Did you just seriously compare Michael Young to Kevin Pillar?

Young is overrated but consistently put up 2.5-3 WAR over a very fine career. Career .342 wOBA from a most-of-the-time middle infielder.

I don't compared, I just said "they both have one thing in common"....overrated

Value of qualifying offering will rise to $14.1 M

About as expected I guess

Damn that's a a lot of money to gamble on guys you don't really want to keep

This system has to change

Posted
That's not the point though! The qualifying offer system is give low-revenue teams compensation for stars they can't afford to keep.

The Type A/Type B stuff was the real system that had to change.

Elias sports bureau was a joke, useless and failed system.

True.

But some poor teams probably can't even gamble the QO for fear it might get accepted. I guess it usually works though, like with BJ Upton leaving Tampa.

If a star player was qualified and accepted, they could almost certainly trade him for roughly what they'd receive with the pick, if not more. (maybe the rules would have to be changed to remove 10-5 rights if the player accepts). It really only affects players who are generally not elite who the team thinks isn't worth the QO but will decline it to sign a multi-year deal somewhere, which isn't really the intent of the rule, is it?

Sook min Yoon will try out for MLB teams this offseason, as per MLBTR. Yoon appears to be a free agent as is, and would not require a posting fee as such.

Baseball reference only has his stats for 2009/10, where he was quite impressive as a 22/23 year old.

I posted this a few days ago in the egregious mistake thread. Pretty funny article, and sad that it doesn't seem that far fetched.

I just can't believe he goes around saying this. Like it's ridiculous. Zero walks? I would just outright release the idiot.

It's amazing how many people don't realize they're reading a NotGraphs article. It's like stumbling upon an article from the Onion and not realizing.

Apparently the satire is just too subtle for them. They need to be bashed over the head with completely ludicrous quotes, utterly dripping in sarcasm.

It's gonna be a STL BOS World Series. How nauseating.

I hope the Cards win if that's the case. I dislike their fanbase, but I have so much respect for that F.O. team.

Yankees To Rest Pitching Mound After 8 Innings Of CC Sabathia

SPORTS NEWS IN BRIEF • Sports • Baseball • Baseball • ISSUE 48•21 • May 20, 2012

NEW YORK— Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced at a press conference Tuesday his plans to give the pitching mound a few days of rest to fully recover from enduring eight grueling innings of hurler CC Sabathia. "A long outing of Sabathia really put a strain on the mound, and the last thing we want to do is risk permanent damage," said Girardi, adding that the pitching mound was iced down to prevent swelling. "The mound has been a valuable asset this year, and we have a huge investment at stake. But it's a long season and we are definitely concerned that is was so worn down after one start by CC. From here on out the mound will be limited to a strict pitcher count." While Girardi said he hopes it won't be long before the pitching mound is back out on the field, he maintained that the unfortunate situation provides an opportunity for dirt from the bullpen to get a few starts.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that Carlos Beltran would "strongly consider" signing with the Yankees this offseason.

Beltran has shown interest in playing for the Yankees in each of his last two forays into free agency, so it makes sense. They would also be a logical fit at this point in his career, as the 36-year-old could spend time in the DH spot to keep his knees fresh. The Yankees received little in the way of production out of right field this season and figure to be on the lookout for offense this winter, so the interest could be mutual.

Re Beltran - Why is a guy who is still playing in the playoffs talking about his free agency interests right now? Or is the interview from earlier in the season?

Regardless, will suck for us if they get him to replace the over rated Granderson.

one mlb gm: Mccann could get $100 million

andrew marchand of espn new york was told by one mlb general manager that brian mccann could receive a deal for six years and $100 million this winter.

The gm argued that mccann is a top-five catcher and could transition to first base and dh near the end of the contract. $100 million sounds like a stretch, but as always, it only takes one team to make the possibility a reality. The most likely comp for a deal will be yadier molina, who signed a five-year, $75 million extension with the cardinals in march of 2012. Mccann will turn 30 years old next february.

Aren't you glad that we have one of those top 5 catchers on are ball club. We should be able to ship him off for a boat load.

Where can I find defensive plate discipline data for catchers?

I highly doubt this info is available without some serious hunting, but if anyone finds anything, post it here, I've looked for this too.

Wow.....Rick Sutcliffe just said during that inning that there's No One in the game better than Juan Uribe defensively at 3rd base..........WAT????????

I would ask Longo
