I really think it had to do with the coaches and organizational approach. That is the only thing I can think of to explain the dramatic difference. I think he got to the Jays, they said this is what we would like you to try to do, and now he is in some messed up purgatory of trying to go back to what worked but using the team approach and he has lost the edge as they said in Top Gun. I truly think he needs a full boot reset back to basics and what worked in AZ and the minors. -

Duval would be the best fit IMO for a RHB. Reason being you are not sacrificing D like some of the other names out there. A few others who would work, Renfroe, Joc, Profar (not as much power) Do not bring back Grichuck.. High K low contact Colorado mirage and his D sucked for his position. -
Cleveland had a 5-2 record against us last year. They destroyed us in the playoffs when we met coming out of a “weak” division. So now with a more balanced schedule, no guarantees we would even win the division. Plus, not interested in going from a premier division with the big matchups and media coverage like NYY and Red Sox to a bunch of teams that make we want to watch 80’s action movie re-runs instead. It would be like going from the SEC to the ACC in college football.

I said in the predictions thread at the beginning of the year that the Jays would play .540 ball. They are actually doing better than my expectations going into the All-Star break at .549. -

I do not see the O's moving Santander... They have enough still in the minors or recent call up to not have to rob a key player from their MLB roster. The O's pitching is good with more help on the way. -

Protips: Ball cap, or a baseball hat.. Not just "cap". Baseball glove, not mitt. Catcher, not Back Catcher. Hot dogs with all the garnishing or sausage /bratwurst if you can find them and beer are the most traditional ball park foods. Learn the words to Ok Blue Jays, so you can sing a long during the 7th inning stretch, where everyone gets up and well, stretches to music Don't cheer like it is a homerun just because a player hits the ball into the air in the outfield... Contain your glee until you know it was a HR or a hit... Don't call it a match, it is a baseball game. Enjoy!!!!

Great video, great kid and I always want to see my Florida boys do well. My only hang up is I really think the Jays needed someone who can get to the show sooner or become a major trade asset sooner... Sooo many variables and soo much time with 17 yr olds..

In his last year with the Jays his 2B D was atrocious. I remember distinctly. I met Aaron Hill personally and hung out with him and was one of if not my favorite players at the time. He also helped me win a Yahoo fantasy league one year with his bat. He was moved off SS due to his s*** D. Then his last year he cost us and the pitchers a lot of big games not making plays he should have at 2b. Not all were errors, but key plays where he should have made the play or better foot work making the pivot for a DP at 2b on the throw to 1b etc. It sucked because I really liked him... But in his last year with the Jays it was rough...

What's not accurate..? He hit well with the Jays first few years, then pretty much sucked after his ALCBPY.. He got moved off SS for D and then cost us a s*** load of games with his s*** D at 2b, a few against the Yankees in big games... He was revitalized in the NL for a bit after the trade, but when he left the Jays he couldn't hit or play D worth a s***.

Wasn't first round/first pick...I should have clarified. Jays don't have a great history using their 1st pick in the draft on SS. Hill one of the better ones for a short time. Austin Martin fell to us and we were able to trade him for Berrios before his value totally tanked. So, good use of the asset. There are a lot of big misses though in the first pick at SS going back to the early 90s.

Yea, he was the best of the lot. Won Silver slugger one year, then moved off SS to 2b and sucked on D and couldn't hit...

The Blue Jays don't have a great history of drafting SS, both high school and College... The last high school SS at 12, got us Bass I don't shop at Target and Oh Pop I'm a Canadian but not a Blue Jay fan.

Might be the case with the Rays taking a college SS one pick before us.... The common theme by the announcers is that due to Covid etc this is a very deep college hitter class. So a guy who might have gone 12 in another draft is now going 20 due to how deep it is this year specifically.

I think if I was a Team like the Mariners stacked with specs, I would be more inclined to draft a high school kid. I think in our current situation with the cupboard somewhat bare, that with a really deep pool of college hitters, it might have been wiser to go with a college kid.....

Your on the road, you need to keep Romano until you have a lead. What if the game goes 13,14 innings? You just used one of three guys left in the pen including Romano. He would also have to pitch next inning if you like it or not. I don’t even know if/think Pearson was available..

The new rule since COVID, is that each team will start with a runner on 2b in extra innings. The runner is determined by who made the last out for each team in the previous inning. So, Kirk made the last out for the Jays in the 9th, he had to go to 2b. 99% of the time you would pinch run for him. The Jays had already used everyone on their bench except Brandon Belt. He is also pretty slow but might also have some injury concerns. In addition, if you PR for Kirk then you lose your DH. Jansen was DHng. So Jansen would go to catcher and we would have to use a pitcher to hit if the game was still tied. In the past we had some pitchers who were more athletic.. However, the most likely option was Kikuchi and he is a SP and was not warmed up... To have an SP with our lack of depth get hurt on the base paths would be a huge hit to the long term team prospects. So, I guess the coaching staff made the decision to stick with Kirk was the least worst option.

We have seen it happen earlier in the season when Kirk was hitting ahead of Varsho. Varhso hit a double and he had to hold up because Kirk was going station to station... Kirk is a like a square bowling ball..
