KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Nik took really great IRL catcher Robinson Chirinos and I took Kyle Blanks. ISO Horny up.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Anybody interested in MiLB 59 + waiver pick 99 for an upcoming pick?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Anybody interested in MiLB 59 + waiver pick 99 for an upcoming pick? I'd give you 93 but I feel like someone higher than me should be all over this.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I'd give you 93 but I feel like someone higher than me should be all over this. I offered speedy the same deal but if he doesn't take it, you're on.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 For dinger to confirm: waiver pick 90 for waiver pick 99 + MiLB 59
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I confirm. This pick is currently on the clock, yes?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Interested to see who Dinger picks here. He could use another SS eligible player or a SP but I suspect if he's moving up it's to snatch a reliever.

I just want to confirm that I'm OTC before I blurt my pick out.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Wonderful deal for Speedy.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I confirm. This pick is currently on the clock, yes? Yes sir, go ahead
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Wonderful deal for Speedy. Agreed, it seems like a ludicrous overpay on its face. But late last night I realized that Willson Contreras is eligible, so that's who I'm taking. If I had realized it sooner, I probably would have taken him in the 1st round. I knew he was available the whole time. I guess I shrugged him off too easily.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Nice pick Dinger, if you have the NA slot he could contribute as early as next year
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I'll take Ryan Weber and hope he can win the 5th spot over the scrubtastic William Perez
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Well now I feel like an idiot.

But late last night I realized that Willson Contreras is eligible, so that's who I'm taking. If I had realized it sooner, I probably would have taken him in the 1st round. I had him flagged for my last pick. Didn't figure he'd play much this year. And he probably wouldn't be a keeper.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Interesting. I knew he was available the whole time. I guess I shrugged him off too easily. I think he landed at 50 for MLB and 57 for BP, or vice versa. He'll probably be in AAA all year, but he could be a big trade chip to them which could open up a path to playing time. I figure, as a prospect, he's better than what I could get with that MiLB pick. The only problem will be making room for him on my 20 next year if he doesn't debut, but I figure he'll make that decision for me.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I had him flagged for my last pick. Didn't figure he'd play much this year. And he probably wouldn't be a keeper. All it really takes is Montero getting hurt or sucking, the Cubs are apparently very very high on Contreras.

Yeah I figure he was a complete non factor this year and just moved on but he has more prospect hype than I realized. I should have investigated more closely.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I had him flagged for my last pick. Didn't figure he'd play much this year. And he probably wouldn't be a keeper. I don't expect him to play at all this year but I have nobody ticketed for my NA slots, so I'll just stash him there and monitor his progress. If he reverts to mediocrity this year he's an easy cut with no big loss.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 All it really takes is Montero getting hurt or sucking, the Cubs are apparently very very high on Contreras. I thought he was more of a defensive catcher than a hitting catcher. Similar to Hedges.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 f***. Very shrewd, Dinger. It's weird that he's in the database.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I thought he was more of a defensive catcher than a hitting catcher. Similar to Hedges. Not at all, if anything he's the opposite. He's a former infielder who's really just coming into his own as a catcher, defensively, but he showed a marked improvement in his approach this year and won the batting title in his league while posting a sick K/BB.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 All it really takes is Montero getting hurt or sucking, the Cubs are apparently very very high on Contreras. Yeah I wish I had know this. He just came to my attention through my spreadsheet and I looked into him briefly, figured he wouldn't make an offensive impact this year and moved on. He was on my watch list but since I don't follow scouting reports at all, I didn't prioritize him. Damn, this isn't the first time you've scooped me on players that make more sense for my team.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 f***. Very shrewd, Dinger. It's weird that he's in the database. They announced with great fanfare that they would have more player in the database this year but instead if just feels more arbitrary than usual. There are several players with a pretty clear path that are missing and many without any real chance that are there.

There aren't many prospects that are even eligible to get taken in our Waiver Draft, they really have to be pop-up guys who make AA but emerged too late in the year to get taken in the prospect draft.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 This is frustrating. I did a lot of work cross-checking the top minor leaguers with the Yahoo! database and our ownership spreadsheet and then didn't do enough with that information. I'm like the GM who doesn't listen to his analytic team except that were the same person.

Am I wrong that Knapp fits that description to a T? He's not there.
