You're acting like I'm about to trade him for picks. You're aware I have no CF now, right? and my pitching sucks. I'm at 3 offers now, and I am pleasantly surprised that not a single one is trying to lowball me.

I just think Aledmys Diaz' positional eligibility is a bad rationale for trading your franchise cornerstone. Godspeed.

And if I get another, similarly skilled franchise cornerstone at a different position?

MASSIVE news for recipients of the Jose Fernandez death compensation in this league and others - Otani to be posted after the 2017 season.

What a development. The compensation package that was so speculative just grew in value by a lot.

In the Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time the Great Deku dies in the intro and it's the most sad but then later in the game there is a scene where an awesome baby Great Deku tree has sprouted up in his roots. This is what this feels like to me right now.

Or not... :(

Ohtani may not decide to move to MLB until after the 2019 season when he can become a free agent due to changes in the new collective-bargaining agreement that restrict MLB teams' spending on international free agents under age 25, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis: Ohtani is arguably the top prospect in the world as he not only throws 102 mph and had a 1.86 ERA last season, but also hit 22 home runs with a 1.004 OPS as a DH for the Nippon Ham Fighters. Nippon said before the new CBA it had planned to post Ohtani after the 2017 season so he could move to MLB, but the changes cloud that outlook. If Ohtani were to move to MLB via the posting system, he'd be limited to about a $5 million or less annual contract under the new rules rather than the perhaps $20 million or more annual deal he'd get as a free agent. MLB and NPB negotiate their posting agreement each season, so it's possible some rules could change. If not, we may not see the 22-year old Ohtani decide to move to MLB until he turns 25.

It feels to me like he has an agreement to get posted whenever he wants, in exchange for signing with the Ham Fighters originally. He'd still probably be better off getting posted, just having the initial contract only cover the years until he reaches arbitration. It's not as tasty an outcome for him, but he probably still makes more (or at least similar) by getting posted assuming he's as good as advertised.

He'd absolutely make more. His MLB deal, while neutered, would be more than his JAPANESE! contract. And hit free agency hella young, and if good and healthy get like $300M.

I think he'd make more by waiting the extra couple years. He'd be able to negotiate with the whole league. He then probably signs a contract which has a clause in that prevents the team signing him to offer arbitration.

The risk that the 2019 CBA still f***s over internationals is huge though. If owners wanted it this time they'll want it next time, and they'll already have it so why give it up?

The CBA will still be the same in 2019 as it is next year won't it?

Is it even still the same rules for the Japanese dudes as all the rest of the international FAs? Because to me it doesn't make sense, if the team has to give up a posting fee why should they also get penalized on the contract amount signed?

Wanted to throw an idea out for the new trade block tab on the Google sheet. Boxy and BTS changed their link to a named hyperlink (=HYPERLINK("link address here","Trade Block"). Good idea, pretty's it up instead of some rando web address.

Got me thinking, do we need a column for the link, or do we just make the Organization name the link with the text of the hyperlink the team name (which is referenced from the 'Teams' tab in case of team name change). I did this so everyone could see how they like it, easy to change back if people don't.

That got me thinking again, do we even need another tab on the spreadsheet, or do I just change the team names on the 'Prospects & Picks' tabs and the 'Rosters' tabs to be the link to the trade blocks? Only information lost is how recently the block was update, which is information that really should be on the individual trade sheets themselves. The way we have it set up now, an admin would have to update the 'last modified' cell for those who don't have editing access to the doc.

I edited my name in the prospects & roster tabs to a hyperlink, so people can see what it would look/function like.

Let me know what you all think.

Let's just leave it as a tab for a bit so it's obvious to everyone and we can collect links. We only have 6/20 trade blocks so lots of people haven't even gotten the news.

Once we get 20/20 we can streamline like that and remove redundant s***

BBDL uses a row under the organization name for trade blocks to be hyperlinked. Not everyone uses them, but it's simple and effective.

The WAR Pigs would never have suspended him. We fully support personal choices regarding cannabis.

Dallas Keuchel and Asdrubal Cabrera to GD for Yadier Alvarez, Jharel Cotton, and Robert Gsellman

Sure... you're retooling though.

It was close last year: 4.5 games. I've downgraded by replacing Cabrera with Tim Anderson and Keuchel with Gsellman and Cotton, and you've downgraded by losing Ortiz. I think we're still close enough to make a $20 bet fair.

If people could stop snaking my guys with last second deals that'd be neat.

Still, another good move by BTS.

Ha, I didn't know GD was working a deal with you. I just happened to message him out of the blue at like midnight last night.

Keuchel is slightly superior to who he was offering, lol. I think SG and I will still get somethin' somethin' done though. I know how much he wants my low-minors slugging 1Bs.

Not thrilled I had to deal Yadier but I think it was a fair price. Now all I have to do is hope Keuchel doesn't turn into Jared Weaver and get me fired yay

I have one more SP than I want to protect, and would like to move one (likely Gio, Chen, Wright, Kennedy, or Gsellman) in a deal for an improvement on Kendrick or Valbuena at 2B or 3B, or for a 1B. I have picks/prospects to facilitate a deal.

I also have two of Bedrosian/Baez/Rivero/Givens/Ziegler/Biagini available for waiver or MiLB upgrades (or as additions to a bigger deal).
