  1. It won;t matter if you have a tin man team with no heart that will just roll over in the 1st series like the Jays did in 2020
  2. Maybe 21K - hey the Jays were also on the losing end of Nolan Ryan's last no-hitter as I recall.
  3. In other words, the ball was NOT hit into foul territory but rather to deep center field
  4. Post of the night (some much needed hilarity in this frustrating time for Jays fans)
  5. Kind of surprising to see a guy with an 8.10 ERA sent out in the top of the 9th with a 3 run lead.
  6. I'm surprised nobody followed up on this post. So you don't know what $10M/ 1 WAR represents but you decided to comment anyways. Of course market value is only what somebody is willing to pay. My understanding is that if you can get about 1 WAR for every $8-10 M spent, then you at least got decent value for the contract. Current market is an ever fluctuating thing.
  7. I may have overstated it by saying 'very few'. but there are many cases of players falling off at least temporarily after getting the big contract. Whatever Berrios's issue is, he better figure it out.
  8. The contract is 7 years and $131 M, so that averages $18.7 M per season. If he could average 2 WAR per season, it is break even. But if he keeps going like he is right now, that is going to be a disaster. You have to wonder how much having all that guaranteed money has affected his play. Very few guys would not maybe suffer a loss in their competitive edge after cashing in.
  9. Kind of like this point in the 2015 season !?
  10. I remember watching that fight on Pay Per View with a group of people - that was exciting to see!
  11. Actually 6-4 is .600, which corresponds to a 97 win season. BUT this was against 3 under .500 teams, so 7-3 would have been expected. Then again, 6 of the games were on the road. If Jays can somehow take 2 of 3 this upcoming series, I suppose all will be forgiven.
  12. And he only required 74 pitches. His previous game, he went 5.0 ip with 1 H, 0 BB, and 0 ER. And in that case only 56 pitches. If he keeps this up, Ryu will end up in the BP (assuming he comes back this season).
  13. He may not be great but he did enter today's game with a 3.52 ERA and a 3.40 FIP along with 0.2 fWAR. Admittedly the K/9 and BB/9 numbers are dreadful.
  14. If Pearson can be to the 2022 Jays what Aaron Sanchez was to the 2015 team, then that will give the deadly 1-2 punch out of the BP that the team needs
  15. Not all players are meant to be the next Joey Votto. Some (like Bo Bichette) will ultimately be better with the aggressive Roberto Clemente approach. Can he find a happy medium between the two - probably and if so he will be deadly.
  16. Probably will need to consider picking up one solid starting pitcher for the stretch run and (hopefully) post-season. Right now we have Gausman and Manoah. Berrios is going througfh some issues, but we can assume he will figure it out. Ryu can not be depended on and I don't think Kikuchi can either.
  17. I am not going to throw said individual under the bus, but suffice it to say nobody else stepped in and corrected him. So either they didn't care or agreed with him. whatever. BUT I will say that at the time the Jays signed Ryu, he was coming off a career year and them going after him and landing him was an important step for the current Blue Jays to be considered legit contenders. So I am not that upset with his situation as long as he can be a half ways decent 4th starter on the team. All I can say is THANK GOD for Alec Manoah. What a revelation - thank you West Virginia!
  18. No that was my whole point. Certain people around here were trying to argue he was a true staff ace, when in reality he was more of a mirage than anything.
  19. When I complained about him last season and said I prefer power pitching any day, I was told to shut up and realize that Ryu is a total ace. Yeah an ace like Estrada maybe. Once they figure these soft tossers out, the league eats them for lunch!
  20. Going into today Tapia has -0.5 fWAR in 147 PA worth of playing time. So he needs a bunch more hits like that just to be replacement level. Grichuk has -0.1 fWAR in 154 PA, so the trade is a small downgrade so far.
  21. Too expensive!! He is owed $18M a year through 2023. There should be cheaper options available. If only Nate Pearson could stay in one piece and rise to the occasion.
  22. OK that's fine. BTW: I just looked it up: after 43 games in 1984 the Tigers were 35-8 and the Jays were 28-14 (6.5 GB). Notice the Jays with only 32 decisions in 33 games. A May game against Cleveland was declared a tie apparently......
  23. I don't understand what you are trying to say there! The Jays' offense has been largely piss-poor since their solid 16-10 start to the season. That they are still 3 games above 500 since then is largely attributable to solid starting pitching and just enough BP proficiency to seal some wins. BUT, as I already said, they are in a decent spot with 119 games left to play, so no reason they they can not get this train rolling and be a solid contender for the post-season. With this much time left in the season and the Damn Yankees only 7 games ahead (after a ridiculously hot start to the season), I do not rule out winning the AL East. How far behind the Tigers were the Jays in 1984 (Orwell?) at this point in the season?
  24. As much as it is nice to see the offense get going and pull off a laugher; it is hard for people to just forget the last few weeks of frustration. The good (actually excellent) news is that this team is still above 500 and poised to eventually make a run that can put them in a solid position going forward.
  25. Except one good game does not mean the ship is back on course and not still taking in more water than the bilge pumps can handle. The one thing I would NOT do is bring up a green prospect like Gabriel Moreno and put undue pressure on him to help spark an offense that on paper is one of the best in the league. If they can't do it without him, they sure as hell are not going to do it with him. And as hitting is contagious, so is not hitting. Why expose him to that contagion right now??
