  1. I think we should have a good idea what both players will try to command in the offseason by the trade deadline. If it's not going to be something we'll be interested in then trade them. Both of these players can put teams over the top so I'm sure we would get something really good back even it's for a rental. Worst case, we do get to quality both so it is kind of a win/win position.
  2. Baseball's draft system sucks. That is all lol.
  3. The bigger question should be whether we trade Semien and Ray if we fall back a lot by the trade deadline? Try to get back some good controllable players while going all in this offseason?
  4. Why didn't we use Matz over Kay here? Don't care how this goes but it's just a stupid decision...
  5. 36 pitches for 4 outs so far. Should be out by the 3rd if he keeps this up but I doubt it.
  6. I was just saying that Vladdy is leading off too far from 1st.
  7. Dammit... Springer made good contact there.
  8. I agree with you, I was pushing for us to spend more this offseason to patch up the obvious holes. But I can also see the method to the madness of seeing where all our young guys fit on our team long term. We have tons of salary space and there was a reason why our management didn't use majority of it in one offseason. Semien can easily be brought back or we can go after one of the many other SS's on the market, which was always part of their plan I think. I've compared this team to the 2015 team where we had an amazing run differential but were stuck around .500 because of our pitching and defense. The same drawbacks hold true for this team but the main difference is that our core is just beginning their MLB careers whereas the 2015 team was on their way down. There is no reason for us to make any moves that hurt us long term. I will trust the front office as they've got us to this point thus far.
  9. The average fan will be pissed for sure about this season. Heck, so will all the die hands but the big picture is what our management cares about it seems. They've already put up with as much backlash any management team can get without caving and it has gotten them this far. I doubt they give a crap about us being pissed for another year. They won't speed up their plan as they always said they will use this trade deadline and the upcoming offseason to add to their vision of the final product.
  10. I think our management always viewed this season to be their first competitive year while we wait and see what we have with our young guys. That 50/50 approach might be better for us long term but will hurt us for this season. This is the reason why Bo is playing SS instead of Semien. I fully trust our management will take the kid Gloves off next year where I expect us to make some world series noise.
  11. Extremely! Dude got hurt early in the season because he couldn't catch a damn ball so it hit his bare hand. 3B is definitely not the position for him. What value do you provide defensively if you suck at most positions? His best asset is that he takes walks. He's still a good young player overall but extremely overrated in that i don't consider him part of the core.
  12. Reese is pathetic behind the plate. The amount of strikes he cant frame and all those missed tags at home, he needs to get punted for a bag of pucks.
  13. If I was an ump, I would utilize the Altuve method of having my chest strapped up for balls and strike to be near 100% lol.
  14. I think the part of moving Moreno to 3B like they've been trying recently is exactly for that reason. Keep Kirk at C and use Moreno at 3B, which let's us keep both. Then one of Reese or Jansen can occupy the backup duties while the other gets traded for whatever we can get.
  15. Lol...I thought Bryant would have easily been a better defender than Biggio at 3B but I haven't watched any Cubs games so can't say anything there. It's definitely a position of upgrade we need, more so defensively.
  16. While that's a nice trend, the games before May 5 count just as much as the ones after. I think most are looking for a huge defensive upgrade at 3B just as much as we'd like an offensive upgrade. Bryant's not the answer imo since we are not likely to re-sign him with Semien already being a FA too.
  17. Agree with that. If we thought Kimbrel was worth 16M then we should have just tried to sign Hendricks in the offseason. Cubs would for sure have to pay some of that salary or attach another player with him if they expect to get anything decent in return.
  18. This I did not know... That changes my perception quite a bit. Then it doesn't make sense for the Cubs to trade Bryant for anything less than the value of a compensatory pick. That would only happen for teams likely to re-sign Bryant. With Semien already on board, I don't see it happening.
  19. Ya, I'm in the same boat where I love Biggio as the 9th/10th man in the lineup but I would easily package him to upgrade major areas of need like Closer/3B/top end starter. Now only problem is whether you love Kimbrel/Bryant/Hendricks enough given their contractual statuses. Biggio/Jansen and a lesser prospect seems like a no brainer considering we'd get a compensation pick if Bryant leaves us. It was only because of that pick that I had us giving up a top prospect as well.
  20. I thought Hendricks was a bit younger but he's still under contract for 2 more years at 14M per. He'd become our 3rd best starter assuming Manoah and Stripling fall back a bit. Kimbrel is under contract for another year at 16M while Bryant is a free agent. We would get a compensatory pick if Bryant leaves us at years end, which adds value to his status. We can keep Gurriel/Biggio and include a lesser prospect if that makes more sense. We could solve all our remaining needs with 1 trade but it would suck having Semien and Bryant on the team who might both leave after the season. That's the part I could understand us not being fans of.
  21. Cubs' Hoyer ready to sell after losing streak: 'Life comes at you fast' https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2186574 Let's go get Byrant/Hendricks/Kimbrel in a Marlins type Blockbuster. Bryant and Kimbrel shouldn't cost too much given their contractual status but Hendricks would be the one that would cost a lot. Groshans, Jansen and one of Gurriel/Biggio should be enough for a basis of the deal.
  22. I said these words before the season even started. I saw enough of him last year at 3B to feel he wouldn't be good there. Now that we got enough sample size there, think it's all but a forgone conclusion that 2B is his only full time spot. Still a great super utility guy to have on the team.
  23. Optioned to Mars would have been better.
  24. Why don't shatkins take any blame for giving Montoyo this crap to use? They've been in the organization for like 6 years and have complied this level of pitching thus far. Great job on the hitting/position side though.
