ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Nolin tonight: 2.2 IP, 2H, 1ER 2BB, 5K.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 It seems to me, and my projections system, that Pompey is about to get hot. I usually don't share positive projections about the Blue Jays because of The Jinx, but this one is jinx-proof. If he has a good showing in the 2nd half, I could see him, Norris and Burns starting 2015 at AAA which would be great.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I was riding the Angel Perdomo train in the offseason. Showing some flashes. Could it be that player development is improving? Look at Norris, Labourt, Perdomo, maybe Smoral....all LHP's too! LOL, what am I saying, it can't be. Took that pic 2 years ago. Big guy is Angel Perdomo
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) Barreto tonight: 2-5 with his first HR. Pentecost: 3-5 (.429 in SSS of course). Labourt: 6IP, 3H,0ER, 2BB, 4K. Hopefully, they're aggressive with Pentecost and Barreto and promote them to Lansing to end the year. Edited July 20, 2014 by ElNik2013
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Took that pic 2 years ago. Big guy is Angel Perdomo I'm I the only one that can't see this picture? I don't have twitter either so I can't see it in the link.

You're not the only one. He's using Mexican technology so it's understandable we wouldn't be able to see it. Ang, use that Apple you were using in that pic one time.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Dwight Smith Jr is also showing improvement. Might be in line for a promotion to AA.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 He's a tall and lanky dominican. You couldn't just be a nice guy and repost the picture?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 You mean you saw him pitch in HS? It has to be since he debuted in 2013 and threw all of 25.2 IP. He's still walking batters, but is showing improvement. His K% is terrific of course which tells you the stuff is there. Long term project, risky project, but as said above, is showing some improvement. By the way, final line: 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB, 9K. Nah just saw videos of him. It was pretty clear he had no command whatsoever. Throwing at guys heads is something i despise.(Missing your spot vertically and laterally).

SJE32 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 While I agree that Pentecost and Barreto deserve a promotion, the Jays tend to value minor league playoff runs more. Promoting anybody from Vancouver to Lansing should never be thought of as being too aggressive. It's almost a side ways move. Jays would have to decide whether to promote Lugo to Dunedin.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Pompey singles and scores in his first AB. The Mendoza line has been breached, off to the races.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Justin Atkinson quietly having a good year at Lansing .321/.380/.378 showing no power but controls the strikezone well
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Sanchez with a scoreless inning in relief. AA is really serious in calling up Sanchez to pitch out the pen this year.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Sanchez with a scoreless inning in relief. AA is really serious in calling up Sanchez to pitch out the pen this year. With today's outing, he's 14IP above his 2013 total. Had he continued starting, which is what I would've preferred, he'd be closer to 105 IP and almost 20 IP above his 2013 total. I don't think there's any doubt they'll call him up to pitch out of the bullpen, we'll see if he can stick.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Sanchez pitched 109 2/3 total innings last season

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Franklin Barreto's numbers are looking super sexy He's certainly ticking off a lot of the "should I get excited about a prospect?" boxes. ~ Very good age vs. level - check. (18 yrs, 5 months in A-, where the average age is around 21 yo). ~ With a .326 AVG this year and a .296 career AVG, it looks like he has a hit tool. So 'check' that. ~ His strikeout rate isn't concerning in any way and his walk rate is decent, so the approach looks at least decent. ~ 48 of his career 109 MiLB hits have been of the extra base variety. Career MiLB ISO of nearly .200. So "pop" = check. ~ Running enough to show that he could have plus speed. ~ He's still playing all of his games at SS, which might mean something. Most scouts don't give him any chance of sticking there, but if he could stick at 2B it would mean a lot for his chances of becoming a guy. Preseason Jason Parks: 7. Franklin Barreto Position: SS DOB: 02/27/1996 Height/Weight: 5’9” 174 lbs Bats/Throws: R/R Drafted/Acquired: International free agent, 2012, Venezuela Previous Ranking: On The Rise 2013 Stats: .204/.259/.333 at rookie level Bluefield (15 games), .299/.368/.529 at complex level GCL (44 games) The Tools: 5 potential hit; 5 potential power; 6 arm; 6 run What Happened in 2013: In his professional debut, the seven-figure Latin American signing was dynamic in the Gulf Coast League and finished the season as a 17-year-old in the Appalachian League. Strengths: Plus athlete; excellent hand-eye coordination; barrels the ball at the plate; hands are extremely impressive; good strength for present body; line drive stroke; hit tool could end up being plus; power could play to average; arm is plus; run is plus; impact potential talent. Weaknesses: Still raw in all aspects on the game; reactive see-ball/hit-ball approach; will chase and lose his setup; arm is strong but wild; actions aren’t smooth at short; glove unlikely to stick at short. Overall Future Potential: High 6; first-division/all-star Realistic Role: High 4; utility player/below-average regular Risk Factor/Injury History: High risk; short-season resume Bret Sayre’s Fantasy Take: He’s forever away, but Barreto has the raw ingredients to be a strong fantasy middle infielder (assuming he stays there). In what categories that future upside materializes is yet to be determined, but he makes for an interesting flier regardless. The Year Ahead: Barreto showed off his tools—especially his ability to put his bat on the ball—in his debut, and emerged as a legit professional prospect and not just an expensive amateur signing. Huge gap between present and future, and you will be hard pressed to find a source that likes his glove enough to project him at the position to the highest level. But he has more than enough arm for third and more than enough athleticism for the outfield, so the Jays have options should a move be required in the coming years. A return trip to the Appalachian League will be in order for Barreto, and given his precocious talent, this is must-see scouting in 2014.
