  1. Schneider said he views Pearson, Pop and Little as non-bulk next men up in the pen. Those 3 don't sound like DFA candidates based on that.
  2. "Perhaps they could DFA Zulu or something instead of Espinal" doesn't sound like "I doubt Zulu gets DFA'd" to me. I do agree with the bolded though, I just think Espinal has even less use on the 40-man than Zulu. Lmao at bringing up 2022 all star. We're just gonna have to agree to disagree on Espishit. I am almost as confident he will underperform his projections this year as I am about Vlad doing the same.
  3. I agree with this. He might just be the clearest DFA candidate on the 40-man at this point. It's not Wes Parsons anymore, and I doubt a 45 FV prospect like Zulu gets DFA like Sherm thinks. Something else I've wondered is, maybe Manoah gets phantom 60-day IL like Adam Cimber last year? It could be in the best interest of both the team and Manoah at this point. Team frees a 40-man spot and Manoah can collect major league pay on 60-day IL. I have no evidence for what I'm about to add here, but I think it's hilarious how Manoah started crying injury again right after he continued to look like 2023 Manoah in his spring appearance. He knows he's cooked, but still wants major league pay like last season when he wouldn't report to Buffalo.
  4. Matheson quoted someone from the team with the "We just want him to be good, and if that means 30 starts as opposed to 32, we’ll be pretty happy with that.” So someone from the team itself is saying he could miss 1-2 starts to begin the regular season.
  5. https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/11179-General-Blue-Jays-Discussion-Thread-(2024)?p=1777522&viewfull=1#post1777522 I tried to talk about it on March 11, but you and others shot it down saying I was pulling a chicken little. Btw if he misses 2 starts that can easily be made a 15-day IL stint (like I said was a possibility on March 11) given he's already starting slotted 5th in the rotation to give him more time.
  6. Sentiment is building among the fanbase that Clement should earn the starting 3B job to begin the season.
  7. Vlad isn't even a good defender at 1B, in fact he's atrocious there too now. Lmao at trying him at 3B again. I want to see him at DH where he belongs but that's a season away at least, with in all likelihood barely any DH reps available this on this year's team.
  8. It's mainly IKF's 2nd year that confuses me. Atkins correctly realized that in absence of landing Ohtani there were basically no other position players worth sacrificing future spending ability on...but IKF is the outlier? What makes him so special where he's the only position player the team added who got more than 1 year? I think my preference would have been for Atkins to continue executing his backup plan to perfection with 1 year deals only for non Ohtani FA position players. Instead he only executed it to near perfection.
  9. Jays are getting ripped by other agents and execs for the IKF deal
  10. JD Davis to the A's
  11. Michael A Taylor to the Pirates
  12. Is this the general spring training GDT now?
  13. Schneider said Serven or Payton Henry will fill in while Jano is out. Might be a competition between the two for one 40 man spot.
  14. Cole injury timeline apparently 10-12 weeks
  15. Duvall to the Braves
  16. The Padres are still projected to make the playoffs in the weak NL (relative to the AL). They were probably just ordered to slash payroll while still aiming to remain competitive on the field. Their payroll was 254M last season with a luxury tax payroll of 280M (3rd threshold). Heading into this season they are no longer a tax team, with a projected payroll of 167M. They slashed payroll by 87M and won't be a tax team either, while still being projected to make the playoffs. Cease with a salary of only 8M this season (obvious steal compared to the level of player he is), plus another year of team control after this one, makes a lot of sense for a team like that.
  17. If this is the full return White Sox gain 2.1 BTV surplus value in this trade
  18. Cease to the Padres
  19. Exactly, this seems to be the best our SP depth has looked on paper in the Shatkins era
  20. True I forgot about Dallas, he's interesting too (but non 40-man depth for now like Ricky). Macko I think next year or the year after is when he becomes legit SP depth. I think he likely spends the entire season in Buffalo.
  21. Can't lie, I actually kind of like the team's SP depth this season on paper. Even being one of Manoah's biggest haters (still don't believe in him) I've always liked Francis White and Parsons are wildcards with seemingly more interesting stuff than last season Plus Yariel and Ricky will ramp up in AAA When was the last time the team had this many interesting SP depth arms heading into a season?
  22. You might wanna clarify Sherm, because I know we saw this from the same source (latest At the Letters), that the bolded is seen as the "best case scenario if everything breaks right" by the team, not the most likely scenario.
  23. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/video/banged-up-guerrero-jr-bullpen-questions-weighing-on-blue-jays-in-spring-training/ If both Francis and White start in the rotation, I think that implies Gausman and Manoah start the season on IL (or in Manoah's case specifically maybe he is just behind Francis and White on the SP depth chart now). Unless one of Berrios/Bassitt/Kikuchi is hurt and I missed it?
  24. Apparently on top of Manoah, Gausman is now also in doubt to be healthy for the start of the season, which would make the opening week rotation Berrios/Bassitt/Kikuchi/Francis/White. Both Tiedemann and Yariel Rodriguez are going to start the season in the minors, and when Schneider was being asked who takes Gausman's roster spot if he too starts on IL, the 3 names mentioned as being in consideration were Pearson/Pop/Little.
