Laika Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 I should have made that trade. McCarthy got hammered. Funny, second time you've said this to me within the the last week or two. I thought McCarthy was enough of an ERA putz that you'd accept it, even if you didn't really like the two guys I was offering. But at this point, if you offered the same deal to me, I'd probably have to decline based on the evolving available information.

My roster is about to get crowded with farm promotions.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Broken thumb for Brandon Belt. This season has been a nightmare. My guys have been dropping like flies all year. Need a bat to replace him? Heard the king was available
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Nah. Mark Reynolds has this. Never trust a guy that has the last name Reynolds.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 This seems like the type of advice that really shouldn't go ignored. I know! He told me it was fine to pick up the soap... But it wasn't...
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Missed the position, but the curse lives! I said Belt would get hit by a bus before Braun got injured, so it just took time. Now for saying this, one of your guys will get injured. Then BTS will make a snide remark, and he will lose someone. The cycle will go on and on. If you guys don't reach an agreement soon, you'll both be getting 14-0'd by Boxy.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Who's had more DL stints between us? I'm at: Robertson Iwakuma Fister Ramos Braun Trumbo Cobb Belt Your move. Better now than in the playoffs. Your team hasnt even missed a beat.

I'll probably just drop him at some point but dropping him to move prospects forward and dropping him for other projects is probably a wash anyways. I'm realizing that the challenge of doing a full on rebuild in this setup is that it's just not designed to allow you to hoard young players. It's easy to say, I'll just pick up a bunch of guys in case they turn out but you also need to graduate prospects to make room for new ones and after awhile you start running out of room especially if you feel a certain obligation to at least field an actual roster every week and not just punt slots. I'm down to only three bench slots that aren't occupied by DL or N/A and I have two farm players in the majors (Flores, Ramirez) who I should activate at the draft at the latest. I have one farm guy I'll probably have to cut (Fulmer) and one guy I'll either have to activate or cut (Nicolino). That would leave me with my best 6 prospects still in the farm. I fell like my really good prospects should be kept in the farm even if some are technically eligible for promotion. I have 6 picks to work with at the draft. A guy like McCarthy is basically just fighting for a job a this point. Edited May 10, 2014 by KingKat

I guess that's the advantage of having a terrible farm.

And more importantly, there's an expectation in this league that everyone fields a full MLB lineup (starters at nearly every position, 3/4+ SP, a few RP, at the very least). Rebuilds can be difficult in this format, for sure. Everyone rebuilding should have learned from Boxy's mistakes. Cycling down for younger core pieces currently in the majors is the way to go, like you did with the A Gon trade. Really, you can only afford a couple of trades for bulk MiLB assets, and then you're full up.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 How about Spanky in a playoff position? I believe I was the only one who had him Top 10 in my pre-season PR.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 How about Spanky in a playoff position? I believe I was the only one who had him Top 10 in my pre-season PR. I remember I laughed when I saw you had him so high. To be fair though, you did weight some of that on his minor league roster. I actually had him as a bottom 5 team though I can't believe how good his team has been.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I'm pissed I didn't take C.J. Cron in the waiver draft. I was eyeing him around pick 50 but gambled thinking he would be there at 80-100.

He'll probably have to cash in some of those chips if he wants to make a deep run this year, he could use some IF and rotation help.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 At least you didn't draft him then drop him, Blackmon-boy. f***! I hate everything. Wow.. can we take a league vote and swap King in for this noob?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Yeah, a lot of that ranking was based on the strong farm (Walker, Gray, Sanchez, Almora). He'll probably have to cash in some of those chips if he wants to make a deep run this year, he could use some IF and rotation help. He definitely needs another arm or two. Verlander and Hudson are both solid. Alvarez might maintain decent ratios but you need more than 3-4 guys to compete with some of the best staffs. The good news is he can promote Walker and will have Holland coming back later on in the season. A couple trades and I'll be a Spanky believer.

We've seen swaps like Glasnow --> Lester, Fried --> Kennedy. Sanchez could fetch a similar 28-31 year old arm. No one too special, but someone who can add to your counting stats without crippling your ratios. A move like that would be great for Spanky's rotation.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Any chance you could stop posting words? My poor blood pressure. Lol refresh my memory on that one. Did you own one of those two at one point?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 My poor blood pressure. I'll never talk about any of those players again. The last thing I want to see is you lose your mind like many investors did on the famous Black Monday of 1987.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Didn't own either, but I did love that trade for BTS the second it was announced. Oh yeah that makes sense. That one was painful for me because I was in on Lester as well. Screw BTS and his slick moves.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Dee Gordon with another 3 swipes today, on pace for 102. #therealbillyhamilton
