  1. It's not credible to trash Springer's defence in RF based on a mere 38 chances, And some of the plays not made were not because he lacked range (see especially the first example). But because the plays weren't made, stats like OAA, which are heavily weighted for range, get distorted. That being said, having a 35 year old play outfield is not optimal. But if the Jays are putting George at DH because his defence is degrading and Santander is not available, that shows signing Santander -- who is a terrible defender -- was just bad roster construction. (One fan who is a wiz with advanced metrics told me Santander's poor defence doesn't matter because -- he really typed this -- the Jays could hide Santander in LF because nobody hits the ball to left field.)
  2. Good to see. I wanted the Jays to claim him because he was a hard-throwing lefty. I was surprised they turned him into a starter in Buffalo -- where he thrived.
  3. >the deal’s $11.5-million average annual value $11.6 million, actually.
  4. I don't blame Vlad for asking for such a ridiculous deal. Considering what Soto got, it would be against Vlad's best interests not to ask. And what if some crazy team says yes? You gotta find out. I would be happy for Vlad if someone gave him the deal he wanted. Even so, there is no plausible way to justify this team agreeing to such a stupid and wasteful deal for a first baseman with his body type. You can try. You will fail.
  5. Loperfido did not break his neck. He played Friday night and is playing Saturday afternoon.
  6. >today we remember a bullpen warrior in Scott Schoeneweis Why?
  7. Whew! Like Jim, I don't know if this tactic is allowed under the CBA rules. But I do know the numbers are awful. How much is Bo worth on the open market? After his abysmal 2024, and with questions about his leg health (he looked slow on Saturday), no way is Bo worth 10Y/$250M. And not to play 2B. The rest is moot.
  8. >The Royals signed Wade Davis Jim! Come on! The Royals traded for Davis. And he was not as a reliever at the time. Davis failed badly in the KCR rotation before they moved him to the bullpen.
  9. (Good to see you have found a new perch, Bob!) Bregman is a good fit but not on any deal with term. Offer him $35M-$40M for one year. Time is running out, Alex! I believe the reason Santander, Alonso and Bregman are the last star bats to sign is teams expect them to age badly (even Bregman's decline in foot speed over the years is alarming). I was angry the Jays gave Santander his deal -- until I saw the huge deferrals (I am still not pleased; I do not like DH types except on one-year deals, but the deal is flippable if the Jays crash and burn this season). Fans who want Alonso and Santander on the same team? Two DH types? Forget it! (And fans, I don't want to hear that Vlad will play 3B while Alonso plays 1B. That would be a garbage defence.)
