  1. Yeah it is like that with so many players. Look at Nate Pearson. The guy just can't stay in one piece..........
  2. Yeah that is correct. I forget who it was but someone said he was worth a shot in case of a late-bloomer breakout and if so would add a dimension that Grichuk does not. But Grichuk also has decent wheels although has not shown as much base-stealing prowess.
  3. California is really going downhill these days, so no wonder (assume he was still living there prior to). As far as Tapia: I told you guys (no not you specifically, Jim) he would be next to useless. Having him and Zimmer both on the roster seems totally redundant at this point.
  4. Or is that Charley just trying to help his boy pad his stats with save numbers (don't they still count for a whole lot at arbitration time?). Regardless he could have got the win had they taken the lead in the 11th. Either way dumb managing.
  5. Also apparently a very good lowball hitter (so said the Jays announcers as he was circling the bases on his HR trot). So what does Borucki do ? - throws him nothing but pitches down and in the entire at bat. Who ever was calling the pitches there on both hitters Borucki faced (how much of the blame falls on Kirk?) should be totally embarrassed. Borucki was throwing 96-97 and never went upstairs once as I recall.
  6. Cat got your tongue or are you trying to avoid saying something that will get you another 'slap on the wrist' 24 hr ban? Whatever.............
  7. Sorry to see you are choosing to be antagonistic. Well, suit yourself. I will still always be a Jays fan, regardless of what all you Southern Ontario D-bags think of me.
  8. Hey Spanky - how goes it!? I'm still pounding down the vodka over here! Cheers!!
  9. Try getting a sense of humor my man. Just messing around with you. Don't you remember the Pete Alonso 4 WAR thing between Boxcar and Hurl?? Seriously, lighten up (and I thought I was uptight)! Life is good. Covid is history, life is back to 'normal'.
  10. Let's hope Greg 'The Glass Man v 2.0' Bird stays in one piece and gives the Jays that left-handed thunder from the DH/1B role. And also Springer needs to stay healthy. At this point I would say Tapia is more like a 5th OFer and pinch runner with Biggio being 4th on the OF depth chart (or maybe Palacios?), but the problem is that neither of Gurriel or Hernandez have shown much at CF - although Hernandez did play a number of games there a couple years back, and it was not awful. He definitely has the wheels.
  11. HAHAHAHA: good luck with that one:rolleyes: ETA: I would make you a moderator if Tapia put up 3 WAR this season, but only 2 problems: 1st, you are already a moderator; and 2nd, I (unlike the mighty Hurl) don't have the power to do so.
  12. Yes the one area where Tapia appears to be somewhat valuable is in baserunning. By Fangraphs numbers (I assume still the gold standard in this group), his overall Base running rating is +10.2 over 1425 PA. Unfortunately his cumulative offensive and defensive rankings are -30.2 and -14.9. with an overall fWAR of a measly +0.2. By comparison, even Zeke had 2.4 fWAR over 1305 PA worth of playing time. ETA: I remember being admonished for stating that Zeke was a 'decent' player. And I was 'schooled' that 0 fWAR means a player is no better than any nameless 'replacement' from AAA. So why are some now trying to make silk out of a sow's ear with 0.2 fWAR over 439 games and 1400+ PA and being paid $4M ???
  13. Seriously!!!??? Grichuk had 3.0 fWAR in 2015, followed by 1.5, 2.2 and 2.1 fWAR in the following 3 seasons. The guy always had the obvious ability but could never put it together consistently. Tapia has shown NOTHING! I don't understand why all you fWAR fans are not panning this acquisition as the apparent non-impact/salary dump move that it is. They couldn't even unload all of Grichuk's salary in this miserable deal. Was it announced how much money the Jays sent along with Grichuk to Denver?
  14. The guy is 28 and has been around for parts of 6 MLB seasons. I don't see him suddenly learning how to play the outfield. He has all of 0.2 fWAR over 1425 PA and 439 games and will be making $4M this year - they could have instead gotten a league minimum replacement level 4th OFer and have over $3M left to help bolster the BP. I would rather the Jays had traded Grichuk for a bucket of spit than this dud.
  15. How do you figure that? The Canadian dollar does seem stable versus USD at least for now (worth about 78 cents US). But world events being what they are, you can't predict how it will look 2 months from now let alone 2 years out........
  16. Another class act with zero sense of humor and obviously just looking to take cheap shots, same as the guy who started it that Saskjayfan POS! ETA: I BAN myself before you dickwads can do it SO THERE!!
  17. Apparently you have no sarcasm meter. By the way: what a class act you are all the way. Just proves my point further about what a swell bunch of guys infest this board.
  18. Nice try but, in this case it is not my money so what would I care anyways. Feel free to spend Rogers' money as you wish! P.S. I only tip 5 % if everything is excellent, otherwise zero;) ETA: I have zero faith that Robbie Ray will follow up this career season with anything even close.
  19. Oh Semien for 5/125 for sure! I would only go 3/45 on Ray with a 4th year option for $20M or $5 M buyout. What about Mad Max? He seems like a guy that really wants to win, and might be just the type who would relish having all of Canada cheering him on. Then again he is old as dirt, so maybe 3/75 ?
  20. WOW $180 M is a big number!! If true, finally thinking like a big market team. My concern would be multi-year commitments that blow up in their faces like Morales and Roark, even those were not huge contracts. I hope they don't break the bank for Ray; he seems likely to turn back into a pumpkin and soon.
  21. You mean the clincher or the game earlier that year when Buck made the tag even with a broken ankle? That clincher beating the Yankees to do it was so awesome I fell for the Jays that day (was not that into baseball before that) GOOD TIMES!! ETA: sorry dumb question. The game with the wild Martinez play was in Seattle it looks like.
  22. At first I though the long delay due to so-called injury, and which gave Odorrizi as much time as he wants (I guess within reason) was suspicious ? I didn;t realize the velo drop
  23. Speaking of Rays, I was really glad they lost out in the ALDS. They had no business winning 100 games after apparently throwing in the towel by passing on Morton and trading away Snell. But if I was a fan of theirs I would love their organization for being able to develop and trade for good young players year in year out. Then there is that god awful eyesore they call a baseball stadium with the most ridiculous ground rules ever.
  24. Oh you mean like the 'roided up Mark McGuire or that superstar Randal Grichuk (although I guess neither may qualify since the former started with the A's and the latter was dumped on the Jays). You do have to respect some guys like Pujols, Wainwright and Molina for their longevity if nothing else.
  25. Have they ever done a poll on this forum to see which team is most disliked? I assume it would come up Yankees #1 with Boston a close 2nd. Is the main reason for Boston dislike just the fact they are a division rival with obnoxious fans? And also that they have had a lot of success (4 championships from 2004 to 2018). Well I think their fans deserve the success after over 80 years of frustration with 'The Curse'.
