tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I'll ask Kyle/driveline mechanics about Boyd, I know they worked together this offseason. I've known Kyle nearly 10 years from a poker forum
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Right now, Boyd is better option than Aaron Sanchez 'tallica say "Sad but true"
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Right now, Boyd is better option than Aaron Sanchez 'tallica say "Sad but true" Plus he's still got the entertaining prospect aspect that Estrada doesn't have. Consider me team Boyd. Issue is, swapping Boyd for Sanchez inevitably means Sanchez to the pen, where he should really be back in the Minors trying to sort out his command issues.

Yeah and Sanchez to the pen probably means having to DFA someone who is out of options as opposed to the simple demotion that's possible with him.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Who all is out of options? Redmond, Hendriks, Estrada?
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The bullpen is so unusually constructed. 3 long relievers (all righties, but sort of irrelevant), 3 lefties and then 2 righties whose combined age is that of Dickey.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Im just using a larger sample size as I normally do in such cases. Well Hoffman was never really regarded as a top prospect until the Cape before his third year. I don't think he was even drafted out of high school. He had some big increases in stuff between his second and third years in college.... for whatever reason. He's a beanpole like you so maybe he just filled out a bit and the fastball went from low 90's to mid/upper.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Who all is out of options? Redmond, Hendriks, Estrada? Redmond, Hendriks, Cecil. Estrada has options (in theory) but too much service time (I assume). http://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-toronto-blue-jays/
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Who all is out of options? Redmond, Hendriks, Estrada? Cecil, Redmond, Hendriks. Estrada basically is out of options too since he has 5+ years service time and would have to consent to a minor league assignment.
fireballW Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What are the reports on Boyd's velocity? Sitting 90-92 like most lefty starters that come up

It's an easy move; just call up Boyd and send Sanchez to AA
King Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What are the reports on Boyd's velocity? Sitting 90-92 like most lefty starters that come up 89-91 MPH last year but there was a report a few weeks ago that his velocity has spiked to 92-94
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Issue is, swapping Boyd for Sanchez inevitably means Sanchez to the pen, where he should really be back in the Minors trying to sort out his command issues. Honestly the best thing to do with Sanchez might be to just make him a reliever and forget about him ever starting games.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Cecil, Redmond, Hendriks. Estrada basically is out of options too since he has 5+ years service time and would have to consent to a minor league assignment. I figured Cecil also but failed to mention him given he's never getting sent down. Hmmm, Hynes is vulnerable I guess then. Of course, AA could try to sneak down Hendriks down also, but he's looked far too good.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What are the reports on Boyd's velocity? Sitting 90-92 like most lefty starters that come up Al Skorupa NH LHP Matt Boyd w/ a strong start. Cmnd eluded him 1st couple innings, but then filled zone with solid 4 pitch mix. Sinker 89-92. #BlueJays

Probably, but that's kind of a shame. I suppose it might be the best way to actually ever get value from him though, albeit a significantly lower potential value. It's an easy move; just call up Boyd and send Sanchez to AA I agree, but at this point they might be in too deep. Pulling this off doesn't seem like what they want to do, and wouldn't be received either I imagine.

tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 While 99% of this forum now agrees that Sanchez is a terrible starter, Matt Boyd is probably not much better. He is still below Estrada, Hendriks, Santana, Jenkins on my depth chart

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Boyd isn't on the 40 man roster, so we'd have to remove someone (and probably lose them) no matter who we demote, can't just straight Sanchez down, Boyd up (though, there are a few people on there that could be cut without too much bother, and depending on the situation, Izturis could maybe be moved to the 60day DL)
fireballW Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Blue Jays pitchers that are said to have a good curveball ball as prospects hardly ever seem to make it to the show with that same quality curveball. Drabek and Sanchez both come to mind. God our team would look so much better with Stroman swapped for Sanchez and Sanchez in the pen.
