SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Just got home, I have a full roster it seems though with Lynn holding a spot for now. Dinger is on the clock

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I'm going to take Chris Tillman to end the draft and hope he can pull a Matt Cain out of his ass.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Suck terribly? I'm pretty sure he's very capable of that. He's apparently also capable of putting up a 3.42 ERA over a 500 IP sample, from 2012-2014. He's still only 27, has decent stuff, has the most rise on his fastball of any starter in baseball with the possible exception of Chris Young. The result (when it's working) is a lot of pop-ups, which are easy outs and consequently BABIP beaters. It fell apart last year, but there could still be something useful there.

Perfect, that should give Brett Anderson and Hyun-Jin Ryu enough time to break before Montas is needed in the rotation.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Perfect, that should give Brett Anderson and Hyun-Jin Ryu enough time to break before Montas is needed in the rotation. Ryu won't even survive ST.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Ryu won't even survive ST. Pretty much everybody in that rotation with the exception of Kershaw has above average injury concerns.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Ryu won't even survive ST. Whys that
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Whys that I think BTS is being a bit sarcastic probably because Ryu missed 1/4 of 2014 and then didn't throw a single pitch last year. I'm sure Ryu will at least get 20 innings this year, he lost 20 lbs!
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Whys that Shoulder surgery is terrifying, and they're already talking about maybe not having him for opening day.

I'm sure Ryu will at least get 20 innings this year, he lost 20 lbs! Every time a clearly overweight player breaks down I wonder if they would have had the same issues if they were in shape. Ryu was probably carrying close to 50 extra pounds at his heaviest. I have no idea if that would be associated with shoulder troubles, but it can't be good.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Shoulder surgery is terrifying, and they're already talking about maybe not having him for opening day. Do you know anything about his shoulder surgery, or is it just an assumption that shoulder surgery is automatically bad?
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Do you know anything about his shoulder surgery, or is it just an assumption that shoulder surgery is automatically bad? He had a torn labrum. That's very, very bad.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Do you know anything about his shoulder surgery, or is it just an assumption that shoulder surgery is automatically bad? I have an ongoing shoulder problem and it's really affecting my dodgeball velo, so I can speak from experience. They suck and they always pop back up even months after you think you're good. I haven't had surgery, although I probably do need it since this has been an on-and-off problem for me going on 3 years now.

Three months later and he still doesn't have close to full range of motion, and his doctor recommended that he doesn't play softball this summer.

Three months later and he still doesn't have close to full range of motion, and his doctor recommended that he doesn't play softball this summer. It's weird because it doesn't really bug me at the gym, I can still press the same amount, but periodically it hurts when I lift my arm above my head, and sleeping on that shoulder can be uncomfortable. I mostly manage it with Aleve when it pops up, but there's definitely something wrong in there if it hasn't resolved completely after all this time. I don't know if I maybe have a partial tear in the labrum or the rotator cuff or what. I got a requisition for an MRI awhile ago but then it stopped bugging me for awhile so I blew it off. Smrt.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 He had a torn labrum. That's very, very bad. He's had that since before he signed with the Dodgers and they knew about it. The reason he got surgery is that he was just feeling irritation more often, with no real change in terms of structure damage. It's a very small tear. You probably should look at things more closely.

Ok, in that case I'm sure the fat 29-year old who has thrown 350 innings in 3 years and just had labrum surgery is about to become a reliable rotation fixture.

How many Ryu shares do you have?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Remember when I traded Grandal to Min for Ryu and everyone was like LOL DINGER RAPED!!!!!! Fond memories.

I'm going on 3 years of general irritation and shoulder pain from a torn rotator cuff...which is a nothing injury in comparison. My velocity was down 10 MPH at the Ex baseball "guess your speed" game this year too. Based on this alone I think everyone who has pitchers with shoulder injuries should just drop them now.
tafkasg Verified Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Shoulder injuries scare the f*** out of me, even deGrom's tiny little stiffness or whatever a couple years back was a constant source of worry. It can certainly blow up in your face though, I jumped ship on Jaime the second it resurfaced last year and he was a goddamn pimp.

Yeah, I had two shares of Pineda and dumped them after waiting so long. I still want him to re-break.

When I tore up my shoulder, I would get significant amounts of pain from simple things like pushing open a door or raising my arm above my head, but no pain from most other motions. That lasted for about 2 years or so after injury.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 How many Ryu shares do you have? Just one. But I recently took on that share and don't regret it.

That's a far cry from "he won't make it through ST" The bottom line is that this isn't a new injury and he was really good still while pitching with it. Of course he could explode but I don't see it as particularly likely.
