  1. I cannot believe people think signing either Tucker or Bo creates a problem. I already showed in a prior post that you could sign both and things would still be fine. You just end up with better players on the bench. It is not like Barger and Clement have massive salaries either. The players that will become expendable are Lukes or maybe Schneider, or both. You do not turn down Tucker or Bo just to keep these players.
  2. I am curious what they want and what they are being offered. It sounds like there is a lot of separation because none of these guys seem close to signing.
  3. It is not impossible to sign either Tucker or Bo, or even both when it comes to the roster. Just that it is financially unlikely. C - Kirk/Heineman 1B - Vladdy/Okamoto 2B - Bo/Giminez/Clement SS - Giminez/Clement/Bo 3B - Okamoto/Barger/Clement RF - Tucker/Barger CF - Varsho/Straw LF - Santander/Tucker DH - Springer/Santander That is 13 players with Clement and Barger as your primary sub or rotation players. Straw and Heineman are your backup CF and C, as well as RH and LH bench bats. Signing both makes Lukes and Schneider both trade fodder. Signing one, makes one of them a trade piece. I am not saying the Jays will sign both or either, just that its not like they won't help the roster.
  4. This is my thinking exactly. Unless they think they can rotate Springer, Santander, Barger and Okamoto for 3 positions for a year. Because Springer could be just a 1 year situation if he is not renewed. I don't think they will automatically turn down Tucker but it is less likley now. If they sign Bo, he takes 2B, and Clement/Gimenez platoon as the SS and utilitity infielder. That is an easier move.
  5. Looks like Gimenez had an off year. If they do sign Bo, I expect Clement will get some starts at SS against LHP.
  6. They can stash Loperfido in the minors. If Straw walks in free agency the year after, you have his potential replacement. I assume Lukes is the one that gets traded. Barger has too much upside and Schneider is needed as a utility infielder. Leo Jimenez is also out of options. So Lukes/Jimenez could be packaged in a deal.
  7. And if they sign another bat, one of those guys will be traded. 😄
  8. It improves depth obviously, but it is not a seismic shift.
  9. Isn't Clement a better hitter than Giminez against RHP also? I find being average on your better split, not exactly that greatest selling point. They will likely pitch hit for Giminez the first chance they get against LHP and RHP.
  10. Are we not expecting the Dodgers to add more salary?
  11. I have lost track of the payroll. I am sure one of the payroll gurus on the board has crunched the numbers. The problem is that the numbers they are throwing around for Tucker and Bo are all over the place. So there is a lot of assumptions and different scenarios depending the contract details involved. I dont' think either Tucker or Bo are getting the contracts they originally wanted. Look at Imai and Okamato signing just before their respective deadlines.
  12. They can still sign Tucker or Bo. This move does not prevent that. Hell, they could still sign both but I doubt that happens. 😄
  13. Regardless of whether its Bo or Tucker, the other 12 spots are pretty clear.
  14. So no need to platoon. It is interesting that the Jays have very few hitters where being in a platton would help them.
  15. The jays don't have the right pieces for a Marte deal. I still think its more likely that the Jays sign more free agents than trade for Marte.
  16. Does anyone have a link to his splits against RH/LH pitching?
  17. There was a recent story suggesting he can play left field, not sure how valid that is.
  18. I like Lauer because he basically will adjust to whatever role he is given and do it well. That is a quality that is often undervalued but you need these type of players to fill gaps in the roster throughout the year. Unpredictable injuries and players just abruptly s***ing the bed means those gaps in the pitching staff are always fluid.
  19. Bieber probably cannot handle a normal workload because of his recent injury history. And Yesavage has never pitched a full year in the majors. I don't see a big issue with running a 6 man rotation to start. Someone will get injured soon enough, and they then probably drop to 5 starters. This also gives you a chance to recover Berrios and make him tradeable piece in the future.
  20. If Imai does not get the offer he wants, is there is any benefit for him to take a one year deal to prove himself?
  21. 7 man starting rotaton here we come.
  22. My main question if he stays is how will he adapt to a role in the pen. Not necessarily his willingness to be in the pen, but when you come out of the pen you often alter how you pitch. Bassitt made the transition look easy in the playoffs but that is not always the case for everyone.
  23. If he strictly plays DH and gets rested on a regular basis, I do not see his hitting dropping off drastically. Santander and whoever is nursing slight injury can take some games at DH throughout the year.
  24. Ricky T could end up the best lefty in the pen when your other options are Little and Fluharty.
