Silvergun already had a heavy favourite, I needed to tend to the future of my core bats. I kind of see this as trading Lester for Torres and Devers, I think Dahl is going to be Cespedes' equal almost immediately.

I'd say I likely lost the trade in a net value sense, but I'm OK with that.

 

I like Dahl a lot, but speaking from experience Col bats are kind of a pain in the ass in h2h, lefty bats are the same, and lefty Col bats are just a f***ing hassle (especially with a bad draw in a playoff week.)

 

Of course, Cespedes probably doesn't keep CF beyond this year and might fall off a cliff soon.

 

Lol are you serious? You got an ace, a top 50 bat and half a season of an elite closer for maybe one impact piece. If all the players you traded turn out to be average, and that's a very unlikely scenario, you still end up winning this trade big time.

Well they project for nearly identical AVG and OBP.

 

Dahl is more 15/20 while Cespedes is more 25/5 + better R and RBI.

 

I mean with Cespedes' age and quad injury stuff last year, it's very conceivable that Dahl can wRC+ 100 in Coors and easily out-value Yoenis immediately. I don't think it's likely but it's within the realm of possibility.

 

Devers I've always hated but I guess if you squint your nose he smells like Mazara or something like that - just one of those young guys who has all the talent but doesn't OPS a million because he's like 18 years old.

 

I hate both of these owners making this trade so I hope all the players involved DIAF.

I think Dahl is going to be a better hitter than Blackmon and ride Coors to fantasy gold. I think its more like 20/30, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him on par with guys like Starling Marte and Christian Yelich this year.

I'm a big Dahl fan, but lets not pretend he doesn't have warts. Guy recent success is all driven by a .350+ BABIP. Its also possible he has a real issue with K's.

 

I'm going to cheer for him, because I like him as a player. But Cespedes is a pretty clearly better OF IMHO

Yeah well I think we all agree on that, otherwise silvergun wouldn't have included two Top 10 prospects in addition to him. I don't think there's any question that this trade is leveraged toward SG in the 1-2 year outlook, that's all baked in to the negotiation. I look more at Dahl's AA numbers this year than his MLB numbers, and I see more walk and power potential than he even flashed in his debut. You might all be shocked if he goes 20/20 with an .800 OPS and 100 R this year, but I won't be. He went 25/22 across three levels last year with an outstanding line, and now he gets the Coors bump. When it comes to Rockies players, I care about the wOBA, not the wRC+. On a per game basis he was 2015 Mookie Betts.

Biggest trape/headscratcher was Correa by far IMO. I think most of those trades are very sensible from contention cycle perspectives.

I love him too, but he was pretty lucky on LOB and BABIP last year. If I waited another year, with age and regression, I wouldn't get anything close to Torres + Devers for him. Maybe. Or maybe he'll just be a boss into his late 30s!

Well I wouldn't have done it straight up anyway, but I too was surprised, considering he has Seager already. A chance to steal an ace from your biggest division rival for a prospect you don't need, that's something I wouldn't pass up.
