theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Damn sexy, though http://i.imgur.com/BWV8afk.png 6' 5" 190 18 years old. Sounds good to me
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Shane Opitz is quietly putting together a decent season at High A at a good age/level. Bit of a SSS since he was injured to start the year (seems to get hurt every year, so health might be a concern) but so far at age 21 in High A, 108 AB - .306/.369/.426 left handed MIF, listed at 6'1 180 so a chance to grow into perhaps average power. 17K, 12 walks. Over his last 10 games .344/.421/.500, 5 walks, 5 K. 3 SB with 1 CS Also nice to see perennially injured Kenny Wilson on his rehab tour. He'll be off to New Hampshire again soon.

MIF version of Pillar/Jimenez?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Not really, Opitz was drafted out of high school and he's just having a breakout season this year I wouldn't really call it a breakout until he stays healthy through the end of the year. But, despite his numbers not being sexy and having been injured every year at some point since being drafted, he's been moved up a level every year.

How the f*** does he have a 121 wRC+? I have never liked the guy. Dude just can't play SS defense imo and I didn't see huge potential in the bat. I hope I'm dead wrong.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 What do you know about his D? Is this rhetorical/sarcastic/whatever? It's too damn late for me to pick up on that If it's a legit question, I've seen him live and I can't stand his glove. His range seemed fine but I dunno if he'll be able to make plays consistently enough to stick at SS. He had 15 errors last year. Once again, I'm hoping I'm wrong. I haven't read anything on his D recently (stopped paying attention to him, admittedly wrote him off), but he's putting up some damn good numbers.

Yeah I'm actually interested because I recognized his name, but never really thought much of him. If he had a great glove than the bat would be intriguing.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 *One of those additions was 17-year-old*Miguel Castro, a Dominican righthander who signed for $180,000. Castro, who is from La Romana and trained with Eriberto Jose, is a long, skinny frame at 6-foot-5, 180 pounds with a low-90s fastball From baseball America. Repeating the DSL but still just 18.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Hey Angrioter, what can you tell us about the two Dominicans Tirado and Labourt? Everyone aboard the Miguel Castro bandwagon! Hard throwing righty currently dominating the DSL this year Miguel Castro is very thin but I liked what I saw of him this season (Repeating level). Last year struggle with the command, he wasn't fun to watch, I yelled him "throw strikes f***" couple of times, it was impossible to him throw strikes and when things got tough he tended to overthrow. This year he look calm on the mount, throws strikes, miss bats with fastball and secondary stuff but he's repeating level. Tirado : Sleeper, like him a lot Labourt : If he can throw strikes he'll be somebody. Labourt haven't good stuff but he's lefty, you always get it something good of lefties who can throw strikes.

The only thing I'd add is that even though he doesn't have "good" stuff but, he isn't a soft tosser either. Gets it over 90mph regularly with a projectable 6'4", 204lbs frame, decent looking off-speed stuff as well. I don't think any of his pitches project as plus but, he could have 3 average pitches from the left side. Could have a decent career as a #3 if he continues to grow his game.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Labourt is quite the big fellow http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7114/7619608440_b527324a19_z.jpg
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Tom Robson and Shane Dawson to Vancouver Glad to see that. Makes sense since they're Canadian.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Gose: 3-5, 2 triples and an outfield assist at home.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Makes sense since they are dominating Bluefield and deserved a promotion, lol Is Vancouver really a step up from Bluefield?
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 But the best thing about these promotions is that if they finish up strong in Vancouver, they will start next season in Lansing for full season ball Yeah Lansing should be loaded next year with those two, Tirado, Labourt, maybe DeJong or Cardona.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Yeah Lansing should be loaded next year with those two, Tirado, Labourt, maybe DeJong or Cardona. Gabryszwski should be in Lansing next season as well. He's having a great year too; 50IP, 1.98ERA, 27SO, 6BB, 4.5SO/BB, .920WHIP.

I had him as our #27 prospect, may have to move him up.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Need some suggestions from the people here at the minor leagues thread. I started doing an organizational depth chart for the bar at the top, to go along with contracts.payroll/top 30 prospects What should I include? Contracts for the MLB players or should it just be the players from top to bottom in our organization by position? Should I add a link to each players fangraphs/MILB page? Date of birth? Any ideas? Right now I have each player, the team they play for, position and fangraphs page... Yeah that sounds good. Is it organized by position or by team right now?
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 It's by position Yeah that's good
