I am not disputing he was unlucky against SD. I am not focusing on the results really, just the quality of his pitches and command. I would not put a higher grade than 40 on any of his pitches or his command.
I have been saying this since ST. This team is so f***ing stupid at baserunning. The worst I have seen in terms of decision making. We probably give the opposing pitchers an average of 2 to 3 free outs per game.
OAA accounts for player positioning for plays made. It uses play difficulty calculated by statcast which combines the batted ball data and the ground the player needed to cover in time.
Dude.. Kirk's positional adjustment would get nullified and then he would get deep into negative defensive value as he misses all balls hit in his direction in CF. Same for Vlad.
Getting positive defensive value in CF is actually hard. Not many players can do it.
So much dumn here. The whole point of WAR is to compare players value across different positions. Players with more WAR are more valuable.
Is WAR perfect? Not really. But it is still very good. Vlad's WAR makes perfect sense given his mediocre offensive production for a 1B and limited range defensively.
Jansen up to 746 OPS on the season. Should be able to overtake Vladdy by end of July and then become the team leader in September.
My only complaint is that I wish he was not so smug and didn't give his teammates a head start in the race early in the season.
I would fire the coaching staff for how many outs they cause/enable on the bases. At this point, I have no doubt that they lack the intelligence to learn.
