Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'm still very surprised a rebuilding team didn't take a run at him. My theory is that a couple rebuilding teams were unaware he was dropped. It's easy to overlook a drop if you don't check the transactions for a couple days. I personally wasn't even aware he was dropped (though it wouldn't have mattered since I'm 20th on the waiver wire). Others are probably holding onto their high waiver claim in case an international free agent is signed over the course of the season. I'm using #1 on Diaz.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I ended up with another Dynasty pool It was supposed to be 18 teams. 4 dropped out just before the draft. It was put together in 5 days with no input from anyone who has been in a dynasty league before so it was oddly run and still doesn't have a set of rules really. It's a 6x6 roto pool with 9 hitters (one at each position and one utility), 6 starters and 4 relievers, 10 bench spots (weekly roster moves not daily so there won't be streaming pitchers) and 8 minor leaguers. The interesting thing was that the minor leaguers were all in the draft...I had no idea when to take one. I knew the pitching pool wouldn't be deep with only 14 teams. So I went with hitters for 10 rounds. I imagine when I look at other teams I'll like theirs too but I like this team. TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Did you do your yearly draft? Or is that one hockey? Where you go back home to the the Senaturd area? Auction keeper league. It's both hockey and baseball. First time in 21 years of the pool that it's not going to be a live draft as we couldn't get a date. It's next Sunday online. I might post about my keepers in that league still though as I think my plan might be flawed.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Would love some opinions on this: League Rules 32 players. $320 budget, 12 teams, standard 5x5 roto. 2 catchers, 5 middles (must be 1 SS, 1 2B), 5 corners (1B and a 3B), 7 OF, 8 SP, 3 RP, 3 any pitcher. All players count towards stats (no bench). Moves are once a week on Sundays. 17 keepers. After my 17 keepers I have two must activate minor league players which are Puig and Rendon who get activated at $2.50. This year there are a bunch of big budget players that are forced to go back or will go back. Highest player in the history of the pool is $61...highest last year was Tulo (me) for $53.50. Pitchers go for much less than hitters as the pool isn't all that deep (max of 132 starters). 1 Encarnacion $13.50 2 Gyorko $5.50 3 Seager $10.50 4 Miller $0.50 5 Belt $9.00 6 Carpenter $0.50 7 Martin $0.50 8 Wright $27.00 9 Kluber $0.50 10 Archer $0.50 11 Fernandez $6.50 12 Rosenthal $2.50 13 Miley $6.00 14 Wood $1.50 15 Balfour $5.50 16 Frieri $8.50 17 Leake $5.00 Total $103.50 Activations after keeper list Puig $2.50 Rendon $2.50 $108.50 Options Gennett $0.50 Leake $5.00 Harrison $5.00 Braun $41.00 Tulo $54.00 Fowler $32.00 Ackley $7.50 Longoria $51.50 Holliday $29.00 Mauer $24.50 Arcia $2.00 Bradley $0.50 From what I know I'll be going in with the most money to spend...by over $100 on several players. So if I can't get Miggy (I get the first throw and will be throwing him right away), I'll get Longo for the same as what I could keep him for. Braun is highly disliked in this circle, he'll go undervalued. There are about 4 or 5 of my keepers I can live without and I could trade for Cliff Lee ($25) but he's not tradeable by league rules as he's in the last year of his contract. Is there anyone on my list not being kept that you think I should be keeping.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'd probably keep Mauer, since he should qualify at C but get full playing time.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 14 team league let you get CarGo and Braun? Lol gravy 6 teams took pitchers and one took Bogaerts. I picked 8th and 20...Braun just kept slipping (Puig, Kipnis, Santana all went in front of him).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'd probably keep Mauer, since he should qualify at C but get full playing time. I thought about that but people thought I was crazy for keeping Mauer at $19.50 last year. There are 10 catchers being kept at least including all the top ones...but still no one seems to spend on Mauer. I still might keep him and dump Leake or a reliever.

He probably isn't worth that much, but it depends on what else you can get and whether it can be better spent other ways.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 This is what I figured happened when I thought of your team. I know Boxy would have held on to the #1 waiver slot. I think jaysfever might have missed it, because 5th on the waiver wire might not offer a better piece this season. Since you're 17th, I knew you would have put a claim in if you saw it. Call me when you decide you can't roster him anymore.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 No he was serious and got him for 5. This league was $360 buy in and there were only 3 guys with laptops out of ten. So much paper flipping. They all paid for services too or had magazines. One guy was using a magazine from 2011. He also really wanted Billy Burns and I had to tell him he was traded to Oak (NL only league) and was not eligible since no other guy knew who it was. Talk about chummy waters for a shark.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Who the f*** is Billy Burns? Pretty good apparently lol http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa455326&position=OF
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I have an offline keeper auction draft next weekend, one of my IRL friends invited me into it. A few of the owners fancy themselves to be 'experts.' The scoring is 7x5, to avoid some sort of strategy they're convinced will take over the league. I don't think I've ever seen a league w/o an equal split of categories. Should be interesting lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Not owned in DDL? A slower but better hitting Billy Hamilton. That was a hell of a pickup by Beane
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 That was a hell of a pickup by Beane He just likes him because his name is Billy B.... or would that make him less likely to like him... not sure.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 He will be 24 already but I'm surprised he doesn't get more fantasy hype for his AVG and SB. OBP looks good in the minors too (although its hard to tell if that nose-dives at higher levels with the sub .400 SLG). And you always gotta love guys with K:BB's of below 1.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 He will be 24 already but I'm surprised he doesn't get more fantasy hype for his AVG and SB. He may play 10 years in the majors and never hit a home run too lol. He also puts up disturbingly few doubles. I considered taking him in the BBDL, but wasn't sure his bat would contribute enough to be worth it.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 NP/will never be fantasy relevant.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 45+ SB and .270 AVG is always relevant. I agree, although I'm not sure what that has to do with the org guy in question.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Anyone interested in McLouth for a pick? He was a decent source for steal last year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Whatever he's offering for Doolittle/Santos, I'll double it.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Whatever he's offering for Doolittle/Santos, I'll double it. ok, two Noah Syndergaards for Santos. Deal done!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 ok, two Noah Syndergaards for Santos. Deal done! Trevor May & Richie Shaffer coming right up!
TRM Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Call me when you decide you can't roster him anymore. I was actually the one who grabbed him! I was thinking we could start the package around Adrian Gonzalez!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I was actually the one who grabbed him! I know but everyone seems to think he won't be worth rostering for very long.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Yeah and I thought you were saying when FTD got tired of him, to flip him your way
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I knew MAG was on waivers and wanted nothing to do with him, even though I only have #14 and several open roster spots due to DLs.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 KingKat, let me know when the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes start!
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 KingKat, let me know when the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes start! I'd be in on it too!
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I'd be in on it too! Once I get him, I'll sell him to you at 25% markup.
