Laika Community Moderator Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 The salary cap is stagnant. Not many teams have cap. It's going up slightly next season and is predicted to make a big jump in 2 years. A lot of players are signing 1 or 2 year deals to get bigger deals in the future. It's basically the worst year to be a free agent. That makes sense I guess Pillow deal
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Good signing for my boys. Rangers paying Blake Wheeler making less than Ryan Reaves lmao. That was a coup, so was getting Quick I think.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 The NHL need to raise the floor of the cap and introduce a soft cap like the other leagues do.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Like both pickups of Bertuzzi and Domi for the Leafs. Adds some toughness and both of those guys can at least provide value offensively. Bertuzzi should be good for 50-60 points over a full season. Domi should be good for the same and maybe more if he can recapture his 2018/2019 form.

When Domi played with Montreal he was frustrating to watch, So much talent but you never knew if he was going to show up to give it his best.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Lol I think this was from when he was with Montreal. I had seen in another another interview, possibly before going to Montreal, saying it's terrible and it's rough spending 1 night in the city.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Matt Murray to LTIR instead of buyout. Good.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Looks like Dubas is about to land Karlsson. Should be an interesting deal.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Love the Martin Jones signing by the Buds.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Terrible sad day in Leaf Land. RIP Rodin Amirov
JG34 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 RIP Rodion, cancer sucks. I was searching for an update on his health recently and didn’t find anything, so I figured it wasn’t getting better.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 RIP, Rodion. Just terrible. I thought he was on the road to recovery...had no idea he was getting worse.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Leafs sign AM34 to a 4 year 53M extension. (13.25M AAV) Noice! Edited August 23, 2023 by Spanky99
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 If he don’t do it in those 4 years Imma jump off a cliff! GLG

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Great deal for both sides IMO. Matthews is here for another 5 seasons, so that gives the Leafs a window to hopefully make some noise in the Playoffs. You'll still have Matthew in his prime years so no worries about his age or any regression. Also, gives Brad Treliving enough of a window to build this team into a Stanley Cup contender via free agents, trades and draft picks. Matthews only signs a 4 year-extension so nothing crazy long term like 8-10 years. He'll become a FA by the age of 30, so he'll still have an opportunity to earn big money and a contract if he keeps up his high level of play and especially if the NHL raises the salary cap which by then will definitely be more. As well, gives Matthews one last chance to try to lead the Leafs to the Promise Land. If he fails, he can leave and sign somewhere else. If he wins here in Toronto, he'll likely earn a huge payday after from the Leafs or another team once he becomes a FA.

GLG If the Leafs don't win a Stanley Cup in the next five years, they never will. You have one of the best cores in place in Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Taveras, Reilly etc. Gotta hope they could go on a big run. So far I've liked Treliving's moves this offseason adding some toughness in Bertuzzi and Domi without sacrificing offense. As well, signing Matthews to this extension at least gives the Leafs a clear direction and stability over the next 5 years as they know they have their best player to build around.

Might not happen for 200 years, but at some point, they will win. NEVER is inaccurate.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Matthews is going to coast now that he got paid.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Matthews is going to coast now that he got paid. He's going to eat hot dogs everyday like Phil Kessel.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Matthews is going to coast now that he got paid. Matthews got paid in his last deal. Don't think he coasted.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Matthews got paid in his last deal. Don't think he coasted. He won't coast. He'll be a free agent at 30 and will still be able to land a huge deal at that age if he's playing at an elite level.
