I don't really like keeping projects on my MLB roster and use the last four roster spots as a revolving door. 59 pitchers accumulated stats for me this year, which is the equivalent of five MLB teams' pitching staffs. Whoever I take in the waiver draft will probably be off the team by May regardless of where they're taken.

Pomeranz still has some hope IMO. Decent stuff, only 24 and was great in Colorado Springs. But the Indians certainly do look like winners.

I never liked Alex White. There is still hope with Pomeranz, though doubt he becomes anything significant (nothing more than a No. 4 or 5). Cleveland really only got one good season out of Ubaldo, though at the end of the day they still won the trade. This was a guy that two years ago everyone wrote off since he was a disaster. As much as I like Ubaldo, I'd be wary of giving him a 4-5 year deal this offseason. His high BB totals scare me.

Gryffindor and Taijuan On are pretty straight forward to me. I feel they each got equivalent value on their ends (Soler and Gray are pretty close, edge to Soler IMO) (Gray = 6th)

For me, Darvish is by far the best player in the deal, so I agree. He's the kind of guy you can really build a rotation around.

Darvish is a stud, but I needed to deal him to improve my offense. First base was a sore spot for me in 2013, as was consistent power (Beltre being my only 30 HR hitter). Now I have a stud at every offensive position. I also love Rizzo and have been pursuing him pretty much since the draft - I think he will grow into an elite threat in what will become a dangerous Cubs lineup. I also like Smith and Duffy, maybe one of them will emerge as a league-average starter.

 

With Gonzalez moving to 1B-only, Kats saw an opportunity to bulk up his pharm, and he ended up doing that. Franco in particular had one of the best offensive seasons in the minors, destroying A+ and AA as a 20-year-old.

 

Darvish probably was the best player in the deal, and I always like the side that gets the best player. CatsAss made out pretty well.

 

The other two were involved to account for personal preference in valuing prospects. The top prospects swapped around are roughly equivalent in value.

I thought your bats were better than your pitching already. McCutchen-Choo-Beltre-Mauer-Kemp seems like a pretty viable core, while Darvish was far and away your best pitcher. On the flip side, you may have picked up two 30 HR bats for 2014. Or a fat guy in early decline and a mid-tier 1B who never hits for average. It could go either way. LaRoche and Carter netted about 50 HR, so I'm not sure Prince and Rizzo will be a huge improvement on that next year. I'd probably take the ace in his prime who punched out 277 batters this year over that delta, but that's just how I see it.

At first Nof49 approached me for one of my 1B but I was looking for prospects but didn't like what he had beyond Franco. I thought about trading down a 1B with another owner and then trading with Nof49 for Franco straight up but that didn't really go anywhere on either end. I also thought about only offering AGon but I actually have a much better feeling about him and since he prefers Fielder that would have pointlessly extended negotiations. I really like Franco and I'm hoping I picked the right time to cash in Fielder even if the return is not amazing on paper.

Don't forget Kipnis! #3 fantasy second baseman this year and only 26.

 

I'm not worried about Fielder's slight off-year. It was due to his HR/FB dropping 4.4 percentage points from 2012... yet his average flight ball went only 2.67 feet less (which was similar to other previous seasons). It should rebound to the 18-20 range, making him a 30-40 HR threat again, which is 10-20 more than I can expect from LaRoche. Add in 20 extra runs and RBIs out of first (and significant slash-line gains), and that's a significant improvement. I finished middle of the back in production stats (H, HR, RBI) and well behind the leader. This will amend that.

 

As for pitching, I now plan on acquiring a #2-type starter. And if Cueto's lat is good going forward, he can step in and be a borderline #1. I'm comfortable with my nucleus of Bailey-Cueto-Parker-Porcello. Four four-pitch righties.

I feel the same way about North's offense. It already seemed loaded, and now its ridiculously stacked. However, his pitching is going to have a lot of questions going into next season.

 

I like Bailey a lot, but would feel more comfortable with him as my #2. Parker and Cueto are quality arms but both have modest K rates and you're in a situation now where you need Parker to take a step forward next season. Then you have Porcello and Maholm who aren't too far off from what's in free agency.

 

That being said, it's a long off season and you still have a lot of good pieces North. You have plenty of time to add some pitching help.

I think you're underrating Rizzo then. I expect him to be very good.

 

Also, a fun fact: Burch Smith's Steamer projection isn't far off Darvish's. 208 IP, 217 K, 3.29 ERA vs. 192 IP, 230 K, 3.03 ERA. I may already have Darvish's replacement!

I had Rizzo in 2 leagues as well and he disapeared for brutally long stretches but that seems normal for a young player. I still think he showed enough to be optimistic going forward.

Ya, I started getting sick of him too. He went on a tear last year where he could carry a team for a couple weeks. But then theres the month long streaks of him totally sucking, I already have other bats like that and I need to find more consistancy. He's still young, and has plenty of time to figure things out though, and he could become a monster. It also hurt a little to give up Soler.

 

My weak point at the end of the season was my starting. I feel good about it now with a 1/2 of Kershaw and Darvish. Now as long as Buchholz can stay healthy and a couple of my young guys take steps forward, I should have a good rotation.

I'm thinking about making a thread in 'Rosters' that shows all owned players on one page, with their owner, and sorted by position. It's tedious to go to Yahoo, search the player, find the team, go back to PB, and look at that team's Block, and with player movement Yahoo is becoming inaccurate. I would update this thread myself with each trade.
