BTS Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 I think it's time to forget about Greg Bird. It is Tyler Austin's time to shine.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Can you please stop hurting my feelings Sorry, my bad. At least Triston McKenzie isn't having forearm problems.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Sorry, my bad. At least Triston McKenzie isn't having forearm problems. Dinger, I thought we were pals. How about we talk about how bonkers Jose Berrios has been this year! Almost as good as Pat Corbin who I was like a pubic hair away from acquiring. Sorry for continuously bringing it up, I'm salty as f*** that I didn't push it.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Dinger, I thought we were pals. We are, which is why I'm offering you this once in a franchise-lifetime opportunity to trade me Triston MacKenzie for Christian Villanueva and his MLB-leading .513 wOBA. You scoff now, but we are watching the next Donaldson breakout, and MacKenzie will be dick deep in TJS rehab in a couple months. I don't want to bookmark this post, but I will.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Sheeeeeeit... I swore I swapped out Frazier for Bruce... I'm dumn!
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Someone trade me a good SS. I have a pretty stacked farm which I'm willing to trade from.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I've got A shortstop for trade (Nunez)...
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I could be persuaded to part with Aledmys Diaz.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Someone trade me a good SS. I have a pretty stacked farm which I'm willing to trade from. Could maybe possibly move the #1 ranked player, Sir Didi Gregorius, for the right package. Or the handsome Swanson; he was an ugly duckling last year, but turned into a beautiful swan.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Would entertain offers for 2018 breakout candidate Tim Anderson.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I would like a late 1st round pick for closer-with-good-ratios Hunter Strickland. Willing to include pick 44 and/or Rowdy Tellez as sweetener.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 From this article on Strickland's player page about who would hate robot umps: Former Cubs (and Marlins and Padres) catcher John Baker tried to imagine what the game would look like for the catcher, as well. “Guys wouldn’t even have to catch balls unless there was two strikes or someone on base,” he thought. “Every game could start with the catcher leaning up against the back stop.” I never considered that. With no one on, catchers can just take the stress off their knees and just not catch the ball. A large reason why I dislike the auto intentional walk is because I just find it...weird and awkward. How weird and awkward would it be to just see a pitcher throwing to no one? Maybe they'd have to change the rule so that the ball must be caught to confirm a strike, I suppose, but robo umps sound ideal until you dig a bit and determine it isn't as clear cut as it seems.

Just make the catcher stay within the box like the batter I guess. Pitchers wouldn't like seeing their pitches bouncing and flying all over anyway, I suspect.

The pitcher still needs a target though, plus someone to call the pitches. The latter I suppose could be replaced by an ear piece or the pitcher throwing whatever they want but that sounds pretty f***ing stupid lol. It's really hard to aim at nothing, so I don't think the catcher's position would change at all, the catchers could just put themselves in a much more comfortable position like sitting up by their knees rather than a straight crouch. They still have to catch the ball when someone's on base and when a hitter has 3 balls or 2 strikes with no one on, so I don't think this is something fundamental to consider or anything. Also the ball still has to get back to the pitcher, and it's much faster if the catcher is receiving and tossing back in their current state than sitting behind the backstop or something dumn like that. Foul balls are also a thing, that's why catchers are assigned to their circle and can't just stand wherever they want.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 also, the umps are still important for a variety of other things like calling foul tips, HBP, fouls in the batters box, check swings, out-safe at the plate, etc, etc. Nothing at all will change here. The umps will wear ear-pieces and that's about it in my estimation.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Losing Thames for 6-8w suuuuuuuux Yeah, good luck making due with only Jose Abreu and Rhys Hoskins to hold down the fort. SHUT THE f*** UP
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Losing Thames for 6-8w suuuuuuuux Damn It. I was just debating picking up Aguilar this morning.
