Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Mets' 2014 hopes screwed: WFAN's Mike Francesa says @MattHarvey33 will go on DL with a torn UCL in his elbow. But they have d'Arnaud and Syndegaard... I know Dickey's been struggling here in Toronto, but now the Mets are looking stupid for not resigning Dickey now.. Harvey will miss the 2014 season to likely Tommy John Surgery. Guess Syndegaard will be up sooner than later.. What is this I don't even
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Mariners let go Assistant GM Tony Blengino. Reading an old BP interview, he seems very bright. He's specializes in statistical analysis I believe.. would make an interesting GM candidate.

You gotta know someone to get in THIS elite club.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 more waiver claims going on today. Kendry Morales has been claimed by someone.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 So no more horrifying draft night coverage? I can live with that He was already doing draft coverage for them though. They like rented him for the draft or whatever.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Mayo was actually starting to get a little bit better, he was being mentored by Callis anyway...but still I hope they replace Mayo completely. Any word who takes Executive Editor at BA?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Rays option Jeremy Hellickson to the minors Rays optioned RHP Jeremy Hellickson to High-A Charlotte. Hellickson had a 9.15 ERA in 20 2/3 innings in August and the Rays could no longer afford to keep him in their rotation. The 26-year-old right-hander should be brought back up (though maybe not as a starter) in September.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 They really should have traded him.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have at least five players going through revocable waivers and that there is a high probability that the club will make at least one trade in the next 24 to 48 hours. It appears the Mets are prepping for potential trades, as the club has catcher Anthony Recker, outfielder Matt den Dekker and left-hander Robert Carson en route to New York. Marlon Byrd, John Buck, and Pedro Feliciano are among the candidates to be traded. Aug 27 - 8:50 AM Lincecum must be kicking himself for not taking that long term deal awhile back.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 CB Bucknor just called a chincy balk on Farquhar with 2 out in a tie game in the 10th inning with runners on the corners. From the clip I saw, he looked like a statue there...no feet movement, no arm movement... #UmpShow
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 From MLBtraderumors, an article on the Marlins farm; Sam Dyson, RHP, Triple-A: The Marlins more or less stole this talented pitcher from the Jays. Toronto added Dyson to the 40-man roster when he was called up to the Majors last season, but he appeared in just two big league games (both out of the bullpen) before being returned to the minor leagues. In the offseason, the club faced a roster crunch and the former fourth round draft pick was claimed off waivers by the Fish. With his new club, the 25-year-old Dyson was converted back to a starter after spending much of 2012 in the bullpen. Like DeSclafani, he's had a lot of success in his new role. He's spent the majority of the 2013 season in Double-A but has also pitched well in four starts since being promoted to Triple-A. I honestly can't believe that anyone would waste ink (yes digital ink) on a guy with a career MiLB K/9 of 4.9.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Nationals Trying To Trade Danny Espinosa The Nationals are in the process of deciding whether or not they will include struggling infielder Danny Espinosa in this year's crop of September call-ups, and MLB.com's Bill Ladson reports that the team is looking to trade the 26-year-old. Ladson's source said he doesn't anticipate that Espinosa will play a Major League game this season and the Nationals' efforts to trade him have been stifled by the switch-hitter's poor performance since being demoted to Triple-A Syracuse. Espinosa played through a fractured wrist for a month this season and batted just .158/.193/.272 in 167 plate appearances. Since his demotion, he's hitting just .208/.271/.283 in 292 plate appearances. Espinosa's agent, Scott Boras, said that his client has dealt with a lingering thumb injury for several weeks at Syracuse. It's also worth noting that he played through a torn rotator cuff in 2012, which could obviously still have a lingering effect on his production at the plate. Boras told reporters that other teams do have interest in Espinosa: "Every park that I go into will ask me about Danny. They want to know what he is doing. So the guy has real value." Interested teams undoubtedly look at Espinosa's 20-homer power and 20-steal speed as well as his plus defense at second base and shortstop. However, those positives also come with the injury concerns and a long-standing problem with strikeouts; Espinosa has whiffed in 27.1 percent of his career plate appearances and has a whopping 96 strikeouts at Syracuse this season after leading the NL with 189 punchouts in 2012. Espinosa hit .242/.319/.408 with 38 homers and 37 steals as a regular for the Nats from 2011-12, so trading him at this point would unquestionably be selling with his value at an all-time low. However, this is the second time there have been reports regarding a potential trade of Espinosa, as rival evaluators speculated back in June that playing him at shortstop at Triple-A was an attempt to showcase him as a trade chip. Espinosa has played 32 games at shortstop and 39 at second base since his demotion. Buy low
