HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 AA hasn't been too aggresive with september callups. Maybe the Snider fiasco is still fresh in the mind. kind of odd that they are very careful with hitters but DGAF with pitchers. Sanchez being a prime example. It's absurd that he got the call-up to AAA but to consider him in the MLB this year? I thought you were supposed to baby pitchers..
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I don't think September 2015 is all that aggressive, that's a year and a half from now. Seems pretty fair to me. He's a mid-seaon callup or he doesn't get called up at all. When was the last time the Jays started a service clock in September? It was probably Snider.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Pompey hit a dinger to dead center Nice, 2-4 today. Looks like he's starting to get adjusted to AA. Do you know what side of the plate he hit it from?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Nice, 2-4 today. Looks like he's starting to get adjusted to AA. Do you know what side of the plate he hit it from? He has more power from the left side, at least thats what Jason Parks said. Most likely as lefty

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Goins quietly putting together a nice season in Buffalo, 2-4 with a double so far tonight facing a decent lefty. No K's. He's hitting something like .260 vs lefties and .306 vs righties , 6.5% BB and a respectable 14% K rate. .289 / .328 overall as of right now. He's around the 88 wRC+ range now. I would love to see him get another shot this year and sure wouldn't mind him on our 25 man next year, unless some sick middle infielder is signed or traded for, then he'll be depth.

I'm glad he was given multiple chances, but he is OLDER than Goins and does have a decent eye at the plate. Goins deserves another shot, as he did well enough to end the season last year. Kawasaki'a milb numbers are nothing to write home about, so don't give me this 26 years old s*** like he's f***ing 35. Many players in the MLB found their stride in their late 20's, so he still has time to put it together.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Should Barreto be promoted to Lansing? I'd love to see Barreto, Castro and Pentecost earn promotions to Lansing to finish off the season.

I'd love to see Barreto, Castro and Pentecost earn promotions to Lansing to finish off the season. Meh promotions mean so little late in the season in the minors. Sometimes top prospects move to teams who will be in the playoffs but that's usually a move to replace an injured players. Most orgs tend to let the players that earned the playoff spot the starts. Vancouver has a much better shot at the playoffs than Lansing, let them finish up the job there.

Lots of notable names on here. If another team selects them do they have to be added to their 25 man roster or just 40? If it is 40 man, I bet we lose some of those guys.

Maybe, but they still both suck. agree, but remember when Goins came up last year and was hitting .400 for awhile?? That is the Kawasaki we are seeing now - no way he can maintain that. Kawasaki is an average defender who will hit under .250 with no power. Goins is a much better defender who will hit under .250 with no power. they both are not great options (yes they suck offensively) when you do not have 8 other strong hitters going.

How convenient that you phrase that as merely under .250 and yes I realize that you could argue Kawa will regress to below .250 and Goins will regresses to above .200 but why would even entertain the disussion of swapping them well while Kawa is still doing well? If they're not going to bring in someone from outside the system, the Jays should at the very least ride the hot hand for now and maybe, just maybe the Goins for Kawasaki discussion will have some validity down the line but given how overmatched Goins was this season and how decent Kawa has been, it's downright embarassing to be making the argument now. That someone other than Gruber would actually try to do so is borderline surreal.

I'm not advocating making a change right now. you can ride Kawasaki's hot streak out Sure in the long run I definitely like Goins. I love his defence. it will save runs over the course of a season, if someone had the stones to keep him there. However, like I said you can't have a no hit 2b or SS when the rest of the lineup is cold so he's not an option right now. I agree to let him have the year at AAA to get comfortable and maybe be ready one day
