on here.

Aaron Brooks, the KC pitchers that was against Stroman, the one that the Jays destroyed. He was also an all star in the minors...

Good to see Nolin back for Buffalo even though he didn't have a great outing: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.

Hey guys. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think Drabek is fixable and still has potential. Obviously Drabek has command issues and if I remember correctly his arm slot is slightly overhanded. I wonder if he drops his armslot slightly if that would help with his command?

I have rarely seen Drabek throw his breaking pitches for strikes due to crazy 12-6 break. I wonder if dropping arm slot a little and making the curve ball more of a 11-7 would help him command the ball.

After this draft how would you guys rank our prospects? Or should we wait until short season ball has been going for a few months? Right now though I'd probably rank it:

1. Sanchez

3. Pompey

4. Hoffman

5. Osuna

6. Barreto

7. Pentecost

8. Reid-Foley

9. Nolin

10. Smith Jr. / Urena

I forgot Castro. I think he'll be in the top 10 by the end of the year. I also forgot Lugo. He's starting to tear it up now in Lansing as one of the youngest players. Average is up over .300 after tonight, and his defense is solid if unspectacular at short.

Talk about replenishing the farm system. Replace Syndergaard with Hoffman and D'Arnaud with Pentecost.:D

I dunno if I'm willing to put Pompey #4 just yet, actually. .155 ISO and .374 BABIP with still a few too many K's. Walks are good, baserunning is good, hit skill is great. He's up there for sure but I dunno if he's up there with our top 4 yet.

I hope Smoral makes incremental progress this year, even if it's just finding his mechanics. I'm not ready to give up on him. Guys that big usually take longer to develop. He's like Norris that if he finally gets it, his stuff is good enough to make up for lost time.

Smoral looked good at times in 2013. Some flashes

Anderson: BB - K - ISO

2011: 9.5% - 19.0% - .216

2012: 5.1% - 33.5% - .110

The guy isn't as bad as we saw in 2012. We must see him playing healthy and then draw our conclusions.

Dan Norris with another good outing.

He's been fairly dominate for about 60 innings. When do you figure they will call him up to AA?

I don't mean to toot my own horn but I went back to my old forum stomping grounds and looked at some of my old posts. I'm particularly proud of these ones from May 2011.

Discussing a replacement for Aaron Hill I targeted a not too well known prospect from the Astros.

Trade a low-level prospect to Houston for Jose Altuve? Their GM seems to give away good players for relatively low returns (see Pence, Bourn deals).

Here's my trade proposal: Kyle Drabek for Jose Altuve of the Astros. Proposed something like this around June, but I've been high on Altuve for a while. But apparently so is Keith Law so I'm not sure what to think.

Altuve would be a good young second baseman who's major league ready. He's short but is said to be a plus defender, who can hit for average, hit for a little bit of power, is hard to strikeout, and has excellent character and makeup, but needs to walk more.

I actually was talking about Altuve going back to June 2010, but the forum's archive won't go back that far apparently. Anyway Altuve made his major league debut a month after I posted this and the rest is history. I remember people flaming me for wanting to trade Drabek for some no name second baseman. Oh well.:P

That post isn't something to be proud of, Ace. :P

Altuve is nothing special but that obviously would have been useful. However, the Pence return was incredible. Singleton, Cosart (who used to be very highly regarded), AND Domingo Santana?
