Does anyone know the status of Max Pentecost?

He last played on August 7 and I believe was being sent to Florida for an injury evaluation

A few Blue Jays relevant answers from the latest BA prospect hot sheet chat. Plus an appearance from one of our own board members, John Havok.

owais (Toronto): Hi J.J, Any love for Richard Urena from your side? What does he project to be in the future? Thank you

J.J. Cooper: He’s made strides with the bat. When you consider his defensive ability, that makes him a very intriguing prospect. Light years away since he’s an Appy League guy, but he may be the best glove in that league and one of the best bats. Nice combo.

Clint (BC, Canada): In the Prospect Hot Sheet you wrote Norris has "three plus pitches", I've read elsewhere he has only two, fastball and slider. What's his third plus pitch?

J.J. Cooper: See him on the right night and the changeup is at least average and will flash plus. I’d probably stick with two plus (fastball and slider) and a third that is presently a tick-below-average to average (Changeup) plus a useable if below-avg curveball, but the changeup projects as possibly plus down the road.

JohnHavok (Lethbridge, Alberta): Recent comments from Alex Anthopoulos indicate Danial Norris could be seen in the majors this year in September. Is that a rush or has Norris really progressed that far with just 8 AA appearances and 1 very dominatnig AAA start?

J.J. Cooper: AA’s comments indicate he could pitch out of the bullpen. Considering his stuff, that likely won’t overtax him as he could just come in and focus on blowing hitters away in short stints. For a team that still has at least a hope of a playoff spot, Norris could be a valuable addition.

Sounds pretty encouraging but like the author says anyone who thinks hes a number 2 starter is going to be disappointed. He'll strike some guys out but hes going to give up his fair share of hits since he works up in the zone and the command is still very much a work in process.

I know some have said it's tough to get excited about a guy like Barreto because he's like 3 years away. However, I'd contend that he's been worthy of a promotion to Lansing this year and with a good showing there, could've started 2015 at Dunedin or been a good start away from being promoted there early next year.

Anyway, I understand he's got a lot to work on, just saying that he's 18 and killing it against older competition and a strong case could be made that he deserved to be promoted to a higher level...at 18 years old!!

BTW, the Bisons are only a game out of the loss column for a wild card spot in the IL, but still well back of Syracuse (Washington's AAA team). They're more likely to make the playoffs than the big league club.

Jays system sounds deep in good prospects. But I remember hearing this a few years ago. When all we heard was Nicolino, Drabek, Lawrie, Marisinick, combined with first rounders like Anderson, Comer, McQuire, etc...

McQuire?

Norris, Sanchez and Pompey are legit; performing well at high level bro. Jays farm system isn't good, it's great for the depth and the talent near to the bigs.

Pretty low standards Ang. Borderline top 10 system, I wouldn't call that great.

its a top 10 system no doubt

Certainly is not a no doubt to 10 system but you're entitled to your own opinion. FWIW I have them in the 7 - 10 range.

AA was on TSN radio and was talking about their prospects. Raves about Castro saying he was up to 102 and throws strikes with a plus change. Based on what I've heard I would think the internal propsect rankings of the Jays is

1Norris

2 Sanchez

3 Pompey

4Osuna

5Castro

Remember when Buck Farmer was up recently for the Tigers? Well, he got lit up in his first AAA start:

0.1 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 3BB, 0K, 189.00 ERA. How did this guy do passably vs. the Pirates last week? Guess it shows why you don't jump guys from A+ ball so early..

Went to Baseball Reference to get stats on Santos...they have no minor league stats for him in 2014. Wanted to see how he was doing down there

Still, the Tigers are not a good organization with handling young prospects. None of their prospects since 2011 have panned out. And their 2010 draft has been their last good draft.. Nick Castellanos and Drew Smyly came out of that draft.. of course, Smyly is now in Tampa for 1.5 years of David Price.

How is this Tigers team going to manage when Mike Ilitch's money disappears when he passes? This could be a disaster in waiting within coming years, especially if Miguel Cabrera goes into decline, and we're already seeing it with Verlander. Heck, the fur could really fly if the Tigers miss the playoffs, which they might, as they're currently barely hanging on a wild card spot (they'd play a 1-game playoff with Seattle for the 2nd wild card as it stands.)
