Laika Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Gattis wasn't even a garbage pitch framer. 2013 - above average, 2014 - basically average (statcorner). The Astros should seriously consider making him a part time C again in 2016, with Castro and Conger both projecting for an 89 wRC+. Free up that DH spot for CCC, AJ Reed, Preston Tucker, off days for Springer, etc. Gattis won't project for a strong enough wOBA to accrue much WARz as a full time DH. Or just trade Gattis to Seattle so they can trot him out in an OF corner for 150 horrendous games.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Ouch... well at least you still have Archer here, bro. I guess, that hurt. Hah, he just went yard again!
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Nah, I'd say probably between 25-50%. He will certainly be on the trade block this offseason, I may move him as part of a larger deal to a younger team that could use an OF power bat. It wouldn't take much of a hot streak to get Gattis to ~30 HR and a .330 wOBA tho. That's a pretty reasonable bench bat for a contender, so I have no problem keeping him. I can't help but feel he's going to be your Allen Craig this offseason? You're going to shove him down our throats until someone gets so tired of hearing his name, caves, and actually gives you something for him.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I think what really annoys me is when people mistakenly label Gattis as a high K guy. He's a hacker, yes, but not a whiffer. He's Trumbo. He'll slaughter any teams OBP that he's on.

TRM Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Giving Colby Lewis the night off today. Enjoy, Colby!
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Another nice night for Choo, who's been a borderline top-200 player in our format this year. Would really like to move him for a similarly valuable pitcher.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Wow how bad has Hanley been? Like -1.3 fWar for a guy making 20 million.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Wow how bad has Hanley been? Like -1.3 fWar for a guy making 20 million. He has a 19 wRC+ in the second half of the season too. Yeah, that number isn't missing a digit either.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Hanley moving to 1B next year? FGDC has him as a 114 wRC+ COF next year, and then probably like a 110 wRC+ 1B in 2017. His value has been tanked.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 In 2014 Hanley had a 135 wRC+ and was a -15 UZR/150 defender at SS. 3.3 fWAR. At 31, and with a 190 wRC+ in 86 2013 games, his bat should have held steady, for the most part. Hypothetically, according to the defensive spectrum and Saber dogmatism, a -15 shortstop should be a neutral zero run left fielder. Perhaps a good scout could have foreseen him turning into a -30 run LF, based on his body and some of his eccentricities, but it seems pretty random to me that he's that bad. He's handled shortstop for most of his career and while he has never been good he's always been a viable player there considering how well he hits. Him in LF making Mark Trumbo look like Alex Gordon is pretty f***ing crazy random. The offensive decline probably has something to do with the stress of sucking in the OF and being preoccupied with trying to figure that side of the game out. It was a weird f***ing signing from multiple angles though. Why pay such a big ticket price to a career SS and then plop him in your wonky LF, when your team already has a s*** ton of OF depth?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 He plays LF like you'd expect a guy from beer league 3-pitch to play LF. It's remarkable how bad he is given that he's spent the last decade as an MLB shortstop.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Cautionary tale to the team that one day decides to move Jose Reyes off of SS.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Obligatory reminder that I turned Hanley into Cueto, AJ Pollock and Pat Neshek.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Depends who else you have
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Depends who else you have Keuchel Lester Richards Kennedy Shoemaker Fister Locke Rea A rotation in shambles.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I wouldn't say that's a shambles. The top 3 is quite good, good enough to head a competitive rotation.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Puig hurt again, probably another DL stint for the hammy. TRM you will regret rejecting that trade.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Puig hurt again, probably another DL stint for the hammy. TRM you will regret rejecting that trade. Which trade
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I offered him an OF who's actually good, straight up.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Keuchel Lester Richards Kennedy Shoemaker Fister Locke Rea A rotation in shambles. Well obviously you need to keep Shoe. Someone like me might not, however.
