Ended up going 5IP, 3H, 0BB and 7K. Great start. He's making good progress, especially after the rough start. He should be in Dunedin next year and could make it to AA if he pitches well and could move up there with Sanchez/Osuna as far as top org. prospects.

Wow that's a great line. I didn't realize Hutch was already in New Hampshire, looks like he could be ready very soon.

 

The runs were kind of BS too. Sac Fly in the 1st. In the 3rd a fielding error extended the inning, then misses turning the DP, steals home for the run. Two swinging K's in the inning.

It's really hard not to get excited about Norris. He's cut down on his walks, and is pitching further into games. I've said it before, but his results are looking an awful lot like Sanchez's did last season. In his last 44.1 IP (12 starts), his K:BB is 61:23. Arbitrary endpoint, but it seems like he's figuring it out. If he can repeat this kind of success next year, we've got a legit prospect on our hands.

 

His FIP, by the way, is 3.88 on the season, compared to his ERA, which is 5.55. After today, both have dropped.

 

I wasn't one of the guys who was down on him after a rough start. The patience is starting to pay off, it would seem.

I do wonder if they'll move him up to A+ before the season is out. I kind of think they will give him a taste, and then start him there next year.

Not sure where to put this but Arizona just put Tony Sipp on waivers. I've always liked the guy. He's 30 years old, a lefty reliever with good stuff. He put up pretty good numbers this year for the D'Backs: 3-1 3.86era 32,2ip 29h 18bb 37so (in an extreme hitting environment).

2-1 2.12era 17ip 12h 9bb 14so (on the road)

 

I know our bullpen is pretty stacked, but we might as well try to get rid of Oliver and what's left on his contract since we're not competing, and Sipp would be a solid veteran replacement.

Some trades are not working out well. But AA proved when he got here that he can turn a bottom of the road minor league system into a top of the road one. With all our pitching coming up it look like we'll be top ten again 2 years from now. If only we could develop some position players that are under 28/29 years old instead of guys like Bautista and Encarnacion.

What's the goods on Dawson? His numbers look great,although ss. What does his fastball clock at? What's his secondary stuff like? He doesn't seem to walk many and strikes out a ton of batters. He's he projected to be a legit prospect?

According to this report, he sits high 80s. I also read that he "touches" over 90, though that's pretty vague.

 

Hopefully someone else can give a more definitive answer.

He just about to turn 20, so I guess he could add a bit to his fastball, but probably not much. I still think he and Robson are someone to keep an eye on though.

Brady Dragmire pitched very well for Bluefield today: 5IP 1H 5K 3/0 GO/FO He's only 20 and has some decent numbers this year.

 

Nay is still on fire: 2-3 HR, BB

Lugo: 3-4

Dean: 1-3 2B

Davis: 1-4 2K

 

Bluefield had a 10 run inning and the game isn't over yet.

"Robson is having a great year this year and you can see the potential in a tall, lanky kid (6’4″, 200 lbs) who could add some more zip to his fastball. He’s been doing the Velocity program that has been made popular by Steve Delabar (and other Blue Jay pitchers) and definitely could fill in that frame a bit, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him touching 94 next year."

 

Good to know some of our younger prospects are doing the program.

Thanks.. He must have decent control of his pitches and changes speeds really well to be striking out that many. If he has good natural movement on his fastball,he can get away with it in the show if he can sit at 90-91 in 2-3 years. The velocity difference in his fast ball to curve and change are great,as long as his delivery is constant. Being a lefty will surely help his chances. 50 K's in 36 IP with only 8 BB and only 22 hits given up is nothing to sneeze at. At 6'1 180 lbs and almost 20 years old,he'll probably get close to 200 lbs as he matures. He's at that bubble height that all MLB scouts want their starters to be at. Have to keep an eye on this guy.

Nice to see Gose at the top of the line up again,while going 2-4 with a double and a SB. I think we see a push from him,especially with the possibility of LF being an issue next year with the Jays. If he can just hit .250 / .310 in the bigs,i'd love to see him in center with Rasmus in left.

Barreto is pretty exciting. Only 17 years old, doesn't turn 18 until February. .814 OPS as a SS. I don't know how his D is, but if he can stick at SS he'll be someone to watch.
