jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Oh this sounds scary. Since I've traded V-Mart, he's been one of the best hitters in the game. It seems like he's hitting a HR every game. And Beltran might need surgery on his elbow ugh. And Napoli as my DH has been ice cold; and Ian Kennedy has been like unhittable. Nobody offered me anything great for V-Mart at all when I had him on the block. I'd still do that swap of V-Mart for Beltran at the time when I did though; however I'm greatly regretting it especially if Beltran lands himself on the DL.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I like targeting post-hype starting pitchers; some guys just take longer to adjust to the big leagues. Good luck with Pomeranz! I tried that with Franklin Morales a couple of weeks ago and now with Jake Arrieta.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I offered you Howie Kendrick for Garza a while ago, which was more than fair and I'd still be willing to consider it. If you still think Garza is worth far more than Kendrick, then meh. sent you a PM
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I very much appreciate this experiment. His K/BB ratio was awful yesterday though at least he didn't harm my ERA category. I'll likely run with him until someone like Cingrini comes off the DL. Phil Hughes has been pitching quite well recently. I really need a contribution from him if I expect to compete.

Yeah I think it was a good trade at the time. I don't know about a dynasty league but I have Beltran in the MPL and I honestly never once thought I should take the money and run on him. Thought he would have great season in the new stadium. When someone tumbles like that it's natural to question in hindsight but always good to be honest with ones self:)

When someone tumbles like that it's natural to question in hindsight but always good to be honest with ones self:) Yeah Beltran and V-Mart are almost exactly the same age, and I needed the OF help, since I had Tex/V-Mart/Napoli rotating at DH and at 1B when Freeman wasn't playing. I figured hold onto Tex since he's younger than V-Mart and I haven't been disappointed in Tex this season.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I rode Arrieta for a while last year, picked him up after he moved to the Cubs. He had a decent initial stretch in Chicago.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 I have a spare bat or two at this point and I could really use a solid SP. Who's selling? Outfielders, Hart, and Olt are available. All picks including 1st rounders available. Willing to move my top prospects for big additions.

I think Garza is easily > than Kendrick FWIW (not much, I guess) I think you should be able to get someone much better, Kendrick isn't really an above average option in any category.

He's the 33rd ranked player in Yahoo. He'd be the best player on your team right now.

I know my team is bad you don't have to keep throwing it out there like it means something. I can evaluate players just fine, and I applaud you for trying to sell high. I didn't know we weren't allowed to comment on public trade offers, or at least achieve a certain win threshold before doing so.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Listened to a great Fantasy Baseball show on XM about exploiting the guys who chase the indicators (specifically K/BB ratio in this conversation). I know in many of our pools here it's a stat category but I realized I am that guy in my big cash pool. Trying to trade for CC (just before he went on the DL...luckily it has some terrible trading rules involving stall value and I couldn't make it work) and working on several deals to trade a $1 Tony Cigrani to the last place team.

I'm talking about performance thus far. I'm sure every poster has already made Boxy team references in this thread for all good fun. Your an easy target.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I chose Dee over Kendrick... this is either going to go really good, or REEEEAAAALLLLLY bad.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Garza's turning 31, is pitching in a launching pad for the foreseeable future and has had injury issues the past few seasons. He's really nothing special

Wow for someone who was selling Garza at a steep price a couple of weeks ago, that's a huge drop. Kendrick is a much safer bet moving forward than Dee.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Garza's turning 31, is pitching in a launching pad for the foreseeable future and has had injury issues the past few seasons. He's really nothing special I offered him Kendrick a couple of weeks ago straight up; even offered him a modest draft pick upgrade where he got a pick in the 40's and I'd get a pick in the 70s, and he wouldn't budge. Right now I was considering it, but likely wouldn't have done it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I chose Dee over Kendrick... this is either going to go really good, or REEEEAAAALLLLLY bad. I likely wouldn't have done Kendrick for Garza now straight up anyways, would have wanted a pick swap. You should have pulled the trigger when I offered you the deal a couple of weeks ago.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Good to hear you wouldn't have done it, now I can not sweat the decision . I have been trying to trade Garza for a while now and I didn't like any of my offers. It seems you had the market right when you said Kendrick was good value. I took the gamble on Dee because he has the potential to be an impact producer in the SB category. Kendrick is way more consistent, but isn't an impact guy in any category. I guess Dee has age on his side too. I guess we'll see what happens.

I prefer him to Kendrick although I would have probably taken either for Garza.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Hard to shake that mostly unwarranted feeling with Garza that his entire arm is going to fall off at the shoulder in the not too distant future. How about league juggernauts Dinger and FTD getting SB king Dee Gordon and the new Trout Charlie Blackmon for free this year? You cellar dwellers pleased about that?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 It's good to finally have a mostly healthy pitching staff. Currently rocking a 29/0 K/BB. Nice! With Iwakuma back at 100% your pitching staff is really something. I'm at 16/0 currently. I like how Yahoo considers an infinite K/BB to be equivalent to zero. I wonder if they'd evaluate it that way if you finished the week at infinity.

Once you have over inning minimum it should be considered a win. I had an infinite K/BB last year in a league and it counted as a win.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Garza has been getting lit up lately, and there's the injury risk, but everything looks good under the hood (velo, SwStr, FIP). I need some depth to help offset the loss of Fernandez. Dee was a nice contributor for me, but I would be surprised if he does much better than .260/.315/.350 ROS. He could definitely steal 60 bases if given 500 ABs, but his platoon splits aren't good and Guerrero probably cuts into his playing time at some point. Hopefully the trade works out for both of us, or at least neither of us.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Speaking of timely trash heap pickups, Bronson Arroyo has been dynamite for me over his last 4: 29.2 IP, 3.8 K/BB, 0.91 ERA/2.32 FIP

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 BTS I was considering sending you an offer we had previously talked about a couple weeks ago, but I didn't know if you were still shopping an SP.
