What?.....and now Lind is smart.

And apparently an outfielder as well.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Boston Red Sox catcher: “If you’re talking all-around player, it’s Mike Trout. He plays good defense, steals bases, hits for power, hits for average. If you’re talking best hitter, even if he’s mediocre at his position, you’ve got Miguel Cabrera. He’s just an unbelievable hitter. But best overall player, Mike Trout.

He seems pretty bright.

What's funny? I hate seeing a young pitcher like Matt Harvey miss the entire 2014 season.

Oh I hate it too, I'm just laughing at the fact that I (and definitely others) figured this would happen they decided to rehab it instead of going for the quick surgery.

They didn't lose any time. He was always going to be ready opening day 2015, and that hasn't changed.

Can't the recovery time go up to 18 months? That may be a bit beyond OD. I still think they should have gone for surgery immediately but I have a feeling NYM wants to compete next year so I guess I get where they were coming from.

The attrition rate for young pitchers in this game is a complete joke.

Injury attrition for young pitchers (Strasburg, Harvey, Drabek, etc etc. though bounce backs obviously happen commonly after TJS)

Injury/suckage attrition for veteran pitchers (Halladay, Matsuzaka, Lincecum)

Pitching is so fickle it's insane. You just can't count on them year after year.

One of these things is not like the other.

Well, maybe one of them isn't quite as good as the other two. LOL

Reds could trade Phillips in a bit of a makeover suggests MLBTR

Been waiting for this, seems like he doesn't really fit in with his comments. Not that I give a f*** I want him on the Jays right freaking now.

NEW YORK -- After making Joe Girardi a new contract offer, the New York Yankees are awaiting his decision on whether he will continue to manage the team, an official with knowledge of the talks told ESPNNewYork.com.

The source would not reveal the parameters of the new contract, but it is expected to be significant.

"We are going to give him a real good reason to stay," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said during a news conference Tuesday.

Girardi, 48, is in the final month of his three-year, $9 million deal. Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels is the highest-paid manager in baseball with an annual salary a tick above $5 million.

For what it would cost to acquire Phillips and his contract, I'm not sure it would be worth it. He looks like he's starting to decline, as the last couple of seasons indicate. He barely had a .700 OPS this season. Sure defensively he's one of the best if not the best, though if his bat is in significant decline, the Jays would basically be paying $12 million for a glove only second baseman.

His BABIP is down about 20 points. He has an adequate-very good bat for a 2B and a really good glove. His contract is reasonable. He's averaged ~2.9 fWAR/600 PA over his career.

I'm not convinced he's (significantly) declining as much as just having had a bad year. 2011 was probably a career year for him, but his previous seasons were all pretty much like his 2012 was, which was almost bang on his career averages. His defensive numbers were also pretty much in line with what you'd expect, with the exception of a few extra errors.

With that said, if we have to spend a higher amount next year on a second baseman I think I'd rather just go out and get infante or someone similar rather than give assets too.

I'm certainly not opposed to this, it's just a matter of who's willing to sign here.

We already have him

His name is Ryan Goins

He probably is available, though I wouldn't want him here as a starter getting over 500 AB's. His offensive numbers are atrocious - the Jays would just be better running out Goins then.

Defensively, Phillips is still one of the best at his position - no argument there. Offensively, he has declined the past three years, and as he enters his mid-30's, I still expect him to decline somewhat. Outside of the 18 HR's and 103 RBI this season (which we all know are horrible indicators), his other numbers like .OBP, .SLG and SB #'s were extremely disappointing.

Infante makes more sense then Phillips since the Jays wouldn't have to give up any assets. I'm still sure the Reds have a high price on Phillips if they were to move him.

My point was that if you consider 2011 to be a career year, then 2013 was the only year he's declined, which may have just been a bad year (or perhaps he was battling some minor injuries).
