  1. This. And also, you keep the better players which is good if you are contending.
  2. I wouldn’t turn Soto for Kirk but it also wouldn’t happen. I mean i wouldn’t have turned down ohtani + trout for vlad but I wasn’t sitting twiddling my thumbs last year saying ‘we can trade tellez or vlad based on what offer we get’. I could logically figure out the different values of the players and make guesses based on that. That’s an extreme example but it’s what you are doing. To put this another way. I trust the front office to get fair value. If you present me with a fair value trade for Jansen or one for Kirk, I’d choose Jansen all day every day to go.
  3. TECHNICALLY, that’s true. But we can make suppositions based on what our team has done before and what teams generally value. Usually, teams in our position will deal the least valuable guy. That’s Jansen or Moreno (current value). It’s not Kirk. Sure, if you present a crap value Jansen trade vs a Kirk trade for a guy who could be an ace… thats a different proposition. But wouldn’t our front office just find a better deal for Jansens value?
  4. Is showcasing prospects in the majors a real thing? I’ve always thought that you maintain more value through letting teams have minor league stats to dream on. I can see it with vets. A few months of health and performance is required but for prospects, I wouldn’t call guys up that I want to shop. Especially top prospects.
  5. Yea, Samad Taylor is ‘eligible’ on his profile and we know he was eligible for the previous draft.
  6. Are you absolutely sure? Because I don’t think they would have protected Jiminez if they didn’t have to last year. Edit: I think ‘eligible means they are eligible because they were already eligible for previous drafts. For example, Samad Taylor is also ‘eligible’ and we know he was eligible for the 2021 draft that was cancelled.
  7. Sure but it does decrease the perceived value to some degree.
  8. Rule 5 is going to be VERY interesting this off-season. Just looking at roster resource there’s going to be some interesting decisions. One guy that popped out is Zulueta. It just adds to my belief that he gets pushed and ends up as a long man/relief in our pen this year or maybe a back end starter if performs ok up the levels. We have a need there and he needs to be protected this off-season anyway.
  9. Actually, now I’m swinging the other way. Leo Jiminez was eligible last year and he was 20 last may. Martinez is 20 this July. Assuming they are both signed at 16, aren’t those identical situations?
  10. I think if they really considered trading him, they wouldn’t call him up. He’s probably going to struggle. Most guys do. Especially catchers. I also don’t totally believe in the best deal philosophy. Yes, everyone has their price but there are also guys you are more willing to trade and will more likely have a real market. Like, I can think of two teams off the top of my head (giants/astros) that have a need and the types of players that we need for Jansen. With Kirk, we won’t get full price for his skills because of his body… so why trade him. So, yea, no one is untouchable but you can usually project to SOME degree who is more likely to be ….touched I guess lol. I do think if someone is ready to pay a true price for Kirk/Moreno we would listen of course. Like the true price for Kirk should be pretty f***ing big. Is a team really going to pay that?
  11. Should we really be that concerned about this. We have him until he’s 28. That’s not that old.
  12. I think this means they are almost certainly not trading Moreno. They wouldn’t bring him up if they were seriously concerned about inevitable struggles.
  13. The latter 80FV, the former I guess half a grade better than he is now.
  14. I’m just going off fangraphs. They have him listed as dec 22. It is possible they are wrong. From your explanation it seems they must be.
  15. I kind of don’t see how jansen isn’t the one you trade unless they know something about Kirk beyond that he is small and fat. They wouldn’t call Moreno up if they intended to trade imo. This almost has to hurt his trade value in the short term. Maybe.. or maybe teams don’t care at all about short term performance in the majors? Kirk is 23 and we have him until he is 28. Again, unless he has something going on we don’t know about, then who cares about his height and weight. Jansen is the odd one out. It could be just a quick look for Moreno and there’s no trade this year, but I still think it’s more likely then that Jansen would be gone in the off-season.
  16. I wonder if he will return this year? Kind of amazingly, he’s rule 5 eligible at the end of this year. It’s probably a stacked enough year that he will slip through tho.
  17. I think the idea that they were going to trade Moreno was always suspect. Teams really don’t seem to trade guys that highly regarded any more. LA traded a 55FV pitcher and a 50FV catcher for an ace rental and 1.5 yrs control of a stud short stop and that was honestly a shocking trade. It was always unlikely that we would be making that level of trade. Martin and SWR weren’t on the same tier as Moreno either. What this means to me is that the front office believes in Moreno. Other than that, it doesn’t tell us that much. It might be intended as a 1 month acclimatization stint, or it could be up for good. It does increase the chances that someone is getting traded pre deadline though. This is perfect timing to see if he can stick this year. If the answer is yes, then it does make Jansen or Kirk expendable. I’d lean towards the former but who knows.
  18. Man, if we could figure out swing and miss within the org instead of having to trade for it that would be awesome.
  19. We seem to be good at pitching dev at the major league level. I’m not sure about the minors but that seems to be changing recently. Might take a while to percolate up.
  20. Don’t sprint when it’s pointless to do so 99% of the time… in a game in early June… yea I’d prefer that.
  21. I think in theory this sounds good but going 100% all the time or else results in injuries.
  22. What’s the definition of a long reliever? Honest question. He’s thrown more than 2 innings once all year in Toronto or buffalo and that’s today. I don’t understand the anger about using a guy who usually pitches 2 innings max (and usually less) for 2.1 innings.
  23. Looking at their usage for the season, Thornton was coming out regardless of who came in. Rixhards threw an inning less. He might not have been meant to go the whole inning. You have relievers, you have to use them all at some point within the bounds of how long they are supposed to go. Fans of all teams complain about this kind of stuff even though every manager does it. If the smart teams didn’t do similar stuff I’d be more worried.
  24. They don’t seem to primarily with relievers on an outing to outing basis. A reliever could throw 9 pitches and get out of the inning or 23, they almost are never getting in for another. A lot of guys do one inning and they don’t come in for a second for almost any reason. That’s normal. Surely, I’m not the only one who has noticed this. Relievers are often in for an inning as a goal, and it doesn’t matter how many pitches they throw within a range unless they give up hits. They never come out for a second even if they get three guys out on 8 pitches.
