5 minute overtimes until somebody wins.

 

There’s so many times we get an action packed 3v3 OT with end to end chances and you wish they just did another period.

 

The 3v3 is interesting. While there certainly is action and scoring chances, there's also a lot of puck control stuff where they just hover in the neutral zone - afraid to give up the puck. I wonder if they eliminated the shootout and said "you play until someone scores", if the 3v3 would change at all. I'm definitely in favor of eliminating the shootout (even though kids love watching it).

Honestly 3v3 OT with some kind of basketball style "shot clock" would even be better than a shootout.

They need to abolish the shootout. NHL should go to the NBA format for Overtime. Shits fun.

 

The difference is there is so much scoring in the NBA that it is rare for a 5 minute OT to not end the game. Double OT games are relatively rare.

 

In the NHL it would be much, much more common for games to go to 2, 3, 4 OTs. So they would just need some way to make that unlikely.

 

Something like a 20 second "shot attempt clock" so teams have to play aggressively. Or maybe a rule where if the 2nd OT ends with no goals, the team with the most shots on net in overtime wins the game.

 

f***, why not do 1v1 60 second overtime shifts instead of a shootout? That would be insanely fun. It would be the ultimate test of skill.

Seems like a no brainer. Just play 3 on 3 until someone scores. So much time and space that it will happen eventually even if it takes longer than 5 minutes

 

My thoughts exactly. Anything's better than a skill's competition deciding outcome of games. I want to see actual hockey played.

Wendel scored 5 goals in the first two games of 1991-1992. Ended up with 19 and missed half the season.

Lots can happen...let's pump the brakes and enjoy the ride, as long as it goes.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game tonight. Is it safe to say our goalie was great and theirs was not? ...Cause based on the shots on goal it looks like our team was pretty crap.

He saved them in the first period, yes. Leafs skilled players had finish, and Woll stood on his head, it's about time it worked the other way for the Leafs.

Pinto was suspended 41 games for gambling.

 

And ultimately it really doesn't mean much as the NHL is allowing him to serve the suspension while being unsigned (RFA). He's already served 6 games. The December 1st signing deadline has also been waived so the Sens will be able to sign him after that date. This only helps the Sens cap situation and being able to get Pinto signed.

 

Crafty cap manipulation. Good for them.
