That I 100% agree with, I never wanted Shatkins in the first place, they are the very definition of incompetent. -

I don’t as a retired Fed that not in my DNA, how many accountants do you know who are into that stuff anyway? Our livelihoods depend on being able to interpret the numbers. -
They also know that Kikuchi has been downright horrible in the post season. When he was in Seattle they wouldn’t use him because they didn’t trust him and in his only opportunity with the Jays he was rocked and couldn’t get out of the 2nd inning. Baseball GM’s have long memories. Remember that’s how the Jays got Kikuchi, the Mariners declined the option they had on Kikuchi, making him a free agent. You have to think Dipoto, who years earlier loved Kikuchi calling him the future of the mariners, saw something that soured him enough to cut bait.

Anthopoulos would love that. It broke his heart to leave his beloved Canada but I doubt it would happen because of the corporate people who didn’t support him in the first place. If expansion to Vancouver or Calgary ever happens I would guarantee he’d go there but I have a sneaky suspicion that MLSNE would do everything in their power to prevent such an expansion. We have the whole Markham situation where they torpedoed a 2nd franchise in the greater Toronto area. Shapiro and Atkins are bad, no question, but the corporate bastards in charge are downright EVIL Having lived in Calgary I am certain they could support a Major League team…. -
Pearson isn’t bad, to me his biggest problem is that the expectations for him were through the roof. It’s hard for anyone to live up to that. Bo is suffering from a form of that too. Except in his case it’s his own expectations, by trying to do too much he’s getting more and more frustrated and can’t do anything. Maybe what this team needs is a good psychologist.
-
that may be true, but by the same token pitchers like Kikuchi and Gausman and Bassitt are losing perceived value. It’s 6 of one, a half dozen of the other. All for a draft pick who we won’t see for 5 to 6 years if he makes it. All in all the questions I have all revolve around are if the guys making the decisions (Shatkins) are qualified to be making them? That’s why the trade for Varsho matters, was the perceived Value of Moreno at the time of the actual trade, realized? Most here think it wasn’t. What Moreno does or doesn’t do in the future isn’t material any longer because he’s gone. It’s a sunk cost. But it is valuable as a measure of how the powers that be decision making process, will affect the team going forward. We have 9 years of data to analyze on their draft acumen or lack thereof, I leave it to you to decide whether that’s good or bad.

I’m not sold on framing being the be all end all of a catchers importance If you look at the jays ERA in 2023 which was 3.71 vs their ERA in 2024 which is 4.31, how much of that is on a catcher’s ability to actually call a game? I don’t have the Knowledge necessary to actually determine that, but I’d think common sense would indicate that, that particular factor would far outweigh the perceived value of framing. I grew up watching Jerry Grote with the Mets, he never hit much and didn’t garner headlines, but Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Nolan Ryan, and Gil Hodges all raved about him and his ability to call a game and handle a pitching staff. And while that may be admittedly anecdotal, to me it shaped the way I view catchers. This is not to say Kirk and Jansen are to blame for the reduced effectiveness of the Jays pitching staff this year. I think the pitchers themselves are likely more responsible than the catchers, but game calling is a factor, how much is it, who knows. But if I had to bet my life on one or the other, I’d put my money on game calling.

Varsho is more valuable as a center fielder since the glove is more important on the defensive spectrum as Bill James made clear. Left field is primarily an offensive position and Varsho is poor offensively. Most of his WAR is derived from his defense. Which if you consider the Jays issue right now is a lack of consistency on offense, I still can’t see why everyone sees Varsho as all that valuable. His wRC pegs him as below average, obp at .282 is well below average. To those who see him as a solution remember his salary is about to go up through arbitration, which only exacerbates his deficiencies.
-
neither has Varsho That’s the point. I’m sure the Diamondbacks who made the World Series were very happy with the results. Unlike the Jays who couldn’t even win a single game in the post season and are in last place and in the midst of not even a thought of making the post season this year But as usual you keep defending Shatkins
-
WAR isn’t everything Gurriel is leading Varsho in batting average by 50 points, by RBI by 20% in on base percentage and by the way as usual you’re wrong Gurriel and Moreno have 2.1 War, Varsho only has 1.9 War. I wouldn’t be surprised if Varsho was under .200 by seasons end. He started off hot but he’s trended down since with 30 rbi in april and May but only 5 in June. It seems the league has figured him out. And considering the jays big issue is scoring Varsho isn’t helping much. Keep defending Shatkins.
-
That’s funny because WAR isn’t everything Gurriel is leading in batting average by 50 points, leading in RBI by 20% and that’s not even counting Gabriel Moreno. By the time the season is over, I wouldn’t be surprised if Varsho was under .200. But believe what you want.
-
So says the guy who loved the Gurriel and Moreno for Varsho deal you even went so far as to say it was a steal for the blue jays. How’s that working out for you? Spanky. The only disingenuous one is you.
-
Yeah right says the guy who loved the Gurriel and Moreno for Varsho trade, how’s that working out for you Spanky? Do you still feel the Blue Jays won that trade too? You keep defending Shatkins The longer you do it the dumber you look
-
The jays have history of trading for mediocre relievers Donaldson for Julian Merryweather Stroman for Anthony Kay Almidys Diaz for Trent Thornton Russell Martin for Andrew Sopko Macko still has time but the results so far aren’t promising

Take a closer look Spanky according to bleacher report, the Blue Jays have 2 tier B prospects no other team in the major leagues has less than three since the callup of barger and Martinez and teidemans injury. The Red Sox have 3 tier 2 and 3 tier 1 prospects The Rays have 2 tier 2 and 4 tier 1 prospects The Yankees have 2 tier 2 and 5 tier 1 prospects The Orioles have 2 tier 2 and 5 tier 1 prospects So the blue jays minor league system right now sucks and Shatkins is not the one anyone with half a brain would choose to restock it. And that’s the point. And I’m not the only one here saying it. And as I said the same people who ranked the jays for 2024, say as they prepare for their 2025 ranking that the jays, with their recent callups, would rank 30th. They have no axe to grind, they’re just analyzing the data, and it speaks volumes
-
Head on over to bleacher report .com and see for yourself you idiot. The reference that was made was that since the jays had called up all of their top of the line prospects, those that remain would rank 30 out of 30. With Tiedeman injured, Orelvis Martinez and Addison Barger called up, that’s 3 of the top 5 prospects no longer in the ranks. As they rank the Jays at #23, with them included, Without them, they’d be 30 out of 30. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10115581-mlb-farm-system-rankings-for-the-2024-season It was referenced in MLB blogs audio podcast just last week when they talked about updating their rankings for 2025. Maybe if you took your head out your arse you’d know that. According to them Branden Bariera is the lone tier 2 prospect left. By way of comparison the Red Sox have 3 tier 1 and 3 tier 2 players. Tampa Bay Rays have 4 tier 1 and 2 tier 2 players. The Yankees have 5 tier 1 players and 2 tier 2 players. And the Baltimore Orioles have 5 tier 1 players and 2 tier 2 players. so by any measure the Blue Jays are behind every single AL East team in regard to prospect reinforcements, and you seem to think that doesn’t matter and The Jays are fine with Shapiro and Atkins. Every other team in the majors has at least 3 tier 1 and 2 prospects. The Jays have 1. Well the evidence speaks for itself and it isn’t pretty.

I’m just pointing out facts I’ll admit I’m wrong when the Jays win something. For a team with by far the largest market in all of baseball, (all of Canada) they should be better. Don’t forget the jays were the first team with 4 million in attendance, so there’s no excuse this team shouldn’t be right there with the Dodgers and the Yankees in regard to payroll and scouting. I know you don’t like that they aren’t but they are where they are…..Larry Dolan suckered them into hiring Shatkins so he wouldn’t lose Chris Antoinetti one of the brightest young minds in all of baseball, which led to Alex Anthopoulos leaving the Blue Jays. Once again, those are incontrovertible facts. The jays are where they are for a reason and deservedly so, and you can deny it all you like, but it doesn’t change the facts. And I for one prefer to deal with reality. You can delude yourself into thinking that somehow finding a way to the 3rd wild card changes things, but I won’t. This team needs a total overhaul and Shatkins isn’t qualified to do that No matter what delusional thinking you can dream up Atlanta and Cleveland don’t have near the finances or market share the Blue Jays are blessed with. That’s a fact, you just won’t admit it And here’s another salient fact for you. The jays best player Vlad Guerrero was signed by Alex Anthopoulos, their second best Bo Bichette was signed by Anthopoulos scouts a year later after following him for 2 years. Want proof? https://www.pressreader.com/canada/national-post-national-edition/20190911/281883005035003 In that article it even says Atkins had never even seen Bichette play but Anthopoulos scouting staff were adamant that he be drafted.. most of them were fired by Atkins a year later so he could hire his own people. As others have pointed out the Jays drafting record since is Attrocious. So keep deluding yourself. The facts are indisputably there for all to see

Everything I’ve read says Drew Thorpe is an elite prospect What’s wrong with a 21-3 minor league record and a 2.17 era? Since being called up by the White Sox he’s had 3 starts 2 of which were good and admittedly one stinker. Which is normal for a 23 year old rookie. Compare him to Manoah in his starts this year I take Thorpe 10 times out of 10 because the rookie ISNT a headcase
-
The jays should not be trading anyone until Shatkins are gone, seriously does anybody really believe they are smart enough to acquire real talent at this point? Most of the pitching staff is 30 or older so it’s not like they are going to carry the team into contention. Mediocrity’s in the cards for the Jays if we’re honest about it, 3rd wild card whoop-de-do, this isn’t The Diamondbacks or Rangers who had enough talent on the roster to get hot at the right time and make a run, this is a team that gets swept by the Orioles or Yankees or Guardians even if they get the #1 wild card spot. None of us should want Shatkins having anything to do with any of the trades that will determine the future of this franchise And do you want to know the scariest part? 70% of the 40 man roster is 27 and older and with all of our top prospects on the mlb roster we have by far the worst talent pool currently in the minors. MLB pipeline rated them 30 out of 30 just the other day.
-
The jays killed pro sports daily, and they re well on their way to killing this place too. Shapiro, if he gets his wish and becomes Commissioner, it’s even money that he’ll kill baseball too. The man is a walking plague. but as long as MLS&E sells tickets what do they care. Don’t cue Celine, she’s a national treasure, and she has enough health issues already. For all we know Shapiro might have something to do with that too.

This team is not making any kind of run. For Gods sake they’re putting Vlad back at 3rd, haven’t we already determined the guy can’t play 3rd? Bichette belongs at 2nd, So the front office believes that the entire right side of the infield needs to be the Worst possible combination for the pitching staff that is the strongest part of the team….. could they be any more clueless. I swear they ONLY care about selling tickets and as long they can fool folks to keep doing that, that’s all they really care about. -
to me its the only sensical strategy. most of our starting pitching is on the wrong Side of 30, hell even Ryan Burr our most Promising Minor league arm is Already 30 so who is ownership fooling ? Talent wise this is the equivalent of an old age home. mlb ranks the Jays at 24 saying "Tiedemann’s stuff is arguably the best among Minor League left-handers and Martinez provides tremendous power right now at just 22 years old. But that’s where the true excitement perhaps ends. The rest of the Toronto system relies on hope" this screams total incompetence. they want nothing more than to sell tickets until old age forces them to rebuild and truthfully if they wait much longer what valuable players they do have are losing value. They are playing this fanbase for suckers in my opinion. if not for Warder Franco's indescretions, We'd literally be 5 years behind every team in the AL East
-
Time to move Vlad and Bichette, with Skenes and the orioles, coming up, I can’t see any logic in giving them the mega million contracts they want. Time to cash them in for 3 to 5 top 100 prospects and draft our own Skenes, Rutschman, and Henderson. At least that’s something to build a foundation upon.

been saying that for years, but ownership wont have it, he's got them convinced he's related to the man from Galilee -
im just saying that these are supposedly professionals, they need to be held accountable for their own Physical readiness. Guys like Springer, Guerrero, and Manoah, need to show the same dedication that Bautista, Martin. Donaldson and Tulowitzki demonstrated. If Stanton at the same age as George Springer can resculpt his body to remain an effective complimentary piece at his advanced age, I seriously wonder if Springer, Guerrero, and Manoah are guys we should be building around. at the end of the day its not the coaches or manager who are responsible for a players physical condition, its the players themselves. Bautista, Martin. Donaldson and Tulowitzki werent about excuses. We shouldnt be about them either. look at it this way over their last ten games the White Sox and Tigers are a combined 7-13. We played them and went 3-4. that was the easy part of the schedule and it doesnt bode well....hows this for Alarming, We are closer to the White Sox in the Wild Card Standings than we are to the Royals.
