Pompey went 1-4 with no walks or strikeouts.

Norris went 5.2 innings, struck out 4, had 4 hits, walked 3 and 1ER.

So overall, good from the line. Not sure if anyone here actually somehow caught the game live or online to give any input.

from scouting the stats, his control was poor. Threw 95 pitches and only 53 strikes walking 3

also the fact that he threw 95 pitches over 5.1 innings showed he was not getting guys out on economical pitch counts

Oh well, still too early. I'm not too concerned since he's still in dead-arm period. I'll give him 2 more weeks or 3 starts before I start worrying.

Tolleson is playing short for Buffalo. I thought he elected free agency.

Nope cleared waivers. Will probably replace Diaz as the second MI if ever the OF situation sorts itself out.

Talk about a glaring loophole

Well it involves exposing a player to all the other teams so it's not a very practical loophole but good on the Jays for identifying it and using it.

For any player this is unsure about whether they should accept the assignment or choose free agency, a team can just say "look, elect FA and sign back with us and you may be back up sooner".

The player already has the right to choose FA so it doesn't expose them to other teams any more than they were already exposed.

Basically, the rules should say that if a player elects FA and signs back with same team then the waiting period still applies.

Initial word was that Tolleson would head to Buffalo on outright assignment, even though as a player whose contract had already been assigned outright once in his career, he had the right to elect free agency. But a player’s decision doesn’t take effect until 24 hours after official notice from the club, allowing him to elect free agency instead.By re-signing with the Blue Jays as a free agent, he’s able to avoid the 10-day stay in the minors that would have been required had he accepted the outright assignment.

The Blue Jays are looking to add another middle infielder soon, perhaps as soon as Friday’s series opener against the visiting Boston Red Sox when left-hander Wade Miley is scheduled to start. They played games Tuesday and Wednesday without a backup infielder because they optioned Jonathan Diaz to make room for outfielder Chris Colabello./

Having Tolleson available to make a start against Miley makes a lot of sense. I'm interested in seeing what the corresponding move will be. Do they finally DL someone? Maybe Valencia since he's not that important and hard to fit into the lineup when you already have two hobbled corner OFs to deal with it.

Yes but why ignore the fact that he was already exposed? That's a necessary step in the process.

Yeah if Valencia twists his ankle and has to sit for 2-3 days anyway, I don't really see the point in not just putting him on the DL for 15 so you can get immediate reinforcements.

I don't see where we were ignoring that fact. Also, he may have technically been exposed but if the decision for him to sign back was made before he even elected FA then functionally he may have never been exposed.

But he went through waivers no?

* exposed as a FA who can sign a minor league deal with anyone

exposure on waivers is a bit different, of course

Can he opt for free agency as soon as he's DFA'd without even clearing waivers? My understanding was that all that had to come first and THEN he could refuse the assignment to the minors and become a FA but maybe I don't understand.

I don't think so. The timing for him to refuse the assignment and ask for his release comes after waivers.

So Hoffman must be a week or 2 from his debut?

I remember seeing somewhere that his debut is set for exactly one year after his surgery, so I think he'll debut next week.

Pompey looks like he had a rough night. 1 for 7 with a strike out. He is also playing LF and not CF from the looks of it.

Do you think they'll move Estrada back to the pen or will he take Sanchez's spot?

Yeah, this is what I remember as well. Getting closer.
